A few days ago JL put out a statement himself saying he was moving on after the bowl game. Just prior to that it was reported he was offered to stay on as DC, so everyone just assumed he would do so.Yoop wrote: ↑08 Dec 2022 20:29it was on yahoo late this afternoon, I'll see if I can find it
nope it's gone, the only comment still up is that Leonard will only finish out this season, so he's available.
I've seen this before with Yahoo, they will post up anything, then fact check, then yank it off if it fails the credibility check.
anyway I wont get my hopes up to much till the FO makes a announcement.

https://wisportsheroics.com/breaking-fo ... n-badgers/New Wisconsin Badgers head coach Luke Fickell and new offensive coordinator Phil Longo have been working the recruiting trails hard. Their hard work paid off on Saturday morning. Four-star quarterback Nick Evers, who entered the transfer portal from Oklahoma, announced he has committed to Wisconsin for the 2023 season.

Awesome!

So Mertz transferred to Florida. Jim Rome has the FL coach on right now and Rome asked about Mertz. The coach was clearly searching for good things to say about his actual play, instead focused on his experience (32 starts).
Remember Mertz’s first game as starter? Dude completed 20 of 21 pass attempts and had 5 TDs! Man, I was stoked about the future. Then the real Mertz emerged.
Haha. They started off great, and then crapped the bed in the second half. Looking forward to 2023.

Fun to see. I don't follow Badgers football closely. It seems a few things I have read were pretty negative on their recruiting abilities of late. Big time coaching hire should help. Is this program heading in the right direction or are they destined for perpetual mediocrity?

Paul Chryst wanted his coaches to recruit without a full time recruiting staff, which was a HUGE mistake. These days recruiting had to be 365. Luke Fickell seems to be a breath of fresh air. Was at a practice this spring and he is intense and the practices are very uptemoo.NCF wrote: ↑03 Jul 2023 07:03Fun to see. I don't follow Badgers football closely. I've only followed the Badgers loosely over the past few seasons. What went wrong with Paul Chryst? Things were looking so promising with him when he first came on.

Poor recruiting due to structure of who recruits and putting all his money on Mertz.Captain_Ben wrote: ↑07 Jul 2023 18:16I've only followed the Badgers loosely over the past few seasons. What went wrong with Paul Chryst? Things were looking so promising with him when he first came on.

Yep, recruiting is what killed him most. We were losing in state recruits for gods sake. Mertz was a big flop. Fick is just doing everything right (as of now), and there is so much excitement around this team. Recruits are coming in and it is cool to be a Badger again. Fick is a leader. This is going to be fun.Pckfn23 wrote: ↑07 Jul 2023 18:32Poor recruiting due to structure of who recruits and putting all his money on Mertz.Captain_Ben wrote: ↑07 Jul 2023 18:16I've only followed the Badgers loosely over the past few seasons.
