Very good athlete with the college production to back it up, but where do you play him?

At 6' 4" should easily be able to put on 15 pounds.

3 to 5 technique to start. After some professional strength and conditioning I could see him moving everywhere except a 0.kampmanfan4life wrote: ↑29 Apr 2023 11:54Very good athlete with the college production to back it up, but where do you play him?

Post-pick presser; came in a little late
Whoever is doing this presser says he's an inside pass rush threat who can play from multiple spots and multiple gaps.
But also more athletic guys who can chase things on the edge ("we don't expect him to chase down speed sweeps around the outside, but cutbacks and such...")
Pass rush due to "quickness, fluidity, and motor"
The Packers guy talking says he's from Auburn so he's known about the kid for a while.
Speed and athleticism allows him to surprise some guys from behind--causing some of his forced fumbles
He was stood up sometimes in college, and he can do that, but that's probably not his best trait or best fit scheme-wise

Not a terrible strategy to go smaller.
We already have size on our Dline.
Clark - 315
TJ - 330
Wyatt - 305
Ford - 340
So having a guy in that 280 to 290 range (after he puts on some weight) might actually be a great asset to have.

I feel like he either got bad advice or he personally doesn't like the kind of player he'll be asked to be.
Like, Moro Ojomo added weight foor the senior bowl and combine to show up and weigh in stronger and be an interior DL.
Wooden cut weight to get a better 40 time? If he played in the 285 range, he easily could have added to the 290s and had a much stronger iDL profile.
This isn't any cause for alarm, just strange that a 285-pound interior DL cut weight to run for the combine instead of added strength.
Jarran Reed was our interior pass rush threat last year. It is nice to draft that replacement that can be a good compliment to Wyatt moving forward.
We got Clark who is your all around
We got the Slatons and Ford for your run stuffers
We got Wyatt and Wooden for your pass rushers.

Doubled down on the athleticism traits. Maybe thought he'd be thought of more as an edge. But I like what I'm hearing with his burst and inside pass rush skills. Get some more weight on him and may be a nice inside rush option, with some run stopping ability in a couple years.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑29 Apr 2023 12:05I feel like he either got bad advice or he personally doesn't like the kind of player he'll be asked to be.

Between Ford on DL and Walker and Jones at OT, I think we have more developmental talent in the trenches than the media gives us credit for.
Read More. Post Less.
The whole team this year is developmental. But 2025 to 2027 could be really good (need to find another RB and couple OL and DB by then).
The weight he is, may be what is best for him. Add 15 and he might get slower. I’ve seen post saying that the packers can bulk him up 15-20 lbs no problem…which may be true…but we both know that if he wanted to play 20 lbs heavier, auburn has the skill and conditioning staff to bulk him up 20 lbs too.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑29 Apr 2023 12:05I feel like he either got bad advice or he personally doesn't like the kind of player he'll be asked to be.

I Do Not Hate Matt Lafleur
Came across his name but didn't look into him, read his NFL.com scouting report.... I love everything I'm reading. They had him as a Day 2 guy. Sounds like a straight Value Pick.

Well Auburn was playing him a decent amount on the edge and even standing him up sometimes.Drj820 wrote: ↑29 Apr 2023 12:16The weight he is, may be what is best for him. If you want to make him more of an NFL interior guy, the incentives and structure of that body type may change.
But yes, 285 may be best for him. Perhaps he's more like those Steelers 5-techs for a decade or so who always seemed to be in the 285 range and were parts of good, useful defenses. We'll see.
I mean his playing weight and current weigth are already 10 - 15 pounds than his combine weight.Drj820 wrote: ↑29 Apr 2023 12:16The weight he is, may be what is best for him. This guy is a 285 - 295 player. He isn't a 273 like his official draft weight says he is. 273 was concerning. The 285/290 he will likely be is a lot better.
you keep saying this as though this team is in rebuild, we are retooling just as we've done often the last 30 years, you seem to forget in 08 we did a complete retool of the defense and it didn't take 2 or 3 years for that to work
players keep developing year after year after year and even after there rookie contract, that actually never ends.
I don't understand the negativity for this season or even next, Love is as ready to start as any other young QB
thing is no matter what the pre draft hype, it is literally impossible to predict how college players will adapt to the NFL, and that goes from the first pick to the last, so all we have is HOPE.
