And goodness, Saints are like $60M over the cap right now. If they add Carr, he's gotta have like an absolute minimum cap hit this year. They gunna have to build like 50-70M cap hits on the back end. They have really driven that franchise into the ground. Everyone's contracts already kicked down the road, and with void years. Frankly not even sure how they can cut $60M from the cap with all the void years they added. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/new-orleans-saints/cap/ Absolutely no clue how they could fit mid to upper tier QB contract into that mess.NCF wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 08:28The more likely scenario is the trade would be agreed by Tuesday and then Carr would agree to delay the deadline in his current contract until after the new league year. Neither NO nor LV benefit by LV being the middle man in any new contract.

Saints trading for Carr would be almost best case scenario for the Packers, should we look to trade a QB.
Saints are kind of a team that doesn't 'need' a QB, with Jameis and potentially Dalton back. But them trading for a QB will not add potential QB's to the FA lot. At best those two guys might be added to a team drafting a rookie QB.
So this move basically just creates a QB opening (Las Vegas), doesn't add any eligible starters to the musical chairs game. And then gives Las Vegas some additional draft capital to potentially get someone else.

They have $%@# their cap up so bad it is ridiculous. The only players they can cut and save more than $2 million in 2023 is Jameis Winston, Will Lutz, Carl Granderson, and James Hurst for about $4.5 million each for Hurst, Granderson, and Winston and $3.7 for Lutz. The majority of their top paid players would see a cap hit to cut them... The void years on all their contracts in unreal.BF004 wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 09:09And goodness, Saints are like $60M over the cap right now. It's sorta like a business, if ya don't take inventory, how do you know what needs fixing, ya have to a lot time for personal inspection in the same way, self awareness is at the heart of every recovery program there isAcrobat wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 08:26Yeah I know everyone loves to make fun of him, but ultimately, the guy is very focused on his mental health, and in my opinion, that's great. Too much stigma around mental health but more people should focus on theirs and the solution isn't always "counseling". Lots of great alternative methods so kudos to him.German_Panzer wrote: ↑07 Feb 2023 22:40I can somehow understand the point of Rodgers. Sometimes in my life I’d do very long hikes to get my head clear, or some trips far away to get a new perspective. But usually those life-important decisions should come to you naturally over time, not forced into a tight window with a lot of hokus-pokus. It just looks from a distance as if #12 is not playing for the sake of winning & competing anymore but just to build his legacy and to remain significant.
I‘d still like to see him to ride off as a Packer for good, so I‘d opt to keep him, for pure sentimental reasons but since this is the first time I do not think he is good enough anymore to lead us to the promised land I‘d be not in tears either if we trade him to get some gem(s).
I'm not a fan of Rodgers' stance on some issues, especially his association with Rogan. But that's for another forum that I don't want to get into.
He's being flamboyant about it though, Loves the media attention, his comments fuel that, every time he opens his mouth his comments spark comments from every news source for days after, and we all listen, so who's the fool here, maybe we all should hibernate with mind altering inducement drugs till whenever we here something from a dependable source

Yet another example of why Twitter/Social media/the interwebz is ruining sports. In the old days you had to wonder about what these guys did in their free time, and that was part of the mystique that made them larger than life. Nowadays all the dirty laundry is out there to see.

Yes I get that. Just different now with all of the reTweets and reposts. In prior years maybe a player describes something like that in a radio interview and the people who heard it, heard it. But if you weren't listening, you missed it. Nowadays anything he says is quoted, retweeted, going viral on the internet. No wonder he wants to hold up in a dark cabin for 96 hours!Pckfn23 wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 09:40He is putting it out there...Captain_Ben wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 09:38Yet another example of why Twitter/Social media/the interwebz is ruining sports. I get what you are saying, but I am pretty sure that if Lynn Dickey said he was going to do psychedelic drugs or stay in a completely dark room for 4 days to contemplate his future, the papers would have been all over that back in the day.Captain_Ben wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 09:49Yes I get that. I heard it's now in that +300 range but nonetheless, Vegas has both the Jets and Raiders as better odds for landing spots for Rodgers than GB.
I also believe Rodgers made a comment yesterday about how Vegas usually gets these things right or something to that effect.
That's a cryptic message. "Vegas usually gets things right"?????????????????????????????????????go pak go wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 11:04I heard it's now in that +300 range but nonetheless, Vegas has both the Jets and Raiders as better odds for landing spots for Rodgers than GB.

Cancelled by the forum elites.
It will be interesting to see how Mahomes does now that he's entering "recognize cap expense" years of his contract.NCF wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 20:10BF004 wrote: ↑08 Feb 2023 09:09And goodness, Saints are like $60M over the cap right now. So, assuming AR goes to Vegas, the Packers probably get their choice of:
and
Or for that matter a pass rusher or a DT.
This is Love's 4th year, unless they pick up the 5th year option which costs $19 Mil +. Love is gone after this coming season and all they might get is a comp pick. But they don't have $19 mil in cap room so they can't exercise that option.
Or, the Packers can trade Love. And thanks to not playing Love when Rodgers was playing like crap with a broken hand, they will be lucky to get a mid 2nd round pick.

Doesn't that cap hit happen next year?TheSkeptic wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023 08:05This is Love's 4th year, unless they pick up the 5th year option which costs $19 Mil +. If Rodgers goes to Vegas, the Packers will absolutely be able to keep Love for his career if they want to. Money won't be the barrier for Packers and Love. Love's performance will be the barrier for the Packers and Love.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023 08:05So, assuming AR goes to Vegas, the Packers probably get their choice of:

$20 Million cap hit for a quality QB is pennies in today's NFL.

Correct, if Rodgers is gone it is easy to pay Love. But they might be better off signing him to a multi-year contract.go pak go wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023 10:00If Rodgers goes to Vegas, the Packers will absolutely be able to keep Love for his career if they want to. What they can't do is to pay both Rodgers and Love after this coming season

Love only due 2.3M this year. I'm guessing that would ultimately go up for playing time incentives? I am not sure how to ball park it.
For simple math, lets say it might be $8M.
HE should get $20M in 2024 under 5th year option. Franchise tag for 2023 is $32, maybe guess that goes up to $36M next year.
Thus for the Packers to control Jordan for 3 years, it would cost them $63M (8+20+36).
Jordan might not like that current arrangement, nothing really now, no guarantee of any offer for 2025, he's essentually just due his $28M for 2 years.
Therefore he might jump on an offer that basically replaces his old contract, something around 3 years $60 million. Packers can offer at minumum a $28M signing bonus, that's what we owe him anyway.
Jordan gets some money today, he's probably happier, his agent is happier We can still probably push the cap hits to mirror what is currently in pace, somewhat, could maybe still cut him after two years and not be too much more on the hook that what we would be now.
Seems like a nice strategy for both sides, Packers get honestly a very cheap QB contract for 3 years. Could probably extend him in 2025 after he wins MVP and the Super Bowl to bring down his 2025 cap hit.
