Let's Be Honest

Post by Tooothsome Jeb »

Now I have been a fan and lived in Green Bay for 52 years, here's my credential badge. Going to make this quick.

1) The Executive Board has to excuse Mark Murphy from his 2025 retire date, the clock has struck midnight. You have bulldozed enough 60 year-old neighborhoods and lined your pockets thickly in the name of "progress." Or, I meant, "parking."

2) While not on this site in the last few years, I have worked at Austin Straubel Airport in Green Bay and have witnessed inexcusable arrogance and hubris on the part of LaFleur and especially Rodgers, who flung his belt at a TSA agent I know during a boarding check. These two little men need a chop down, they are arrogant, conceited jerk-offs who deserve not a mote of your admiration or respect. Arrest under any other circumstances.

3) The entire franchise is cracked. The inside philosophy of draft-develop is/was a mirage, maybe worked 20 years ago with premier QB play, good OL picks and luck. Gutekunst is so in over his head, 75% of his picks are gone or way overpaid to make them appear good. They aren't. Statistically we are even with Detroit or Atlanta. Jaire Alexander, #1 Savage, LaFleur, Gutekunst, and Murphy all have their pants around their ankles. Alexander can't even mentally attempt a tackle, and he's the highest-paid DB in the league? Jesus, c'mon with it.

4) We're going into Philly next week. I wish Brian Westbrook was around for 41 fantasy points but that's a story for another day.

5) We can't wait until 2025 to honorably discharge Mark Murphy, he needs the exit he deserves. From the infamous "Silos" speech of 2018, the unfortunate remapping of west Green Bay that disrupted the lives of many to line the pockets of the few...it is time to clean the house. And take that PR twerp Aaron Popkey with you, what a pencil-necked goon. Truly the "Face of The Franchise."

6) This is karma. Now, every week, I have money against the Packers and I am ahead. Murphy is a member of the Executive Committee, I believe that is a conflict of interest. It is 7 members around to line their pockets, not produce a quality football squad in case you haven't noticed. Each year we are lapped by future All-Pros on each side of the ball and LaFleur is just a tiny little 5'6" pretty boy who everyone I know can't even stand the voice or sight of anymore, what a freakin' fraudster, belongs in D-3.

1. I don't care if AR is a jerk or weirdo. He needs to play at a high level given the cap space allocated to the position. Aaron Rodgers has to say in January whether he is 100% in for next year. 100% in means showing up to all aspects of camp and training, not just the required parts. We need an answer in January or February. If he can't do that, then GB needs to move on, either by trading Rodgers (if even possible) or designating him a cut at a time that does the least amount of cap damage. We then pivot to Love on an actual rebuild year or draft a QB and have a rebuild. Too many players are taking up enormous parts of the cap yet are old and/or with declining pay.

2. The DEF coordinator position should be looked at.

3. The ST teams coordinator position should be looked at.

Not sure why you would go after Popkey. I know their family and they’re very kind people.

Just out of curiosity, can anyone else recall an NFL team executive announcing his retirement 3 years in advance as Mark Murphy has done with the Packers?

I understand that 70 is the mandatory retirement age in the Packer organization (another curious relic from a bygone era but not really my point).

However, there seems to be a built in assumption that Murphy is ENTITLED to remain the Packers team President unless he decides otherwise.

Generally, I despise entitlement with every fiber of my being as my children well knew growing up as I believe one must earn his or her way every step of the way in life.

I especially despise entitlement in a hyper-competitive environment like the NFL where every team is supposed to be competing with the other 31 teams to win Super Bowls.

The Murphy "I'll be here until I damn well please" retirement announcement smacks of the type of institutional malaise that resulted in Ted Thompson remaining as General Manager well after he was likely medically capable of fulfilling his duties.

Personally, if the Packers have another year like this one in 2023 while paying Rodgers a king's ransom to look pissed off every week and featuring yet another underachieving defense, I don't believe anyone should be entitled to keep their job without a long, hard look at how they have performed their duties.

And if it goes bad again in 2023, the individual who should be least entitled to keep his job no matter what is the man allegedly in charge of the team's overall operations; President Mark Murphy.

Rodgers whether we like it or not is our QB for 23, and just because a bunch of fans think a rebuild is in order, it aint gonna happen till Rodgers departs, this team has talent, specially so on defense, that part simply needs a better plan.

on offense the constant changes with OL set us back, couple that with new and inexperienced receivers just amplifies the problems, will Rodgers come to non mandatory OTA's and practice? who knows, last off season seemed like he was punishing Guty for the situation he allowed to happen with the WR situation, real or imagined, it's not exactly Rodgers fault for sitting starters through out the PS games, thats probably Lafluer being over cautious.

either way, we need to fix whats not working and try again next year, again everyone seems to want to throw in the towel a season sooner then need be.

A SB win seems to be all some fans care about :dunno: :nono:

Co-sign. And yeah, Rodgers being a jerk surprises no one, except I would just move on regardless.

To be blunt, I have no real sympathy for TSA personnel. Take off my belt, yeah because I'm carrying a knife in there. These morons watched too many early oughts War on Terror era movies. My opinion of AR has gone up a little if he did what you said. :aok:

Ted Thompson was a Draft and Develop GM. It worked because of MM's offseason program and philosophy.

Draft and Develop doesn't work in the NFL anymore. Players train on their own. The team has very limited practices and coaches never stick around long enough to capture the returns of working on a player for 3 years.

