Fascinating outcome that is absolutely best for the 49ers, but surprising Jimmy wanted it. Maybe there was just zero market for his services, which is also a liiiittle surprising, but not mind blowing.
They must've threatened to trade him to the Bears...YoHoChecko wrote: ↑29 Aug 2022 16:36Fascinating outcome that is absolutely best for the 49ers, but surprising Jimmy wanted it. Maybe there was just zero market for his services, which is also a liiiittle surprising, but not mind blowing.
Coulda gotten himself cut and then wait for a starter to get injured somewhere.

Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."
Man, I missed hard on him.

Ugh, I never understood that guy's appeal.
He's a receiving TE with poor blocking, but he was too slow to be a weapon in that regard and not big or tall enough to be unusual or novel. He was just this average guy in every measurable way AND was one dimentional.
There have been 2 guys whose college tape I've looked, and simply could not understand what Gutey and his scouts were seeing: Sterny and Amari.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑29 Aug 2022 16:56Ugh, I never understood that guy's appeal.

Devon Kennard released from AZ. Possible veteran addition at OLB?
Makes a lot of sense if the price is right.packman114 wrote: ↑29 Aug 2022 18:42Devon Kennard released from AZ. Possible veteran addition at OLB?

Dang i remember amari jump off the tv in those big clemson playoff games. I for one thought he was a good mid round pick because I thought he was a gamer. I also thought he was “quicker” than he is though. I knew he was no burner.salmar80 wrote: ↑29 Aug 2022 17:07There have been 2 guys whose college tape I've looked, and simply could not understand what Gutey and his scouts were seeing: Sterny and Amari.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑29 Aug 2022 16:56Ugh, I never understood that guy's appeal.

This is my exact feeling. I spent very limited time looking at him as a draft prospect because I had seen some games, and this was the perspective I garnered from them. I can own that miss; got more into the biography and connections than the play.
Boyle got beat in camp for a backup job by Blough. He sucks. 0 reasons for the Packers to run it back for TBLS.

I liked Stern. He had potential. Good size, decent speed, solid hands. He just never developed. After hearing him speak I think he just couldnt get the mental part. Dude sounded unintelligent. That on top of him being a year removed from JUCO I just dont think he had the pedigree. At the time though I was stationed by A&M so I was a huge fan.salmar80 wrote: ↑29 Aug 2022 17:07There have been 2 guys whose college tape I've looked, and simply could not understand what Gutey and his scouts were seeing: Sterny and Amari.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑29 Aug 2022 16:56Ugh, I never understood that guy's appeal.

Amari is the only player Ive ever talked myself into after we drafted him. My predraft analysis was not good and I should have stuck with it. At the time I was trying to keep a positive mindset but its hard watching the draft every year knowing I would dominate all these bum GMs. Rodgers doesnt have any traits to highlight. He doesnt have elite speed like a Tyler Lockett. He doesnt have the size of a big slot like a Godwin. He doesnt have the hands of his Clemson predecessor who I loved in Renfrow. He isnt even that great a route runner or have that good an understanding of coverages like Welker did. I dont even think hes that good with the ball in his hands. Hes got a lot of work to do to make his way in the league without a trait to rely on. Still too early to cut him.
