2023 Badgers Football

Cheesy topics (like the Cheese Curds thread) go here. Topics that aren't Packer related will be moved here as well.

Mmmm.... cheese.

Must have offered a ton of money. Surprising move. Rhule to Nebraska and now this. What happens to Leonhard?

Packers DC?

Fickell’s a defensive guy, I’d have a hard time seeing Leonhard returning, would kind of be a step down from what he’s been doing if isn’t running the D.

Leonhard kind of forced himself out with a terrible defensive game plan on Saturday.

Leonhard did a phenomenal job year after year with 3 star talent. I have no idea if he is head coach material. I doubt he gets a pro DC job yet but something doesn't seem right here. Let's see what happens.

I would think Leonard would be a little burned by this, we’ll see. Good hide, Bucky needs work.

13th out of 14 Big 10 teams in recruiting this year. Cryst set our program back years.

They obviously had discussions prior to Saturday/Sunday on what to do going forward. The above, just a microcosm of what got Jim Leonhard passed over. The way we allowed a true Freshman to dissect the defense and it being to Minnesota to boot... :mob:

I know nothing of Fickell. Hopefully he can recruit and actually employ a recruiting department.

Cincinnati had more players drafted last year then Alabama. It's a great hire. He had better opportunities. Recruiting ties to Ohio is a homerun. Interested to find out why he picked Madison. Big ten west is there for the taking being so weak. Stepping stone job IMO. Happy nonetheless.

Yeah, he will try to move on after 3-5 years to a bigger program. Maybe something in the SEC or even Pac-12 for more money. Good short-term hire to get things back on track.

One would think JL would have other options for a lateral move staying as a DC. Why would he stay with the Badgers after being passed over for hc?

Loyalty all I can think of. Guy’s made enough for his kids and his kids kids to be taken care of, working his dream job at dream location. Or maybe not, lol.

And like I said, this would be a bit of a step down too, being DC for a defensive HC vs being the guy for Chryst.

Leonhard is very much a Wisconsin guy. That, and he's humble.

Maybe the things that are important to many of us aren't so important to him when it comes to his professional life. Money certainly isn't an issue. He's also made it clear his family's stability is very important to him. If he's satisfied with being a mere DC for the program that happens to be where he's made his home, I can see where he'd stay on.

He should move 130 miles NE. There was mutual interest less than two years ago.

JL is at a crossroads. He is young and if he stays DC at UW after being passed over for the HC position he is committing career suicide. He will set himself back 6-7 years in his career trajectory. It is also a possibility his trajectory goes downward and he gets fired in two or three years as a scapegoat for the new coach and has to take a step down to a MAC program or something to even be a DC.

...or just retire because he's got a buttload of money already and he's only doing this because he likes it and "career trajectory" is something he gives two &%$@ about.

Actually Fickell was head coach for a year at OSU and then accepted an assistant job under Meyer when he replaced him. He turned that into a head coaching job at Cinci with obvious success. Far from career suicide.

He was only interim coach though when Tressell was suspended. But either way, perfect example of the model for Leonhard.
