This is encouraging. I like what he had to say with his preparation and ability to explain the game plan to the team.

First feeling was what????
Now I'm thinking this is Jim Leonard with NFL exp. They both have a lot in common on working with less and getting secondary play.
Love the idea of more 4 man front. Gary LVN and Preston are built to handle DE. We have 3 tech penetration guys. Makes the Mich dt look interesting to this front
Love the idea of press man aggressive cb play. Now we need the safety help. Splash FA or 2 to cover up the back. Another quay Walker speed dude
Build the culture and play fast.

Come on down and try some of our delicious green chili! Best in the world!
My initial reaction was being less than inspired. That, admittedly, was based on disappointment in NOT going with a young but established experienced NFL level coach, particularly one of those Baltimore guys.
Oh well. I shouldn’t be surprised.
I don't know much about this Hafley dude. I’ll reserve judgment until I see some background on him. Sounds like his desired scheme is significantly more aggressive. I can at least get behind that.

Side note: I can’t help but feel similar about this hire while passing on Dennard Wilson as I did with Joe Barry when MLF passed on Evero.

He coached McDuffie at BC. So someone has experience in his defense.

This guy has great eyebrows! And a gravelly voice. He'll be great!

Find a WR who hits and convert him.texas wrote: ↑31 Jan 2024 18:34I would love a centerfielder type of safety again, if they even exist anymorelupedafiasco wrote: ↑31 Jan 2024 18:22Some quick thoughts.
First I think if you want the most out of Stokes this is how to do it. He will only ever be good in press man situations because his lower body is so god damn awful at the receivers break point.
I think everyone across our defensive front gets more value except Brooks. I think he excelled in the way we used him under Barry. I wonder if we use him maybe as a big edge at times.
LB now becomes an incredibly high needs. Do we need to keep Campbell now? We could go the 49ers route and have athletic freaks at LB and have one of them like Burks who is a weak option but can get value as a part time player in base.
Finding the mythical single high safety now becomes priority one and this type of safety often fails because they’re all speed and no reads.
So Teddy T, remember him picking a player no one expected in a few drafts, no one expected Jeff Hafley, under the radar,no hype from the media, but he's been around, mixed reviews, again give a coach some talent, the good ones get results, he has.
40 fronts??? give me a front that gets results, 3 point, 2 point, doesn't matter to me, man coverage needs pass rush, hard to pull that off without it.
was thinking what if it's no one we've heard of, and sure enough, just goes to show how secretive this stuff can be, never heard a mention of this guys name this last week.

I am encouraged that Hafley appears to be far more aggressive than his predecessorS.
But as always I won't believe in the defensive side of the ball until I see it on the field next fall.
Welcome Mr. Hafley and good luck.
