I do think you are on to something that the defense needed this. I remember back a few years and this was one of the most lifeless units in the NFL. Just everyone standing there with their hands on their hips after every play. Jaire, Z, and Preston really started to reinvigorate the swagger and now it seems like it's contagious throughout the entire unit.
Gotta get in peoples heads. I would say 90% of people get too emotional and cant rise to the occasion to prove someone wrong in the moment. Bunch of bums. Me, I got ice water in the veins.
Dude wtf, you talked trash IN CHESS??

I see. You don't want "consistent pass rush" good. You want "historic overall defense" good. Expectations are based on the 1966 and 1996 Packers defensive performances. Might as well throw in the 1961 defense while we're at it

I know that it's just on paper and in practice right now. I know this post will verge into hyperbole.
But the types of goals and hopes I have for this defense are so fun. When I think about this defense I think:
I mean look, I'm back on my bs with the list function again!
But the types of goals and hopes I have for this defense are so fun. When I think about this defense I think:
- How many quarters can we go without allowing a point? Without allowing a touchdown?
- How many shutouts will we record?
- How many games will the defense/ST score more points than they allow (defensive TDs, FGs) 3 games? 5 games?
I mean look, I'm back on my bs with the list function again!

I am thinking historic. I'm thinking smothering. Maybe the Vikings will score on their opening drive and the first week will be a shootout and all this calms down. But for now? Dominance. I'm ALL in on this side. And I'm not a "defense" guy. I like watching points. I enjoy it more. But this squad? It has me excited.

My concern with the defense is Savage and Stokes. I think teams are going to go at Stokes a ton because he won’t make QBs pay. His coverage is good but it doesn’t mean anything if he can’t make plays on the ball. QBs are going to trust their guys to make plays if he Stokes can’t do a better job getting turnovers. I’m concerned we see a big step back from him. Jaire, Amos, and Douglas will make a QB pay which leaves Stokes as the guy probably getting the most targets.
Savage needs to be a reliable tackler. His tackling is some of the most atrocious I’ve ever seen. To me it looks like he doesn’t want to which really irks me about defensive players. They should be looking to pile up on every tackle. Savage waits until someone else gets them down. He needs to try the Budda Baker/Earl Thomas technique of just going low and getting a leg. He looks tentative to get physical to me. One play against Dalvin Cook 2 years ago I swear he fell down early so he didn’t have to get involved in a tackle.

I am a Stokes fan. I was stunned how well he played last year. Savage on the other hand will never be a tackler or is he even a safety. Best case scenario is that the front seven is as good as advertised. Savage could get some int's as a result. He has no interest in tackling.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑19 Aug 2022 16:46My concern with the defense is Savage and Stokes. I think teams are going to go at Stokes a ton because he won’t make QBs pay. Stokes right now is the same thing to me as Jaire in his rookie year and King before him and Randall before him. I thought he played well for a rookie. As an overall corner it was just an average year I felt. He needs to stack success and take that next step developing his weaknesses. Jaire did that. The other two did not. So far Stokes been getting his cheeks clapped harder than an Onlyfans page in camp. I think he’s a gamer so we will see when the season starts but I expect he is the one who gets picked on.Realist wrote: ↑19 Aug 2022 17:16I am a Stokes fan. Stokes is off the chart compared to Randall and King in their first years. Same goes for the over-hyped Terrell Buckley.Realist wrote: ↑19 Aug 2022 17:37I don't remember King or Randall being as good as Stokes year one with the eye test. people sure get on Savage, kids played in a different D scheme every season, he was solid as a rookie in Capers single high, then exploded his 2nd season in Pettines free lancing schemes, then struggled back in the more basic single high, I'd like to see Barry use more cover 2, and rotate his safety's, now adding Walker that might happen, either way, I think Savage is better then what we saw last year.
If Savage were to ever explode, you would feel it.Yoop wrote: ↑19 Aug 2022 18:16Buckley, boy you sure can bring bad memory's, next it'll be ManderichRingoCStarrQB wrote: ↑19 Aug 2022 17:54Stokes is off the chart compared to Randall and King in their first years. He was really good during that stretch, but hasn’t been consistent and hasn’t ever reached that kind of peak.
