From Lambeau to Lombardi, Holmgren, McCarthy and LaFleur and from Starr to Favre, Rodgers and now Jordan Love we’re talking Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers football. This Packers Forum is the place to talk NFL football and everything Packers. So, pull up a keyboard, make yourself at home and let’s talk some Packers football.
And no combine numbers on Doubs, but he seems to have no trouble getting vertical himself.
FWIW, Doubs held a workout a few days before the draft after missing combine and Pro Day with an injury, and sources on the scene reported him between 4.48 and 4.52. I did a lot of digging for that info a little while back, so I'm sharing it.
I also like the idea of more speed on offense, but Hyatt's draft stock is too high for his skillset. He's a one-trick pony who would be a great 3rd round pick but that Tennessee offense and Tillman's injury catapulted him into a top 40 pick that I just don't love the value on.
You guys keep calling him unique in terms of speed, but he... isn't? Other guys are that fast. I think the amount that Tennessee schemed him in ways that are not going to be replicated in volume in the NFL are really distorting the imagery on him. Take Trey Palmer or Tyler Scott a couple rounds later. Teach Andrei Iosivas how to play NFL football with a 4th or 5th round pick.
I initially loved the idea of a guy with Hyatt's speed in the slot next with Watson at one of the boundary receiver positions. It would be hell to defend that speed.
Then I saw Hyatt's height and weight and lost interest.
Sorry, but to play WR or CB in Green Bay, you can't be short or skinny. Hyatt may not be too short for here, but he's too skinny. Ron Wolf made that point years ago and I largely agree with it.

Before drafting Hyatt, I'd have to consult our strength staff to see what they think they could squeeze outta that frame.
I don't like Hyatt's prospects against NFL corners. Dude got schemed wide open a LOT. I mean, Davante was too, but Davante could win without it.
I’ve lost interest in Hyatt. He talked so confidently that 4.29 was his goal leading up to the combine. I thought at worst he would run a 4.35. A 4.40 isn’t even that impressive anymore. Especially at that weight. not a first rounder to me.

How is Hyatt consensus ranked this high?
I watched 4 game tapes. He's constantly getting schemed open in a big way and/or defenders make big blunders. So few routes won when he has to earn it. Has GREAT hands and can track deep balls. I'll give him that, but... How is he gonna do when not schemed wide open?
He's no gazelle. Not quick enough for a light guy to not get beaten up by NFL defenders. No muscle. The deep speed isn't spectacular.
Last time I was so repulsed by a prospect's tape was with Amari Rodgers...
I went back and looked at seven games in the 2021 and 2022 season.
Wow.
Every. Single. Snap. Van Ness. Brings. It."
Love him to, and we need pass rush help, just don't know if he'll last till we pick, being able to move two players inside or out ( Gary being the other) would be huge for our pass rush ability

I think you can play Van Ness in a couple of spots, 4i, 5-tech and 7,9 are all within his arsenal. Maybe 3 tech too
One of the things missing after Lowry departed is a 5-tech with some length and Van Ness seems to fit that bill. He needs refinement, but the power, drive and the motor are already there. Should be able to snag him with the Jets pick # 13
Am I the only one who would prefer Nolan Smith to LVN as our early edge of choice?
He is an athletic freak with the highest football character imaginable. Just a culture changer and enforcer, a ready made run defender, an athletic marvel, and further along in his pass rush development than LVN.
I understand the lack of ideal size, but we already have 3 very large edge rushers. And the tradeoff doesn't come at the expense of run D

Nope, I'm on board with Smith.
He reminds me of Von Miller albeit not quite on his tier.
I like Nolan Smith if we can make good use of that enticing skill-set. I have seen Hasson Reddick comps. I definitely want guys like that on my team, but we have to run the correct scheme to reap the reward, like Philly did as opposed to Zona.
On that note, I am curious if we still prefer those bigger bodies at EDGE as we seemed to while Pettine was DC (e.g. Rashan Gary over Brian Burns), or if under Barry we can utilize guys that are more finesse rushers. We did take Enagbare last year who was at the time more of an undersized pass-rush specialist, but I am not real sure what the Barry D calls for here.

6'4" 258 with a 4.8 40-yard is not an undersized pass rush specialist. Kingsley Enegbare is Za'Darius-sized.
The Stokley-Barry Rams defense had some lighter edge rushers like Leonard Floyd (in the low-to-mid 240s)
All 3 of our edge guys can play on the edge or move inside as interior rushers. I want a guy who can be on the edge or play off ball. Preston is given that role,. but he's also jumbo for a role like that

I honestly never watch small guys because I just feel the Packers have an aversion to small guys. And it's a policy I don't like.

For some reason I thought he was in the 240s.
But I do remember that as a prospect, he profiled as a guy who isn't very stout against the run and needs to add functional-strength but has some nice pass-rush moves and is decent at getting pressure. I do remember he was a 4.8 guy but I don't think the 40 tells you anything meaningful with a guy like him.

I'm intrigued to watch more of this guy now.
Mathews was 240 plus when we drafted him, I don't care much what size they are, as long as they can beat OL and pressure the QB thats what matters most to me, as to dropping in coverage, to me that matter more if ya don't have coverage able ILB's, that isn't the problem as much now as it was years back.
I havn't watched a lot of vids but Smith or Van Ness, both could help us.
