PFF doesn’t like GB players…salmar80 wrote: ↑26 Sep 2024 14:04Yeah, I agree.
Since there was no penalty, it officially counts as a sack. No doubt about it.
But there's no official stat about "sacks given up by". Any attempt to create such a "stat" leads to an unavoidably very subjective process, since it can be very hard to tell who is to blame on a given play, especially without knowing the protection call etc.
Would I assign blame and give a negative grade to the LT on that play? No. Not his fault.
Either the refs messed up and didn't penalize Wyatt for neutral zone infraction (difficult to say without seeing the sideline view) OR the center messed up by snapping it early, trying to catch Wyatt for the penalty. In either case, not Lane's fault.
There are other instances where the result of the play and a grade for a player on that play may conflict. For example, in the last game Malik Willis threw a risky deep out that shoulda been intercepted, but the corner took a horrific angle and fell, resulting in a big 3rd down conversion. In fact, the corner messed up so bad, it looked like a safe throw. Despite the great result, I'd give Malik a minus grade on that play for throwing a should-be-intercepted ball. Can't expect for the next corner to also screw up.

PFF has been suspect in their grading since they required grades to come out before the All-22 even comes out. An increase in the speed of releasing grades and has led to a decrease in accurate grades. Use them, but take them with a grain of salt.
Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."
Yeah, this is 100% correct. Audience's yearning for insta-grades has tanked their credibility. I kinda get it, since they are making the monies for entertainment masquerading as educated opinion in the vein of instant draft grades. But what I don't understand is why they don't have a separate "Upon Further Review" or "All-22 Grades" show on like Wed or Thu. I'd check that, not the insta-grades.
I also wish Andy Herman would do a video where he grades a play or two based on all-22, just to show us the process...
LaFleur has figured out a brilliant habit of holding his mid-week pressers just before the injury report comes out, so he can quickly swipe aside any questions about injuries. I can't remember whether MM did this.
Every day Love isn't cleared is another day of Minny prepping for 2 systems.

Josh Jacobs fined 45,000 US dollars for playing RB.
Someone tell me how this was fine-worthy for Jacobs?!?!
I know lowering helmet to initiate contact is a no-no, but it's kinda difficult to lower pad level to drive for extra yards without head coming along with it. There was no helmet-to-helmet hit at all, zero risk to the defender. Had he gone in upright, helmets probably woulda banged together. I guess in ideal case he coulda surged forward a bit to the side of the defender, but that woulda required inhuman aim, since the defender was trying to get in front of him. What the hell is he supposed to do, go intentionally too high and get blown up?
Fine is so high apparently because he was fined for this multiple times as a Raider.

But, but, but, that is exactly how I want Jacobs to run the ball. Establish momentum, initiate contact, make the tackler pay while driving him back. Job well done by Jacobs!
Come on down and try some of our delicious green chili! Best in the world!

Another thing to note: The 45k fine is in line for a repeat offender. In 2023 he got fined twice, but he appealed both. One fine was reduced, one rescinded. Let's hope this is wiped out on appeal, or he could be in risk of missing games for another BS charge. There are 4 former players tasked with being appeal-hearing officers in player-discipline cases: Derrick Brooks, Kevin Mawae, Ramon Foster and......Jordy Nelson.

One of the chat-sters here was demanding a more badaffs Packers team mindset. So now it's a reality. Go Pack!
Any local post-game updates on Watson?

I had to look up this year's IR rules, since both Wyatt (pending MRI) and Watson likely suffered high ankle sprains that usually take around 2 months to heal, and IR rules seem to change every season.
Looks like we can put both on IR and bring 'em back after min 4 weeks when they're ready.
We can bring back a total of 8 players back from IR during the season (2 more if we make playoffs), and only current possibilities to return are RB MarShawn Lloyd and DL Jonathan Ford. AJ Dillon and Tyler Davis were put on season-ending IR before start of regular season.
Arrowhead Pride summarizes the IR rules thus:

Arrowhead Pride summarizes the IR rules thus:
The NFL has once again tweaked its rules for players on a team’s Reserve/Injured (injured reserve) list.
Most of the rules remain the same. Once a player is placed on the list, they must miss at least four of the team’s games. While on IR, they are not counted on the team’s active roster — although their compensation is still counted against the salary cap.
After four games, a player may be designated to return, which opens a 21-day window during which they can attend practices but are still not counted on the active roster. If they are not activated to the roster during this period, they must remain on IR for the rest of the season.
While each player may be designated for return twice a season, a team is allowed just eight returns from IR during the regular season. In the latest adjustment to the rule, a team appearing in the postseason will be allowed 10 returns that year.
--
One other March adjustment to IR rules remains unchanged: at the final roster cutdown, a team may designate up to two players already on their Reserve/Injured list to be available for return during the season. (Previously, players were required to be on a team’s 53-man roster for at least one day before they could be returned from Reserve/Injured during the season). Even if they do not eventually return to the roster, players designated in this way will automatically count against the limit of eight (or 10) IR returns.

THis is good news. Seems to be ok with Hamstring and then this. So much talent in that kid and by all accounts he's working to be best he can. I hate seeing him injured all the time. I want to see what he can do with 10 weeks of field time on a consistent basis.
I'd temper my expectations when it comes to Watson's return timetable. What LaFleur said was: "I don't really know. I think we'll know more in next couple days. I'd assume he'll probably be out most likely at least a week or so."
Emphasis on AT LEAST.
It was a poor decision to throw that ball by Love. He is going to get one of his WR killed.musclestang wrote: ↑30 Sep 2024 18:47THis is good news. Seems to be ok with Hamstring and then this. I took a closer look at that in the GTD, and it wasn't as egregious by Love than first seemed.wallyuwl wrote: ↑30 Sep 2024 20:08It was a poor decision to throw that ball by Love. Looked to me that the expectation was for the ILB to carry Musgrave deep, not undercut the crosser. Watson's route is designed to beat exactly that coverage with Musgrave clearing the middle, and Love threw it with accuracy and timing perfectly into the supposed window. The LB came all the way from other side of the LoS (lined up right at the LoS), making it hard for Love to see. That was a great unexpected call and execution by Minny.
Should Love have recognized it? If it was an unscouted play, it woulda been a real tough ask. Ball came out at around 2.5 secs, not leaving time to scan the entire field. It's not like Love floated one over the middle for desperation hospital ball.
If he does that again, THEN I'd slam Love hard for it. Now it was certainly a bad play with a too-high cost he best learn fast from.
