So this is technically a 5 year, $232.757 million deal. $47.5 million per year.

Save it for the mid season arms race and roll the rest over. Not being able or willing to take needy in the MBA style trade deadline arms race has cost us Super Bowls at the end of Rodgers dominance.

there is a status symbol with being the highest paid player, but it's fleeting, this will last till the next feature starting QB is signed, glad it's done now we can get down to the business of earning it, and I bet Love is chomping at the bit to do just that.
plus we still have some money to extend or even add someone.

You may want to temper your expectations considering what Gutekunst said concerning getting Love extended:lupedafiasco wrote: ↑26 Jul 2024 22:53Save it for the mid season arms race and roll the rest over. Clearly Gutekunst and the Packers have reservations over handing out big contracts to just anyone. I would postulate that extends to exposing the organization to those knee jerk deadline moves you're talking about. As you've already noted, the Packers have not made any significant trade deadline moves of late and it doesn't sound like Gutekunst is the type to just jump at a player on impulse."The nice thing about having a guy in your building for the last four years is you absolutely know who he is. There's no guarantees about anything going forward. But we know how he's going to respond and how he's going to react and how he's going to work, instead of signing a player that has not been in your building and guaranteeing all that to him.
"Certainly having four years with him, I think gives us a lot of comfort, and what he's all about and how his teammates look at him and the organization looks at him."
- Brian Gutekunst
Was figuring that $45 to $50 million per year range and he got it.
Overall was hoping for closer to $40 million because of his small sample size. But man. Jordan Love made a LOT of money start last Thanksgiving and beyond.

Yessiree GPG. That big W on Thanksgiving Day combined with the big W in Dallas. Great timing going into contract negotiations for a QB that was 9 and 8 in the regular season. I hope his receivers can consistently get open and the line keeps the running attack viable throughout 2024/2025.

Now that THAT is taken care of we can move forward. I still have reservations because it's a huge sum of money and I've seen many QB's come in and dominate only to have what they do well be taken away after an offseason and not be able to adapt. I've always said, that's what really separates the greats like Brady, Rodgers Etc from those that look really good when everything else is good. Couple that with the fact i can't scout QB talent better than a coin flip, it makes me nervous until I see it repeated.
But what was GB going to do? put themselves in a worse situation going forward by not extending him? Not really an option in my eyes either, so here we go.
That said, this team doesn't have any glaring weakness heading into the season. There don't seem to be any sure fire, must have additions I see this team needs to go out and get now in order to have a chance. We have a lot of talented youth who actually earned some stripes last season. I expect their hunger to carry over and push and propel each other. Let's just watch that for a bit.
If something comes up, someone falls off, someone that is an obvious upgrade becomes available, injury etc, Gutey always has his eyes open and we can buy, spend, trade once things start to shake out.

And I'd guess in a few years, the cap will expand to the point where Love's contract can be accommodated if they so choose.

Looks like contract still being worked through by the media as these numbers are a bit different. The deal has $100.8 million fully guaranteed at signing, with a practical guarantee of $140.3 million. After only two seasons, the full guarantee moves to $160.3 million.

I agree and disagree. Our placekicker is currently a glaring weakness. Hope the place kicking situation gets fixed prior to the Eagles game. The kicker needs to bring consistency to his place kicking duties.musclestang wrote: ↑27 Jul 2024 07:52Now that THAT is taken care of we can move forward. Our kicker is 11 of 12 so far with his only miss hitting the crossbar on a 50 yard FGRingoCStarrQB wrote: ↑27 Jul 2024 11:13I agree and disagree. Our placekicker is currently a glaring weakness. By all accounts so far, he is kicking the ball clean and each one has gone right down the middle.
Offense ended up winning practice today, notwithstanding Love shaking off rust at the beginning. Sounds like they looked night and day better.

RIP JustJeff
The Dolphins are fools for re-signing Tua, period. Love, to a degree, is still a question mark, and in that sense, I do not like the idea of giving him so much money. But I also understand that this is just the way the league works now. Tua on the other hand is what he is- a left handed Dak Prescott who is injury prone. He is listed at 6'1" but I have my doubts about that- I believe he is smaller. Rule #1 of Papa's GMing Bible- never give undersized injury- prone QB's the big money. Dolphins are $%@#.

Not sure I understand anybody mad about this deal. This is just the nature of the QB market. Should he be the highest paid? No. I personally have 3 QBs as better than him in Mahomes, Herbert, and Allen. Short list but Love looked that good down the stretch with an undeveloped offensive cast around him.
I mean I thought Love would be a bad player but at some point you gotta eat the crow. He performed. I think most players crumble after playing like absolute dog &%$@ through the first half of the year. He just stuck with it and continued to play and turned into one of the leagues best QBs.

Frankly very impressed with BG and Ball here. Cap structure is the following. They opened a clear 4 year window with the decision point of extension or cut going into 2027/2028.
2024: 20.7 million
2025: 29.7 MM
2026: 36.1 MM
2027: 42.4 MM
2028: 74.2 MM
By my math, there would still be another $35 MM or so of Void year cap hit after 2028
