What if the Jets Win the SB?

Post by texas »

How would you feel if the Jets win the Super Bowl this year, due in large part to Rodgers' dominance and ability to finally get over the playoff hump (sort of, obviously, since he already got over it once)?

*Obviously we will all be disappointed because if he wins then that means logically that we will not have won it, but for this poll, try to ignore that when answering; I'm curious to see how people feel specifically about Rodgers winning it (after repeatedly choking for us) versus any random QB.

I'll answer first. I will be happy for him and rooting for NYJ if we somehow get bounced.

The 2021 offseason notwithstanding, Rodgers was a great Packer for a lot of years with a lot of respect for our fanbase. His exit was very much not like Favre's. I think we all know that this was the best move for both sides, and it seems to have reinvigorated him in a way that would have been impossible had he remained here.

If he were to win it all in 2023, it wouldn't at all mean that he would have won it all with us, or that we somehow missed out on having a special season.

I will be disappointed because it mans that next year's draft pick will be worth less.

To be the answer depends on how Love looks/plays and how successful the team is.

If Love is awesome, I won’t care about Rodgers’ success. If Love stinks, I’ll be spiteful about Rodgers’ success. And there’s a whole spectrum in between.

But either way I will root against the Jets in ‘23 for the sake of the Packers’ draft pick, regardless of Rodgers.

Good for Rodgers, he deserves another ring, as long as he's not playing us.

I guess a little of both.

I'll be happy for him while disappointed our draft pick is gonna be degraded significantly. And as YoHoChecko mentioned, a lot of my satisfaction with the Packers season and "caring" about Rodgers season will depend on whether Love stinks it up or not.

I would be jealous because the "why not us" game would play in my head. Very similar had Favre and the Vikes done it in 2009.

then why is it so hard for you to look at the reasons why either would have excelled on there new team, again your blame for these issues is mis directed, the problems most often start at the top, it's team building far more then just the QB.

you pick out the QB for not being perfect, and give a pass to the reasons why he simply wasn't a tad better, well most QB's aren't better, they simply have more successes because they have a better supporting cast.

Not bad, Mike. Waited till your 2nd post in this thread to go there.

I’d be disappointed in our draft pick, but would absolutely be happy for Aaron. Clear things were just getting stale here and wasn’t gunna get better.

However I’m really not expecting it. Seems like I have lower expectations for the Jets here than most. Just too hard of a schedule, division, conference. Middling offense talent with a poor OL, but very good D.

Co-sign, I would be bitter; especially when in my mind he was the reason we failed to do it in at least two seasons.

But I could be okay with it if he wins it the way Peyton Manning did in Denver, i.e. he plays so poorly that the rest of the team needs to carry him, and nobody rationally credits him with the win.

As for the draft pick, my mindset is House Money. My expectation is low so the higher it is, the more pleasant the surprise. But for all intents and purposes, it's out of my mind, plays no part in what I want with Rodgers/NYJ; I want Rodgers to fail for moral reasons.

And sorry yoop but you can save your breath, because unless you have anything new that might be compelling, your usual talking points are not gonna convince me that he did not have enough HALP to pull it off here, least of all for a guy who purports to be the best ever at his position (he's so great that he just needs three Pro Bowl players to win big games!)

same O same O hater, all of my talking points are valid, our GM's over the last 6 drafts or more have failed to supply Rodgers with quality ST's, defense, or offensive skill position players.
Favres words when we last won the SB speak volumes, he said he expected it because the team finally had talent needed to be able too go that far, and in 2020 our players &%$@ the bed, a bunch of dropped passes, ST's that screwed up, and a defense that couldn't get off the field, rinse and repeat for 2022, and you blame the QB.

and I'am not trying to convince you of anything, you can't HALP yourself

My expectations is around a 6th seed and likely lose in the WC round. I do really like the Jets roster. I was very impressed by that squad last year. But as you said, their division alone is brutal. If they can't go at least .500 in the division...they are going to struggle being a top 7 team.

I counted at least 14 dropped passes in that NFC Championship game. But I'm not gonna go back and watch it.

The only time I let real emotion get to me in football outside the Packers was when Seattle failed the 4th and 1 in the Patriots SB and when Favre threw that bone headed INT just like he did in 2007 to Donald Driver when Ryan Grant was wide open.

Justice was served in both those moments. And it pleased me greatly. But I don't get into emotional moral rooting very often.

I will also say this.

Winning that trophy in 2010 was so freaking sweet. I was such in the minority of being a Rodgers believer and TT/MM believer from the start in 2008. So to see them do in 2010 with all that adversity that year was so gratifying. The only time I had any doubt that season was after we couldn't beat Detroit even with a healthy 1st half from Rodgers.

But to have so much conviction in what I was seeing and to end up being right was so, so sweet. I was however wrong in the long run because I was convinced 3 SBs was the floor.

If Rodgers wants it...they can be very good. If Rodgers goes all in from August to January, they can be very, very good.

But that is a difficult outcome to predict. 2015 - 2022 proved that with 28 game stretches of bad play. 8 game stretches of outworldly play. Then another 40 games of bad play followed by 32 games of outworldly play and finally 19 games of bad play.

I will be happy for him. Though I do wish he would have put the effort into the Packers the last, say decade, he is putting into NYJ right now. Last year especially, attending offseason stuff would have really helped the rookies. I get it, you go somewhere new and there he is reenergized a bit. I really like AR, but that is the one thing that bothers me a bit.

I'll be happy for him. I'm looking forward to seeing how he'll play with a different franchise. I'll probably even be a bit of a closet Jets fan this season.
