I missed the game but have read this thread and have seen the highlights. I thought Love looked good. The incompletion on 3rd down towards the beginning of the game, I don't hold against him. It looked like great coverage by the Patriots defense and I'd rather the QB get rid of the ball quickly like he did and give the receiver a chance to make a play than hold onto it forever or take a coverage sack. The throw to Doubs obviously was fantastic. Looks like our offensive line is a real strength. That Patriots D-line was imposing its will against the Texans last week and I thought our 1's did a great job against theirs.
I think I've seen enough from Love at this point to believe that he's not going to suck. I would like to see how he responds when under pass rush pressure, though. He has benefitted from some great offensive line play so far this preseason.

For those of us who couldn't see this game live I hope the NFL Network replays this game this coming week.

https://packerswire.usatoday.com/lists/ ... -patriots/Top 5 offense
1. WR Romeo Doubs: 91.0
2. RG Jon Runyan Jr.: 87.0
3. QB Jordan Love: 86.9
4. WR Malik Heath: 83.0
5. QB Sean Clifford: 81.8
Doubs caught two passes for 52 yards on just nine routes, and both catches, including his 42-yarder, were considered contested catches. Runyan Jr. didn’t give up a pressure and earned the team’s top run-blocking grade. Love had a “big-time throw” (see: 42-yarder to Doubs) and earned a grade bump with his 11-yard scramble. Heath caught all five targets for 75 yards on 18 routes. He averaged over 4.0 yards per route run and had two contested catches. Clifford delivered two “big-time throws,” nine passing first downs and a completion percentage over 70.0.
Top 5 defense

1. OLB Kingsley Enagbare: 96.4
2. DL Karl Brooks: 80.4
3. LB Quay Walker: 79.4
4. OLB Justin Hollins: 78.7
5. CB Kiondre Thomas: 77.0
Enagbare produced two pressures (both sacks) on just eight pass-rushing snaps. It’s likely he’ll be one of the NFL’s top-graded defensive players during the week. Brooks delivered two pressures and a strong run defense grade, which was helped by a tackle for loss. Walker had two tackles, including a stop on a short completion against his coverage. Hollins had a quarterback hit on eight pass-rushing snaps. Thomas earned the team’s second-best coverage grade after allowing just one completion on three targets. He broke up one pass.
Bottom 5 offense
1. RT Zach Tom: 39.2
2. LG Elgton Jenkins: 44.8
3. TE Austin Allen: 46.0
4. TE Tucker Kraft: 49.7
5. WR Samori Toure: 51.3
Tom was good in pass protection but only average in the run game, and he committed two penalties. Jenkins was so-so in the run game and also got dinged by a pre-snap penalty. Allen and Kraft weren’t targeted in the passing game and earned below-average grades as run blockers. Toure ran 13 routes but didn’t have a catch. He was well-covered on his only target.
Bottom 5 defense
1. LB Tariq Carpenter: 25.1
2. OLB Arron Mosby: 28.7
3. DL Jonathan Ford: 32.6
4. CB Shemar Jean-Charles: 42.9
5. DL TJ Slaton: 53.1
Carpenter missed a tackle and earned the team’s worst run-defense grade. Mosby had 13 pressure-less pass-rushing snaps and was the second-worst run defender. Ford played 24 empty snaps. Jean-Charles gave up four completions, missed a tackle and committed an illegal contact penalty. Slaton did little over 13 snaps.
Special teams
Cornerback William Hooper and outside linebacker Kingsley Enagbare earned the top special teams grades. Both had tackles. Henry Pearson, Shemar Jean-Charles and Anders Carlson (delay of game) had special teams penalties. The Packers didn’t miss a tackle. Carlson made all three kicks, including a 52-yard field goal. Samori Toure averaged 18.0 yards per kickoff return and 1.5 yards per punt return. Rookie Anthony Johnson Jr. and running back Patrick Taylor played a team-high 11 special teams snaps.
Quarterbacks
Jordan Love: 86.9
Sean Clifford: 81.8
Love and Clifford combined for three “big-time throws” and zero “turnover-worthy plays” while completing 66.7 percent of throws and averaging over 8.0 yards per attempt. Both quarterbacks were excellent from clean pockets. And both quarterbacks had a completion on a pass thrown over 20 yards in the air.
First-round pick
Top pick Lukas Van Ness bounced back from a quiet preseason debut with a far more effective performance against the Patriots. He had a quarterback pressure and two stops over 17 snaps. His 75.8 overall defensive grade was the Packers’ sixth-best.
One grade to know
78.9: Rasheed Walker, a 2022 seventh-round pick, started at left tackle and was terrific, producing the offense’s sixth-best overall grade. He didn’t allow a pressure over 23 pass-blocking snaps and earned the team’s second-best run-blocking grade along the offensive line. Walker jumped Yosh Nijman on the depth chart at left tackle, and this performance should help his chances of being David Bakhtiari’s top backup.

It’s on YouTube, sort of. They have the entire broadcast there. But the entirety of the screen isn’t shown.
Come on down and try some of our delicious green chili! Best in the world!

