Here's how this works:

Each day there is a new thread/poll, starting at #1, on down to whereever we get. The whole point of this exercise is to have something to talk about in the lean news months to carry us to camp. Each poll will be open for voting for 24 hours. New threads will only be created on weekdays. Ties will cause a runoff poll. You may vote up to TWO players (a change that was made mid-poll last year, seemed to work well).

Simply voting is not enough!

Post why you voted for who you did and provide a player to add to the next poll (every poll will be a list of 15-20 guys, new players added in bunches every few days).

Here's the thing. There is no criteria. This is an exercise to foster discussion therefore there are no clear criteria for ranking. Who is better right now? Who will have the best season? Who was better last year? Sort of a combo of them all? Do you take positional value into account? It really doesn't matter.

Stokes and Runyan


Kind of just left a tier I feel like. But definitely entering a new one. See about 5-10 guys i could see going in the next slot or two.

#18 is the 3rd highest a rookie has gone in this (Alexander and Savage both went #16). Quay and Myers both went #19, one pick later. LVN's starting spot is a bit less secure than the other players that went top 20 as rookies.

Runyan and Myers. Both are clear starters on our OL, and our OL is one of the team's strengths.

Savage is probably a starting safety for us this season, as talented as anyone else on the list, and the only one who we can say has had a good starting season in his career. He did turn things around last season after getting benched. It's a contract year as well, so the pressure is on.

Talented as the two rookies are, I think Deguara is still starting for us at TE, and I think he will be able to show off a lot more of what he can do with more snaps and the fact that he and Love seem to click.

And who knows, now that MLF can finally run his system(!) that FB/H-back role might have some utility.

I'm not quite sure that they're in real competition here. In OTAs and minicamp, the TE group and FB group have frequently worked separately and Deguara is over with that dude Pearson the FB.

Not that Deguara will never play in-line, but he's an H-back and Musgrave, in the early goings, will be a jumbo slot receiver. I also expect to see Deguara step up and be utilized more this year, but I think there's room to debate how big of a role and whether it's really a "starter" or a useful role player

I went with Stokes. I think he is the Day 1 starter opposite Alexander and that Rasul starts at free safety and that Nixon plays the slot.

For my other pick, I think Musgrave is the clear starter.

As for Myers and Runyan, it is entirely possible that Tom plays their position. That would require major improvement from Yosh because he absolutely sucked at RT vs the Lions, but it is possible. Don't count out Tenuta at RT and Rhyan at guard with Tom at center. Neither Myers nor JRJ are locks as starters. Even Newman might have the lights turned on, he has the athletic ability to start at either RT or RG.

I think both Myers and JRJ are fine players and I hope they remain Packers until they retire. I just don't rank them above Stokes or Musgrave.

Early reports outta OTAs have Deguara with the starting offense, usually listing him between WRs and OL, so he not only appears to be a nominal starter but is also presumably still at TE, even if he is also getting cross-trained at FB.

He's also had two full seasons and his rookie offseason of coaching at TE, and the system hasn't fundamentally changed, so he doesn't really need to be coached up to play the position.

He bounced back from it well, and the pressure is still on with his contract ending this year. He's also the only guy on the list who's ever started a whole year and looked good (solid rookie season, good second year).

It's safe to say that one of the starting S gigs is his to lose, although he's certainly capable of losing it, but then the competition at his position isn't overly strong.
