Gutey says cap will be tight but "Russ has some good options to create some things if we need them"
Spotrac is already updated. Looks like $12MM to $13MM after the Top 51. So yeah. After your draft picks and and Practice Squad....it's going to be TIGHT. We will have to make some adjustments before September to free up a couple million.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑26 Apr 2023 16:05Gutey says cap will be tight but "Russ has some good options to create some things if we need them"

RIP JustJeff
I remember Blogger Andy saying his college tape of him in coverage is so bad you'll beg to have Kentrell Brice back. That in mind, LB is probably the better spot for him.

I always thought the Carpenter pick was weird. STs made sense but he has no position on defense. Not fast enough to be a safety. Not big or strong enough to be a LB.
Cancelled by the forum elites.
It was a 7th, so not really a big deal. You take a shot on a guy with some traits and see if he fits someplace. If he's ST only, so be it.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑26 Apr 2023 20:55I always thought the Carpenter pick was weird. STs made sense but he has no position on defense. Not fast enough to be a safety. Carpenter plays defense?
Of course! He played 16 snaps last year on D (best as I can find).

Are we already at that position where it's stupid to invest in STs in the offseason but then complain we never invest in STs during the actual season?
Yep, the argument has been made that a big part of the reason our ST went to &%$@ was because we kept swinging for the fences with high-upside lottery ticket players in Day 3 over JAG guys with good ST value. Carpenter and Toure were definitely taken in 7 in no small part for their ST value.

Exactly. He was one of those "tweeners" that you give a shot to. If he improves only the ST's, it's worthwhile. If he contributes on defense, it's a win.paco wrote: ↑26 Apr 2023 20:58It was a 7th, so not really a big deal. You take a shot on a guy with some traits and see if he fits someplace. The reason STs was &%$@ was poor coaching and terrible personnel decisions.Labrev wrote: ↑26 Apr 2023 22:13Yep, the argument has been made that a big part of the reason our ST went to &%$@ was because we kept swinging for the fences with high-upside lottery ticket players in Day 3 over JAG guys with good ST value. Gutey drafted a punter and long snapper and both didn’t see out their rookies deals. Gutey even got a LS that was even more atrocious to replace the guy he drafted. Then he got a decent punter who couldn’t hold for &%$@ somehow. And on top of that we promoted Drayton from a failed STs unit.

He's a stud teams player, great 7th round pick
I know, that's why I said "a big part of the reason" not "the whole reason" or "the reason."lupedafiasco wrote: ↑27 Apr 2023 07:19The reason STs was &%$@ was poor coaching and terrible personnel decisions.Labrev wrote: ↑26 Apr 2023 22:13Yep, the argument has been made that a big part of the reason our ST went to &%$@ was because we kept swinging for the fences with high-upside lottery ticket players in Day 3 over JAG guys with good ST value. From now through the 2027 season, 4 years, Jordan Love will have Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft. Then throw in Romeo Doubs for the next 3 years as well.
Talk about being able to build some special chemistry.

Why would Watson be 4 years?
