Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."
That surfaced a few weeks ago. Very encouraging not only that he's looking good, but that his teammates believe in him. As a QB especially, that is critical.

Exactly. It is obvious that the team has given up on Rodgers. They know he hit the wall and is not very good any more. Give them some hope and respect and play Love. Otherwise Adams won't be the only FA to turn down more money from the Packers in order to get off a sinking ship.

I remember going through the lists of teams who would want to trade for him in the offseason. Denver, Tennessee, Steelers, Raiders, Commanders, Bucs (when Brady had retired).
Well kind of a lot has changed since then. One team that stood out to me way more than others I really didn't consider a few months ago was the Patriots. Mac Jones didn't look bad as a rookie, believe he's already been benched this year. Belichick only has maybe a handful of years left. That could just make a ton of sense. Although I think the Patriots have a worse OL, WR and RB's than the Packers, but that is neither here nor there.
Honestly the Jets? Wouldn't that be hilarious. Benching Wilson, I think they think they have a really competitive team outside of QB right now. By all accounts, Aaron has a good relationship with Matt, would imagine playing for his OC brother would be an easy transition.
That would be such a stacked division if they add Aaron.
Maybe the Colts? Although I am thinking they don't have a good enough team to compete over the next two years. And if I was Aaron, I'd stay away from Irsay.
Giants or Commanders, both pretty good talent, both underwhelming or garbage QB's. I'd stay away from whatever garbage is running Washington, but I'm sure they'd be interested. NY might be appealing to me if I'm Aaron.
Buccaneers again, although I think they are a popping bubble with no $$, but that'd be kind of funny for Aaron to go play in his least successful stadium.
Seattle flush with picks and a surprisingly competitive roster, Carroll oldest coach in the NFL, also maybe only has a handful of year left, might be willing to make a quick 2 year run into the sunset. Might be the one destination I don't think I could root for Aaron at all if he goes there.
Options definitely there.
Packers would prefer an AFC team I'm sure, and I'm thinking in order of most likely destination, mutual interest between tradee, trader and traded
Patriots
Jets
Giants
Cali kid gunna have to go NE.

I hate to say it, but there is no way to slam the door on San Francisco anymore, either. I think that has always been his #1 preferred destination. Vegas with Adams? I could see that, too.BF004 wrote: ↑29 Nov 2022 14:36I remember going through the lists of teams who would want to trade for him in the offseason. I'd like to think some team can offer us more than SF could, I don't think they could offer a 2023 pick.NCF wrote: ↑29 Nov 2022 14:40I hate to say it, but there is no way to slam the door on San Francisco anymore, either. And I think the Raiders just extended Carr, no? Still wouldn't mean definitely no, but I don't think he's been the problem out there. Maybe not the solution either but, eh.
Atlanta was a potential landing-spot that popped into my head the other day.

Yeah, I thought about them. Just don’t think they are good enough for the combination of them to push in those kind of chips and Aaron to want to go there, although that division sans Brady couldn’t be more wide open.

I was reading intently until you advocated cutting Aaron after June 1. That could be a person’s pref. But it isn’t going to happen. He’s still a productive player, even if he isn’t what he used to be. And to carry that dead cap with zero players to account for it just isn’t tenable.Ghost_Lombardi wrote: ↑28 Nov 2022 20:12It isn't the decision of the injured player to decide if he plays or not. If Rodgers needs surgery (the thumb), do it now. It protects from setbacks and second surgeries. As we learned with Bak, no surgery is routine.
My choice would be to sit Rodgers and cut him post June 1. That said, I expect him back in 2023-2024, and if so I want him at 100%.
Watson is enormously talented. Think what he could do with a full training camp and the QB building some chemistry with him.

I don’t know what markers you use to say it is “obvious” the team gave up on Rodgers. I’d be interested in knowing what those “obvious” signs are.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑29 Nov 2022 14:11Exactly. That said, no matter how able a starting QB is, sometimes a team just needs to get the next guy in there to change things up. The change alone can “spark” a team that sorely needs one. And I sorta feel like that’s where the Pack is with Aaron. I don’t think the team has given up on him. But I do think they are less motivated for a number of reasons. With QB2 in there, they realize they need to be more motivated during the learning curve. And we might be surprised how that works out.
A few years ago, Curt Warner was benched so that a young and upcoming QB (Eli Manning) could start. Maybe insisted that Manning wasn’t as good as Warner. But he was the future for the Giants. They made a point to force the transition. And they struggled through it for a while too. But that got Manning what he needed to take that next step.

I think those two are literally the only options. Rodgers would likely nix any other choice.NCF wrote: ↑29 Nov 2022 14:40I hate to say it, but there is no way to slam the door on San Francisco anymore, either. Is SanFran going to wash its hands of Trey Lance that quickly?
He didn't look good in his most recent play, but I have to think they give him a season to show what he can do. It may not be 2023, but 2024 at the latest, and Rodgers will likely want to play a lot longer than that.

Has the door completely closed on Denver? I know they just committed a ton of money to Russell Wilson but there’s already talk of cutting ties with him because he’s been terrible. If they find a trade partner for him, what’s to stop them from looking toward Rodgers to pair with Hackett?BF004 wrote: ↑29 Nov 2022 14:36I remember going through the lists of teams who would want to trade for him in the offseason. Yeah, it’s a long shot but I’m not convinced that door is closed.
They’d can Hackett before they completely gave up on Russ just because of the contract they gave him when he came to town. That contract is more hand cuffing than the Rodgers deal.

Ooof. You’re right. Just looked it up - if they trade Wilson next year, they take on $107m dead cap hit.
And we thought the Gute deal to Rodgers was bad.

I’ll just say this. For a team that makes moves based on incompetence so slowly I doubt they cut ties with Rodgers based on one above average season where the entire team around him, except Jones, is playing like absolute dog &%$@.
Cancelled by the forum elites.
I agree, Rodgers seems to get the majority of the blame, when for about 8 games we averaged about 5 dropped passes and poorly run routes each game, musical chairs with the OL just as long, the offense finally getting better, OL's blocking better, Watson is showing why he is worth his draft slot, Jones and Dillon are doing there part, and Love has vastly improved over prior play, hope that continues.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑29 Nov 2022 21:06I’ll just say this. Still Rodgers said a year ago he wants to retire a Packer, and while he did have a down year, much of it was brought about not of his making, and aggravated with the thumb, I think his decision will be how Love plays the rest of the season, Rodgers could retire unless he has to pay back money???? as someone said, he's complicated, who knows what he'll do.
the team will want to portray that the decision about the future at QB is Rodgers to make, thats how it was handled with Favre, and I don't expect that to be different with Rodgers, Packer loyalty to it's greatest players imo has always come first, we don't shove HOF bound QB's out the door, and like Favre I don't see Aaron just turning over the reins to Love, this promises to keep us guessing for long after this season is over, it's complicated
I'm curious as to what gives you the impression the team has given up on Rodgers.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑29 Nov 2022 14:11Exactly. It is obvious that the team has given up on Rodgers. Nice summary article.