And based on BG's history, I wouldn't consider his style of GM'ng, "draft and develop".

As far as being honest goes ............... I think we should all honestly Favregettabout the Packers for a couple of months, and while doing so enjoy our upcoming holidays while we wait for the 2023 schedule to be announced to see which team is coming to Green Bay for the home opener. And OBTW the Lambeau Field renovations and the TItletown improvements did nothing to improve fan parking options.

No Ringo ............. Favregetting about the Packers ain't gonna happen. :rotf:

+2 on Rodgers

And yeah, the TSA is a joke. I remember a few years ago it was rumored that they had failed to detect 70%+ of weapons and explosives when the Dept. of Homeland Security tested them. I do have some sympathy for the personnel though, their leaders have no answers, and they have to deal with a lot of pissed off people.

I don't know if this is still the case, but it used to be that the Executive Committee (or was it the full Board of Directors?) could remove the President.

Murphy has done a lot to financially secure the Packers and had done a ton to improve the area outside of Lambeau.

That being said his decision making from a football perspective has been moronic. The way he chose to just be oblivious to TTs mental state towards the end of his tenure to me was a fireable offense in its own.

The decision to choose Gutenkunst to replace him I was OK with. I felt it was worth a shot to stay in the regime that was pretty solid before Teds brain to mush. I liked a lot of what he did early on top cleansing the team of its back contracts, acquiring an additional 1st round pick, and getting us going in a generally in a good direction. After the 1st year I had my concerns. Signing Graham was a bad decision for what he cost. Then the Turner massive overpay happened. Drafting Gary and moving up for Savage were bad moves compared to what I felt was the obvious decision in drafting Simmons and DK. After year 3 it was obvious year one was busting and that draft was an automatic atrocious draft from me. There was no way around it being terrible and it turned out exactly how I imagined it would.

I can’t think Murphy wasn’t on board with the Love pick. He had to have signed off in a move like that I would think. If it were me in the position of Murphy I don’t care how badly Gutey wanted Love I would have fired him on the spot if he attempted to make that pick.

The hiring of LaFleur is statistically a good move. The record looks great. Mean while the cracks are showing. His inability to ever get this team to snap out of ass whoopings. All the losses where they show up with zero energy on the west coast. His personnel decisions during injuries. His play calling during the Love game was truly telling to me just how much Rodgers carries him. He still doesn’t want to run the ball regardless of QB. When things go bad for him he has no answers. On top of that his coaching hires have been atrocious. Drayton and Barry were both failed coordinators in the past or at least part of failed units and LaFleur hired them anyways.

Clean house.

I guess if you consider bulldozing dozens of houses and damn near everything west of the stadium for 3/4 of a mile "progress." On every broadcast, including Thursday, the announcers talk about how it is so charming in the middle of a neighborhood. Murphy obliterated most of the neighborhood.

Plus if you look real close at some the green painted metal structures, fencing, walls, railings, etc. outside of Lambeau Field on Lambeau Field property, you'll notice some of it is starting to rust already. Likely due to improper metal surface preparation before priming and painting. Haven't seen any rusting inside Lambeau Field yet.

As they say sometimes, you can dress him up ............ but you can't take him anywhere. Well, the Packers aren't going anywhere (same shovel different dirt as the 1950s, 1970s and 1980s). Plus these gimmick uniforms...UGH nothing but a Packers Pro Shop / NFL money making operation !!

When I saw what happened I was shocked. A disgrace. Murphy Gute combo has been awful on and off the field Of course making money is the objective. Bummer but understandable.

Buckwheat hasn’t done that bad of job on the football side really.

No doubt in my mind Rodgers real issue was with Murphy. Gute and Lafleur both strike me as “yes men” and I think that’s exactly how Murphy wants it. My problem with Murphy is he himself has no real accountability. I think he wants to be top dog and that includes over the star qb like Rodgers. So that clash of egos has certainly caused drama…

But from a pure football perspective…I mean the past two seasons Murphy fielded a team that COULD have won a Super Bowl. Just needed players and coaches that don’t choke and play tight in big spots. Need some guys that aren’t total pu…nevermind.

But then to take that further…maybe that is Murphy’s fault. Because the types of guys that would be on field alphas that would lead the team to Super Bowl victories are also the kind of guys that aren’t going to say yes to everything buck wheat wants to do…so maybe that’s why there aren’t any of those guys on the team or in the org.

I mean it takes a subservient type of guy to agree to the power structure “chain of command” Murphy put in place anyways…but overall…strictly on the football side…he’s gotten the team close enough. The guys under him should have carried the torch across the finish line

Lupe ........... I'm still waiting for Gutey to pull off a half dozen Reggie White-like (and Sean Jones, Santana Dotson, Eugene Robinson, Andre Risen, Frank Winters, Bruce Wilkerson, Keith Jackson) type player acquisitions. Dark era Packers Head Coaches (Starr, Gregg, Infante) were provided few blockbuster acquisitions as well (who besides Ted Hendricks and John Jefferson, and I suppose Jan Stenerud?), and look how those tenures performed. LaCoach is in a rotten situation regardless of his coaching acumen or quality of assistance coaching staff.

Bob Harlan was smart enough to bring in Ron Wolf and subsequently Ted Thompson, before Mark Murphy took over as President/CEO beginning in the 2008 season.
