Don't look now but ESPN actually featured an interesting and informative conversation on one of their otherwise insufferable NFL roundtable shows. The run game, in particular the power and counter run game, is back with a vengeance. A discussion on why that is:

interesting, and we've seen the evolution on both sides of the ball with us, no more Gilbert Browns, instead we have the stream lined Clark, and now Wyatt, pass rush ability first and formost, and a lber like Campbell and Walkers both with excellent coverage ability, seems we are exactly what that round table was talking about.

Offenses are combating defenses built to stop the pass, smaller DL men, coverage type lbers, so between the tackles runs are on the rise, makes sense to me, and we see that, often what looks to be a outside stretch run turns into a B gap run (power), when that works a defense has to play 8 man box, that opens up the mid tier passing or even deeper.

I still think teams want to pass, being able to consistently string together long drives running the ball in this era of officials calling so many penalty's is really difficult, success passing eliminates the 8 man box, the goal in my opinion is to force a defense to continually have to adjust to counter between both, the pass and the run

thanks APB, nice to hear this stuff spelled out, explains very well what we are seeing. :aok:

From what I've heard from people who know football better than me, the pendulum tends to swing back and forth every few decades. It has definitely felt for the past couple decades that the run was making a comeback, especially with Jonathan Taylor pushing for MVP last year.

QB will always be a position with outsized importance, but when the pendulum swings back to the run, not "worth their weight in gold"-important. Get a Jalen Hurts in Round 2 and you're good.

Good thing playoff seedings are done by won-loss records.

Another nationally televised game where Cousins was a no-show.

How are those playoff games broadcast again...?

Everyone including Vegas knows what the Vikings are. Hating on them personally doesn't make me feel better about our situation. I don't see the point. They are a playoff team.

I would say it was more of the o-line that was a no-show.

Broncos just cut loose Melvin Gordon. What once was a very promising career for the ex-Badger…

Gordon has been in the league for 8 years. He's 29 years old. That's pretty good career longevity for an NFL RB.

No one gave the 2011 Giants a chance. They were -6 at the end of the year and 9-7. If you don't make the playoffs, you have zero chance to win the big game. The only stat that matters in the NFL is the win-loss column.

And no, I don't expect them to make it to the Super Bowl. But, a Buffalo/MN game would be something.

Once ur LT went down it was lights out. You also can't deny that Cousins wets his pants in primetime.

When your QB is pressured on 66% of his pass attempts, any QB would.

She has learned well from Tom Grossi, and evolved... Good stuff.
