I think he’s the best safety on the team. The concern with players like him was his front seven has been so good he never needed to do too much.

Yeah, I have been beating the drum for him all offseason. Fully expect him to be one of the two starters.

The problem with guys coming back from an Achilles is they have an increased chance of blowing an ACL. If he gets by this year he should be okay though.

Skipped camp. I'm sure he saw the writing on the wall and wanted a fresh start somewhere else. Might have been a good bday gift.

He was so far back on the LB depth chart they were working him on the line. Writing was on the wall as you said.

Spin it all you want. Saying HBD on social to the guy, and cutting him a couple hours later…on his bday…is a brutal move.

Could have either not said HBD and cut him or just waited a day, or done it the day before.

Cutting someone on their bday shows the lack of humanity that Rodgers railed against.

He skipped camp in 2022 as well. Honestly I'm surprised he wasn't cut last year.

I should find Woden’s presser, maybe get me more excited.

He was probably my least favorite draft pick. His size doesn’t seem to have a real position, and with Van Ness, really adding a lot of this tweener types.

Can only play 2-3 at a time, either you’ll get killed in the run or you can drop anyone in coverage, and guys that size their forte probably isn’t pass rushing.
I didn't pay attention to him at all pre-draft because I didn't like his 'tweener size.

Turns out he was an all-freshman SEC contributor on the inside who Auburn poorly developed and utilized. They kept putting him outside and inside and using him as a hybrid and kind of maintaining that size. He says he'll add bulk and muscle now that he knows he's inside, and inside is where he wants to be.

He also said he's only ever been a bench warmer once and he decided never again (I think he was referencing high school). He's an interior pass rush specialist all day. No need to play him on anything but 3rd and long. We have Clark, Wyatt, and Slayton for the other stuff, not to mention whatever development and rotational impact we get from Brooks. I just think Wooden will be ready to contribute in a very specific role immediately. Just have to use him right and let him develop from there.

maybe I was wrong about the "very specific role" thing

You're not alone !
Here's what I read about the (2) "tweener" DL GB drafted and why they did it
They wanted more pass rush than Reed/Lowry could deliver inside, but they also wanted guys with lateral movement skills. The idea is that with all of the quick WR screens and outside zone running - they can't get stuck with big, relatively immobile DL. Add in the plethora of running QBs and the need for quicker DL comes into view vs the run and the pass game. They'll move these guys around as needed. They are not run plugs, but they will be able to defend the run through the use of alignment & technique.

The way they protect them from getting creamed on a G-C double team is that they line em up at the 4i position. The Center just can't reach em when they are in that alignment. I had posted some stuff of the 4i-0-4i TITE front previously, here's the link below

Once you see how they are going to deploy these 2 DL, the concerns over "tweener" are mostly ameliorated.

Social media happy birthdays come from the PR department. Getting cut comes from the GM. All I see here is another example of a lack of communication with the team.
