I have thought for pretty much all offseason that the probability of the Packers keeping 5 WRs on the roster is greater than the Packers keeping 7 WRs. We don't use them. Especially now with a guy like Funchess sitting out....why keep 6?

Begelton and Shepherd can easily stashed on the practice squad.

Adams
Lazard
EQSB
Kumerow
MVS

And if you want to play, you better be a damn good blocker.

The extra spot will likely go to Dexter Williams or someone on the defense (like Vernon Scott)
Yeah I can see it, as well; it depends on how those guys play. If Begelton forces his way onto the team with strong practice performances, that could push against that narrative... but I'm fine with only 5 especially having Ervin work in with the group.

I’m not sure why we keep Kumerow. He’s 28, has a history of injuries, and is really not that good. He doesn’t have any upside to him other than Rodgers likes him. Might as move on and keep a younger guy we feel we can work with.

Yeah I really think the battle is between Dexter and Reggie. Both may need to excel at STs and blocking to get the nod.

But if Dexter starts showing the game slowing down for him, the notion of keeping him is big as we will at the least need to fill one hole of Jones/Jamaal next year.

This would be the season that preseason would be fun and needed more than ever to see the QB2 battle play out on a game field. As far as begelton and shepherd and all them, it sucks they won’t get any preseason film to let the team see who really deserves a spot. So hard to tell anything off practice. It has just been so deceiving time after time. I agree those guys need to prove their worth on STs. I will be disappointed if shepherd decieves the eyes again and gets a spot on the final roster. I just lack belief in his real game ability after last season.

No I don't think he has really any shot at roster spot to start the year nor do I want him to.

But I think for him personaly he deserves a job on the practice squad and for a kid out of NDSU I think that is something for him to be proud of.

I hope Begleton makes us can't cut him. But I really do think we only keep 5 WRs at this point.

There's a LOT of talent in the 2020 RB room, though not all may not be listed as RBs
I'm guessing all of these guys record a carry in 2020-

Aaron Jones
Jamaal Williams
AJ Dillon
Tyler Ervin
Josiah Deguara
John Lovett
As GB went into offseason FA/Draft, MLF said he wanted another RB. Gute got him 3.

The last time GB had 6 different ball carriers was an injury-plagued season in 2012:
Ced Benson, James Starks, Brandon Saine, Kuhn, DuJuan Harris and Alex Green

Shows you just how bad we had it back in 2012, and for many other years, at the RB position.

This might be the most stacked RB group I've ever seen on a Packers squad. No joke. Dexter Williams is also in that group, but outlook probably doesn't look good.

Also, RIP to Benson. There was a time where he was a freight train running down hill.

It really is.
Deep and diverse skill sets for a HC who features the run game to set up everything else. GB moved up from 32nd in rushing attempts in 2018 to 15th in 2019 and the efficiency was there too. Packers ranked # 4 in rushing DVOA per Football Outsiders, that's pretty impressive for the Packers RBs and OL and I hope to see more of the same in 2020

The sad part is, McCarthy hyped it for a number of years - and likely had a number of guys in the stable - that could have seen that sort of production/jump. He never made it happen though. Even with Lacy, it was mind numbing how little snaps he would get carrying a 6.0+ average in a game. McCarthy also had Jones and Williams in his backfield.

Someone on Twitter just called John Lovett like Taysum Hill, but with better passing skills... just FYI

Packers scouted Lovett before the draft, tried to grab him as a UDFA and then were thrilled to get him via waiver.
MLF has talked about the possibility of sequestering one of the QBs away from the team to keep them COVID-free...
and if they do that I think John Lovett is the emergency QB3 on Sundays

That's not saying much. Hill's career numbers are 6 for 13 with a pick.

Just thought that for a fanbase who has lamented the "mistake" of losing Taysum Hill for years, they might be excited to know we maybe have one now?

Certainly didn't come from me.

This stable of RBs we have looks amazing. Really hope the right side of the line can support them. I’m less confident in Wagner at RT than most. But the potential to have no need for higher caliber WRs is there through the strength of the backfield.

Ha maybe not I guess it just seemed like the vibe when we signed him was that we adequately replaced bulaga. Not that we got someone as good as bulaga, but that we filled that hole well enough and can move on. I’m just not so sure, think it could be a pretty big hole in the very nice boat. :idn:

Yeah, I mean I can see it both ways; the hole has been filled by an NFL starter, but a guy right around average at it.

I think RT and CB4 are the two spots where this team is worse than last year (and I included an increase in sacks in this thread's original projections due to the downgrade at RT). Like, can we field a capable team with this guy? Yeah, but it's a potential weak spot the team must be aware of, and obviously a downgrade.

The thought that if Wagner was fully healthy, he'd return to the guy he was in Baltimore (where he still wasn't as good as Bulaga but I'd feel better) is possible, but he's already missing practices with injury.

I mean we have enjoyed basically a top 5 (for sure top 10) offensive line every year basically for the last what... 13 years?

We can get by with a not-so stellar offensive line if the ball comes out in a normal 3 seconds or less and MLF's system of complexity is actually successful.

But I agree that Oline could be a tough thing for us. We have just taken that group for granted so long because we have been able to.
