What’s he doing?

I like Herman but this is a dumb tweet. There are two LBs sitting in that hole waiting to tackle him if he goes that way. Musgrave blew the block and his guy got the tackle. The hole between Musgrave and Wicks was just as good as the hole between Runyan and Newman if Musgrave holds his block.

And Andy addressed it by saying Runyan should have gotten Werner at the second level--sure, but he didn't. And there was another player right behind them.

i think andy is a cornball and i dont really like his content, but the ILB has both gaps covered and is standing flat footed. Dillon should always just run straight ahead and take on the flat footed defended and get his 3 or 4 yards. There was no advantage to running extra yardage to find another hole that that same linebacker is standing in. By going sideways he lost the ability to just run straight forward over someone.

Regardless, it really feels like they dial up runs that do not suit him. They need to keep him running north-and-south. I thought he had a few nice runs early in the game when they were doing that, then they kind of abruptly brought in the other 'backs and went back to these sorts of calls.

he doesnt need to be making reads. he need to be north south bulldozing. the hole was pretty wide open. running sideways to find a bigger hole was just silly.

I saw a comment that Dillon should be reading the ILB and that Werner stepped inside so Dillon cut outside. Tough to tell. And Dillon has been bad so I'm not trying to defend him.

I just, as a rule, hate those snippets of "why didn't he run here?" tweets. They're bad analysis. Even if you're right, the process as an outsider is assuredly wrong/just a guess

It's obviously a called run to the right, Musgrave just can't hold his block and Dillon lacks the speed to get there when that gap was open.

while he probably should have taken off into that A gap, to me it just seems like a obvious he just went with the called play.
