What Purdy might lack in arm strength, he seems to make up for it in commitment. He isn’t reluctant to make a decision of where to go with the ball and commit his whole body to that. Where so many rookies pause to think through things, he already seems to work with what he can work with and go with it. Some guys never learn that.

I have been critical of Shanahan in the past (relative to his hype, anyway) but I gotta say he's done a terrific job tailoring his offense to the limitations of his rookie signal caller. He has leaned on his schematically superior run game and designed passing plays that often result in Purdy's primary read as an open target. Yeah, it doesn't hurt having all that offensive talent surrounding Purdy, too, but Shanahan has made it easy for the young QB and, to his credit, the young QB has performed well.

what do you think Lafleur has attempted to do here? same thing, the difference is Purdy's supporting cast is bigger, he has more skill position players, he gets to show different pre set looks, he has more players capable of doing jet sweeps, he's got a TE that a DC has to design schemes to stop, not to take anything away from Purdy, but all that stuff makes it easier for any QB to succeed. we tend to blame our QB or even Lafleur, but it's not a level playing field when ya subtract some of there talent

look what happened when we used Watson when he was finally capable with motion, sweeps, and end arounds, doesn't matter what the schemes are, they all require talent to do well

no, because I feel Lafleur has been short changed around here, and he brought here just about everything Shanahan does in his offensive schemes, the difference has been the talent. and with all 3 QB's they've used this season Shanahan didn't have to change much from one to another

Brock Purdy might have a different skill set than the 49ers quarterbacks before him, but the rookie explained why not much has to change in Kyle Shanahan’s system

Everyone plays the game a little differently,” Purdy said on Wednesday. “But at the core, we are running the same offense with Kyle — his mindset in terms of the progressions, where we need to be, and where the ball needs to go.”

Since taking over the helm for Jimmy Garoppolo, who suffered a fracture in his foot in Week 13, Purdy has completed 58 of his 84 attempts for 612 yards, six touchdowns and one interception in three contests.


not say Shanahan doesn't belong in the COY vote off, he does, he's a great coach, but so is Lafleur, we just need to increase the size of his tool box.

He is very fortunate to be surrounded by that roster of players. It will be interesting to see how he fares this week against Philly.
