2023 Season Expectations

I guess "expectations" is a dual sword term.

Like i am saying what I expect from the team...if they do not meet this standard then i will judge them. For example: Barry has 8 first rounders, I expect him to field a top 10 defense.

But on the hand what do expect that we see: I have my doubts Barry will field a top ten defense.

So the things i laid out when I went through the schedule game by game is what we "should" expect or demand from this staff and roster.

Do i think they will achieve what they should achieve? Im honestly unsure what they do/how they will respond.

was Barry the main reason the defense was sooo inconsistent? first the DL other then Gary didn't play that well, and when Gary was injured the pass rush basically tanked right out, putting even more burden on Johnny Grays lack of chemistry, cohesion and basic under standing of zone coverage, Johnny was fired and Barry kept his job, which leads me to thing Gray was the bigger problem.
I expect a turn around to 2021 form.

Same with OL, it started off slow and didn't get that much better till Bahk and Jenkins got better, still the rest didn't play back to form all year, can't get much worse

the receiver situation revolved around Lazard till Watson stayed healthy, that also has no place to go but better, which I expect it will.

again for varied reason I think Love is more ready to start then Rodgers was in 08, I think he's had better tutors and that includes the QB he is replacing, Favre wanted nothing to do with Helping Rodgers for those 3 seasons, while Rodgers has been involved teaching Love every step of the way.

for these reasons and more I expect this team to be better then many predict.

If Barry can adjust to that reality, the team will fair well. If he doesn't, he needs to go because the strength of the secondary is so obviosu and if he can';tmake use of it, he's a bad coach.

I'd like to see some surprise safety blitzes. Don't know if Barry knows how to scheme safety blitzes.

Today the padded practices start in TC and we have a lot more to go on.

Love looks better than expected.
The team is optimistic and there is a positive edge to the team.
Gary and Stokes look better than expected and may be back earlier than expected.

I predicted 8 wins originally. Now I think 10 and the NFC North is a better prediction.

As mentioned in another thread I consider that to be way too optimistic. If the young core players develop as expected that might be a realistic take for 2024 though.

I thought I had already responded to this thread but apparently not, so here goes.

I expect a season that starts slow for the offense, at least from an execution and scoring standpoint, but builds throughout the season as players acclimate to their new roles. I expect Jordan Love will have his growing pains but I also think he'll provide adequate play that keeps them competitive. Thankfully, the Packers don't need him to be all-world to compete for the division title, as evidenced by last year's squad and early projections for the division this year. I do expect greater dependance on Jones/Dillon as the workhorses rather than an offense that is heavily dependent upon the QB to make elite level plays. So long as Love plays within himself, allows the playmakers to make plays, and responsibly manages the offense they'll be fine. Not record setters, mind you, but good enough to compete.

I have high hopes for the defense, but am also realistic with the fact Barry still coordinates the unit. We've been down this path before. If I'm being honest, I believe the success of the season rests more on the play of the defense than Love and the offense. The defense needs to perform to a level commensurate to the investment that has been placed on the unit. Keeping the pressure off Love and the offense will go a long way in creating a successful season.

I am also hopeful, and fully expect, the ST to continue it's upward trajectory. I have every confidence that Coach Bisaccia can make that happen. Providing complimentary play for the offense/defense will go a long way in the team's success. Steal a score or two along the way, all the better.

From a record standpoint, I'm hopeful. Say 8-10 wins. Compete for a division title/wild card while exhibiting consistent growth. That will be my definition of success, not necessarily a playoff berth. Then, come 2024, look out.

Fanduel has the wintotal over under at 7.5 and that seems about right.

If we are under that total, call a spade a spade..it’s a failure of a year. With this roster, and in this division/conference…anything worse than 8-9 is a failure.

But 8-9 is pretty acceptable with the built in excuse that we have a first year starting qb.

9-8 should have us competing for the division title and that would be a very good year to me.

10 or 10+ wins and Lafleur should be under COTY considerations

As mentioned in another thread, the Packers didn't come anywhere close to winning the division last season as the Vikings finished 13-4.
