Leverage. Right now, the injury risk lies with Jones, if he busts a chinstrap, he's out and missing a chance at the bigger $$. The Packers will take on some of that injury risk by giving him a fat signing bonus now in exchange for some flexibility and total dollars later. Once Jones hits FA in March, there is no injury risk to leverage AND he is free to negotiate with all teams, including some with boatloads of cash/cap. So the Packers chances of getting him on a "reasonable" deal are dependent on it happening before the 2020 season gets underway.
2 year extension with a substantial signing bonus and the ability to hit FA again in 2023 at 28 yrs of age

In pure dollar amounts, who do you think gets paid more? Jones is a better player within his position group, but King plays a more expensive positions. Jones has proven himself at a higher level than King has. Both have availability concerns like you said. What's a realistic contract target for Jones? For King? I find this general question between these two to be fairly intriguing. I also think about it in position group costs--can we pay two CBs?

I wouldn’t pay a penny over 6mil for any RB in the league. Realistically Jones probably gets 11mil on the open market. That’s just by opinion. He’s probably on par with Mixon minus the draft status. Definitely ahead of Drake.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑08 Sep 2020 09:53In pure dollar amounts, who do you think gets paid more? I wouldn’t resign King either. Inconsistent and often unavailable or not 100%. I would give 7.5 max to King but on the open market I can see him getting upwards of 12 because teams are hurting for CBs. I expect him to have his best season on a contract year and get paid elsewhere.

Packers 'Depth Chart'
https://www.packers.com/team/depth-chart
Little notes, Mercedes as starting TE, not Tonyan, Sternberger is at 3rd. Turner at RT, Wagner backup and Taylor starting.
Randy Ramsey ahead of Garvin
Josh Jackson backup PR and Sullivan backup KR

Under MM, it was made very clear that the coaches and front office don't have anything to do with the website depth chart, as Mike would tell the media "that's a question for Brett," or "that's all Brett," referring to a guy who worked in the media/comms/pr area of the team. Essentially, the depth chart was observational, not insightful and revealing.
Do we assume that to still be the case? Seems like the media is jumping on published depth charts even more than normal this year given the lack of other information available, but as much as I want new info, I feel like this is all sorta... for naught? Especially how careful the team was to hold their secrets close to the vest this offseason... do we really think they'd publish something revealing, backtracking on that secrecy, the week before the first game?
Not sure what thread is best for this. Didnt see one specifically for depth chart chatter. I see on the Packers website Billy Turner is listed as the starting RT and Wagner is listed as the backup. I know there are some injury issues there, but i didnt realize in the eyes of the team Turner straight up beat out Wagner for that spot. I hope once healthy maybe Turner will be better at RT than he was RG, because going from Bulaga to Turner seems like a pretty big downgrade.
Also noticed Love is straight up QB3. So if Rodgers needs some time off. We can expect to see Boyle, not our first round draft pick. I have heard (but not from anyone i would particularly trust) that Love had a rough camp. Hopefully he can continue to improve and start getting reps with the second team as soon as possible. I think pretty highly of Boyle, but considering where we drafted Love and the plan for him that would imply...I hope he can start throwing with the second team and getting some better experience soon.
A first round QB not coming in at least at QB2 seems pretty unheard of. That position is different than others. GPG.

As I said in the above thread, the depth chart is not necessarily indicative of what the team thinks or who won the battle. Don't read too much into that.Drj820 wrote: ↑08 Sep 2020 13:16Not sure what thread is best for this. Didnt see one specifically for depth chart chatter. Anyone who didn't expect that was fooling themselves. Love was drafted specifically as a player a year or more away with elite upside. Putting a player on the field before he is ready is counterproductive to the development of a player learning a new offense, adjusting to taking snaps under center, and reworking their footwork and some additional fundamentals. I've said from the jump that this was the best outcome, and as soon as COVID hit, it immediately became the most likely outcome, as well.Drj820 wrote: ↑08 Sep 2020 13:16Also noticed Love is straight up QB3. You're right that the position is "different," but it's different in the opposite direction. QBs are the ONLY position that tends to go in the first round even when there is no contribution expected in year one. Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starter in Miami. Tyrod Taylor is the starter in San Diego. And those are places that NEED QBs.
Aaron Rodgers was behind Craig Nall in 2005 and would have been QB3 in a fair evaluation. But the team kept only 2 that year and went with the investment and potential (of course, and correctly). There is literally zero information of consequence from Jordan Love this year. It just isn't even on the radar of football relevance no matter how badly reporters want it to be.
no kidding.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑08 Sep 2020 13:31the depth chart is not necessarily indicative of what the team thinks or who won the battle. Don't read too much into that.
MLF stated that he isn't disclosing the starting RT until 90 minutes before kickoff on Sunday, so its hardly a surprise they listed Turner first
Turner's injured and the least likely to get the start...which is consistent with MLFs preference to keep em guessing.

Any depth chart that puts Billy Turner at starting RT is a joke. Billy Turnstyle cannot play RT. And if they actually play him there I guess they will need 3 QB's.

Well, coach isn't making that official... so, no panicking yet.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑08 Sep 2020 15:43Any depth chart that puts Billy Turner at starting RT is a joke. Billy Turnstyle cannot play RT. And if they actually play him there I guess they will need 3 QB's.
LaFleur should just flip the offensive line, and have Bak at RT. That will keep everyone guessing.
RIP JustJeff
Huh, Pete Prisco has GB as NFC SB rep
Not everyone is completely overlooking GB.

Opening Day = End of the Tim Boyle Laser Show at practice. Boyle has really taken a step forward- mentally, physically and being a Pro.

The number of guys saying how awful they feel for Lane Taylor makes me think this is a long-term thing. Interesting to see what happens with the OGs. Lots of options, even with Lucas Patrick out. Should be interesting.