Glad to see JRJ grading well.
OLine play--aside from obvious busted plays which are somewhat rare--is one of the things I need explained to me to form my opinions rather than just watching. JRJ and Myers both struggled last year and needed to be mor inconsistent. We've talked a lot of Myers' apparent regression, but if JRJ is stepping up, that really helps our interior.

It's very strange to me that two 0-techs that didn't register anything positive or negative in 13 or 24 snaps are comparable grade-wise than a CB who "gave up 4 completions, missed a tackle, and committed an illegal contact penalty."Pckfn23 wrote: ↑20 Aug 2023 14:22Bottom 5 defense

I would rather have 24 empty snaps from a NT than a very poor showing from a CB any day, haha

Ok, this is mildly wild
So Zach Tom has a very bad grade soley because of an excessive celebration and being illegally downfield?

One of those PFF head scratchers.

I'm intrigued to see how Herman grades him. He took those scouting classes and does his own grades, and they're usually pretty similar to PFF's enough so that you can tell they're painting from the same picture. But I imagine things like penalties are counted differently.
But for instance this week, Carrington Valentine had BY FAR Andy's lowest grade on D and he wasn't in PFF's bottom 5. Some others, of course (Mosby, Ford, SJC) were similarly low for both.
Phillips was Andy's 3rd lowest Defender, while Paul Bretl pointed out that he's been playing ahead of Carpenter and looking good.
So if PFF's grade on Tom is JUST because of the penalties, I'm sure we'll get some differentiation. But if Andy says Tom had a worse game than most would have noticed, and PFF's grade was also low, I'll note it.
They did but in the end showed the Steeler game instead yesterday.
Yeah that made me do a double take because I thought Zach Tom was AWESOME on Saturday.
So far this is my takeways from August:
1. Our defensive line might finally be legit. Like really legit.
2. I don't think Jordan Love will be bad. I don't know how good he will be yet, but I don't think he will be bad.
3. Our offensive line should be top 10 if not better and we have solid tackle depth.
4. Our Wide Receivers and Musgrave has so much potential but will also provide us many inferiating moments in 2023.
5. Our edge rush group is deep. Perhaps deeper than 2019 (Enegbare is better than 2019 Gary).
6. Lukas Van Ness is looking to contribute a lot less in 2023 than I was expecting a month ago.
7. This team likes each other. There is just this aura that this team really, really likes each other.
8. I think Jayden Reed is going to end up being that next "classic 2nd round Packers WR" after a few years.
9. Josiah Deguara sucks.
10. I sense the arrow is pointing up for Quay Walker and he will end up being the Green Dot helment in 2023.

I agree with a great deal of this. I have questions/caveats/follow-ups on some.go pak go wrote: ↑21 Aug 2023 10:28Yeah that made me do a double take because I thought Zach Tom was AWESOME on Saturday.

1. I agree the DL may be legit as pass rushers, and I know Ford and Slaton are making forward strides as well, but I do wonder if they will be a good enough run D unit this year, as Brooks and Wooden and Wyatt continue learning.
2. Yup.
3. Love our OT depth. Love seeing JRJ stack success at RG. Agree about OT depth; agree it should/could be top 10. But both Myers at C and the lack of interior depth I believe in right now makes me very nervous that the bottom could fall our or that the run blocking won't be good enough fo the balance we need.
4. Agree, though the infuriating moments for me are likely to have as much to do with the fact that they are dropsies guys than they youth and inexperience. I don't think drops are the worst thing in the grand scheme of things (affects a handful of plays only over a whole season). But they are the most frustrating thing to watch. More so than, say, not being on the same page/miscues.
5/6. LOVE our edges. I really didn't expect a huge year 1 impact from LVN aside from a brief glimmer of positive reviews in late OTAs, so this feels about right. LVN is competing for edge4 behind Gary, Preston, and Enagbare. It'll be Hollins' experience, steadiness, and leadership versus LVN's pure physical traits and need for reps versus Cox's pass rush specialist snaps if you ask me.
7. Really among my favorite things this offseason. The vibes are immaculate.
8. Agreed. Really enjoying Reed. Had high hopes for him right away. Thought he was a teensy bit of a reach/surprise at draft time due to his size, was definitely a guy that film guys liked. I think he's very similar to Jahan Dotson who people thought was a reach at pick 16 two years ago, but then quickly watched and decided he was a great pick.
9. hahaha, oh dear.
10. Green dot in 2023 for Quay? Huh. I hadn't thought about that. I know Barry said that he hasn't worked out who's doing the dot so maybe. But man, I'd really like him to get a little more veteran savvy before being our guy for that. I guess maybe Campbell's injury may force our hand, but I think Quay needs to think less and play free and get his experience and instincts aligned better before he's responsible for other guys' assignments. But that's just a vibe.
Green Dot helmet candidates
D'Vondre Campbell
Quay Walker
Jaire Alexander
Darnell Savage
Rasul Douglas
That is my order from most likely to least likely
I think Rasul would be great at it, but I am not convinced he is going to be a 100% snap guy

Yeah, it also almost always is a center-of-the-field player to have a good view of what's going on, and Rasul (despite everyone's dumb hopes and dreams) is an outside CB.
Savage, to me, should be there by now but isn't--I view him similarly to Walker in that sure he could do it, but he seems to do better when he's not asked to think as much.
