Just curious how members here feel about the tackle made on Nick Chubb last night?



The full play as it happened.



#39 Minkah Fitzpatrick is the player who rendered the hit to Chubb's knee. As seen in the 2nd video, he was not blocked into or engaged with another player prior to the hit. It was a conscious decision to go low on the ball carrier.

So what are some thoughts? Just an unfortunate part of the game? Was it dirty?

We know the NFL outwardly protects QBs from hits like this, at least while in the pocket. Should the NFL protect RBs/all players from decidedly low hits (exclusive of inadvertent) like this?

I don’t know how you play defense anymore. Guys going 100 MPH to get these big, strong, physical runners to the ground. They go high, they are making “business decisions”, they go low and they are dirty. What do they do?

force players to tackle the way tackling is taught, or use to be taught, MInkah went in shoulder first or what has become safe for the DB or tackler, but devastating to the ball carrier, plus it was delivered from the side right at the knee, if the cleats hold, there is little chance the knee will, something has to give.

to me these type hits are cheap football, we see this often, surprisingly, we don't see even more knee injury's as a result of low hits, every year we see lineman on IR do to low hits to the knees.

Minkah does not look like he is trying to hit Chubb at all, not directly anyway, just trying to throw himself in Chubb's path so as to get Chubb to trip over him and fall over. Normally, the ballcarrier would flip forward over the player tripping him, but he unfortunately got his leg caught (because the other tackler was holding him in place) and then bent out of shape. Bad luck, not dirty IMO.

I haven’t seen any news, but I saw a photo from the injury and that guy is in bad a bad a shape. No way around that at all.

your right, Minkah didn't intentionally go for the knee, and if not for having his foot trapped Chubb may have just tumbled forward as you say.

I still hate this type of tackling, actually hate below the waist leading with helmet and shoulders to the legs hits period, I don't care that it helps the runner or the offense, it'll still be the same for every team, and safer for the players.

we protect WR and QB's as much as possible, why not RB's and lineman, why allow chop blocking, these athletes make a living with there legs, when there lost it wipes out there team

seriously who here likes the last healthy team wins mentality of the currant NFL? I have never really been a fan of gladiator style football, where the goal is to stop the opponent from playing the rest of the game, which these type hits can produce, obviously there noting like the nuclear rocket launchers of the Johnny Lynch era, but they still do just as much damage.

You also are calling tackles to the legs or below the waist cheap and explained how you hate them. So the only other alternative would be tackling above the waist... So, explain how tackling "used to be."

he did nothing of the sort, just look at the vid, he was looking at the ground as he turned his body, and his arms are closed in to his chest, this was meant to be a glancing shoulder hit, fine, but he doesn't use the arms

your condoning exactly what I doubt coaches teach, I know I never was, eyes up, arms extended, hit with the shoulder and wrap, all he attempted to do was hit with the shoulder, whatever, everyone does it, I just don't like it.

go look at the vid APB brought, and then try and hand me this eyes through the thighs, he was looking at the path to the ground ahead of the runner, where he was going to dive to, this aint water polo, hit the mid section and wrap up the ball carrier, the way the game is taught, this diving at the legs to stop the opponent is why we see so many missed tackles, it's garbage ball.

What am I condoning? Eyes through the thighs, hit with the shoulder, drive through the legs, shoot the arms and wrap. That's a tackling. Nothing cheap about going for the legs or below the waist.
