Under yoop's theory, all we need to do is just say "we coulda had him" as long as they were selected within 9 - 12 selections of our actual draft slot.

Doea that mean it hurts whenever any player not on the Packers does well?

OMG here we go with believing anything a GM says balloony again Jefferson went what 4 picks in front of us???? Gute simply wouldn't pay the asking price to trade up, there is always a trade partner if the price is right, Jefferson could have played a key roll in that playoff game we lost, he might have been our only receiver to not drop a key pass in that loss, you guys defend some of the worst decisions the team makes
just go watch what the Niners are doing to the Bucs defense, the Bucs just can't cope with McCaffery, Samual, Ayuaik, Kittle, imagine that, having more offensive impact players then a good defense can corral.

Gosh, Denver scores TWO touchdowns in final minutes of first half to avoid the boo birds. See what they do in second half. Part of me LOVES if the Broncs can manage a comeback today. It won’t happen. But I’d really love to see it.

BALLOONY???
When he was taken, he went 8 picks ahead of us. Three picks later, we moved up four picks to take Love. It's not like we sat on our hands while he was just four picks away; we were way behind where we needed to be from the get-go, and it only looks like he was within reach because we actually did move.Jefferson went what 4 picks in front of us????

Now, 21 unanswered points. They hold KC on three and out, then do their own three and out.Scott4Pack wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 17:00Gosh, Denver scores TWO touchdowns in final minutes of first half to avoid the boo birds. At least this transitioned from a blowout to an interesting game. But their D will still need to make something happen.

Labrev you can explain this however you like, the point is Guty moves up even more if he's committed to a player (Savage) , he didn't commit to Jefferson or any of the other receivers in that top 6 or 7 because he was intent on drafting a QB, I've been convinced of that ever since it happened, even more so now.Labrev wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 17:09BALLOONY???

The Niners probably wont be interested in Rodgers for next season, this Purdy has the Niners offense clicking, 28 zipe over Brady and the Bucs
just like that McCaffery's goes to the house again, 34 to zipe Niners,
The year we took Savage, we were picking 12th in each round. The year Jefferson went, we were picking 30th(!) in each round. Our draft picks were *significantly* less potent as trade ammo based on how late we were picking in each round. Our 2nd-round pick was basically a 3rd-round pick, our 3rd was basically a 4th, etc. Savage was also taken in part from trade ammo we had gotten the year before when the Saints gave us a future pick to trade up with us.Yoop wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 17:20Labrev you can explain this however you like, the point is Guty moves up even more if he's committed to a player (Savage) , he didn't commit to Jefferson or any of the other receivers in that top 6 or 7 because he was intent on drafting a QB, I've been convinced of that ever since it happened, even more so now.Labrev wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 17:09BALLOONY???

Savage was a consensus top S in the draft class the year we moved up for him and our need for a starter was urgent. Jefferson was just one of several WRs who were Round 1-caliber, and there was still another remaining after he was taken (Ayuik) and the need for WR was not urgent, just some help around Adams.
If you harped on us not taking Ayuik, that would actually be somewhat understandable, seeing as it only took a 4th to get 1 pick away from taking him, and unlike Jefferson, he really was the last shot at getting one of the top WRs. Complaining about us not getting Jefferson though is just silly.

After this week, if I had to pick 2 teams in the SB, it would be the Bills and Niners. He turns 35 in Feb., has a Super Bowl, has all the money he'd ever need, has four young daughters and a wife who survived cancer, and his body has taken a beating over the course of his career. I wouldn't be surprised to see him call it a career.

34 - 28 now.
I tell ya, that OLine for Denver is pathetic. But that last drive, they overcame about 30 yards of penalties to score their fourth TD of the day.
Wilson tried rushing for a TD but got hurt. Maybe a concussion. Maybe nothing. But Ripien came in to throw the third TD to Jeudy today.

Looks like the Panthers are going to be Hawks. The NFC tightened up. The Seahawks will need to get a big win now to have postseason hopes.
most everyone in this forum was sold on Jefferson as possibly the best of the top 5, and to say WR was not a need position is whats silly, we had Adams and the next best receiver was our RB, still we had 7 dropped passes in that PO game, 2 for TD's yet you don't think we needed better WR's.Labrev wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 17:35The year we took Savage, we were picking 12th in each round. this is the same ol song and dance I've heard for 6 years, we don't need receivers, how many PO games have we lost? the lack of offensive fire power is conveniently blamed on some other facet failing or on Rodgers, the best way to over come mistakes is to score more points, we wasted what will be the last years of one of the best QB's ever because Ted and Guty wouldn't provide or replace guys like youthful Nelson and Cobb, denying that is whats silly.
I didn't say WR was not a need; I said the need at WR was not comparable to the need for S when we took Savage. We were in way worse shape at S than WR, by an order of magnitude: Burnett left and Haha busted out. We had nothing. At WR we at least had an elite starter and a few lottery-ticket second-year guys.

We had a big free agent signing in Amos.Labrev wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 21:10I didn't say WR was not a need; I said the need at WR was not comparable to the need for S when we took Savage. Not just missing Jefferson but skipping on DK aswell.
The defense has given up 64 points in the last 6 games. That's just over 10 points per game. That is almost unbeatable if they can keep it up. Can you imagine your offense having to only score 2 TD's to win?Scott4Pack wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 17:53I do think the Niners have what it takes to slow down Philly.
Missing on Jefferson? We had no chance to draft him in 2020. He went #22 to MN and we had to move up from #30 to get to #26 (and Love) via trades.bud fox wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 22:08We had a big free agent signing in Amos.Labrev wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 21:10I didn't say WR was not a need; I said the need at WR was not comparable to the need for S when we took Savage. Given that Amos signed prior to the 2019 draft, I'd say it is at least debatable to proclaim that the Packers were in way worse shape at Safety than WR heading into the 2019 draft given that Davante was the only sure thing at WR on the roster prior to that draft.Labrev wrote: ↑11 Dec 2022 21:10I didn't say WR was not a need; I said the need at WR was not comparable to the need for S when we took Savage. And you could have just as easily have gotten a a lottery-ticket safety out of the 2019 draft, someone like say Amani Hooker or Chauncey Gardner-Johnson to pair with Amos just like you went into that season with lottery-tickets at WR in 2018 picks J'Mon Moore, MVS, and ESB.
What is not debatable is that the decision to trade up and select Darnell Savage has turned out badly for the Packers not only because Savage has not come close to living up to his draft status as a Safety but because the Packers could have stood pat at pick 30 and drafted WRs DK Metcalf, Deebo Samuel, or AJ Brown and kept the two 4th round picks they traded away to pick Savage.
With all the animated debate surrounding the Rashan Gary round 1 pick in 2019, the trade up for Darnell Savage has really flown under the radar when it comes to its impact on the roster.
