having just one joint practice is enough, and maybe not with a team you'll play 2 days later, players hold grudges, why chance a cheap shot.

This isn't the 1950s NFL...

Schneidman, too.
The consensus is that yesterday the Packers got the edge over the Patriots. Today, the Patriots got the edge and then curb stomped the Packers.
Lots of fighting, too, which is surprising because both BB and MLF abhor practice fights; they're not in the common camp of "these things happen, let them shove it out a little"
But almost seems like the coaches pretty much lost control--two players were dismissed from practice; a Patriot for a huge cheap shot in ST work and the Packer for responding to that cheap shot by throwing a punch.
Just a wild time that doesn't seem like it accomplished much in terms of football. But also when it was about the football, the Packers weren't up to the task. Wonder if a young team crumbled under the distractions...
Also, from what I can tell/recollect, today was Love's first multi-INT day of camp. I can't be sure of that, though
If one side comes in ready to cheap shot the other not much you can do. If you react in a game you get 15. If you don't react you get called out. Have to see how tight the refs are in the game.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑17 Aug 2023 15:39Schneidman, too.

Having seen these for a few years now, I am convinced these practices should replace preseason games and one day is plenty. Replace all three preseason games with these controlled practices, televise them, and it solves a lot of problems for the NFL.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑17 Aug 2023 15:39Schneidman, too.

ehhh, I'm not sure.
I think real game vibes aren't really replicable for players and coaching preparation. Practices are still practices. I think all the talk about preseason is polarized because the players have a union advocating for fewer injuries, the owners have power and a pedestal advocating for more money and the dialogue stays completely between those points.
But the coaches/GMs don't have any mechanism to get their message out. Coaches and GMs from what I've seen have never expressed any interest in eliminating or reducing the preseason. It's a hugely important tool for them. I bet they would all keep preseason games if they had to choose between that and joint practices. But obviously I'm just speculating based on indirect commentary they've give. I haven't heard anyone given that precise hypothetical.
The value of the preseason isn’t really for the 1s. Sure it might help them “ramp up”, but it’s really for a good evaluation of the bottom of the roster. Ie: who will make the 53 and who will make a practice squad.NCF wrote: ↑17 Aug 2023 17:30Having seen these for a few years now, I am convinced these practices should replace preseason games and one day is plenty. With the 1s getting good reps at joint practices, preseason games are by far the superior option for controlled bottom
Of the roster evaluation.

Also, I should expect this by now; but, like, Packers Twitter is unhinged. The number of people drawing BIG conclusions and asking BIG questions out of a bad joint practice is just nuts.
