You weren't kidding. That dude is terrible with his "analysis".
He definitely is watching it for the first time as he is talking about it. It's annoying.
Ok, ok,

I want someone who knows about football, and not calvinball, to analyze that play. I hope Mike Wahle and/or Andy Herman does it this week in detail.

Thoughts:
1. I'll take a win on the road anytime. Clutsy and uninspired as it might've been. It is legit a good win. Yeah, they lacked five starters on O. We lacked two starting WRs too and some DBs.
2. Love had no business throwing that deep ball to Reed. It had like a 1% chance of completion. If Rams' DB doesn't lose sight of the ball it gets knocked away for sure and maybe picked. And that's a play on SECOND down. It was reckless and Favre-esque. But it worked! (I can imagine Holmgren rolling in his bed now with nightmares remembering Favre.)
3. Love's pick six was foolish too. He had time to throw the ball away and live for the punt. Instead he forced it by trying desperately to make something happen. Again, Favre-esque. He paid a price.
4. Hafley's D seems to be getting home on more blitzes. The previous D in GB never reliably did that. We can't afford to live on that. We need the front 4 to make pressure. Maybe the loss of Wyatt was as important as anybody this day.
5. Running game was still okay and good enough.
6. Reed! The guy has the most YAC of any TE. He's excellent at making the first guy miss too. I'd like to see him lined up out wide sometimes too and see what he can do there on the sidelines.
7. I'm very worried about the lack of motivation in the first half. We had an entirely different team in the second half. La Coach needs to wake them up 30 minutes earlier!

Bonus: Give Guty credit for getting McKinney! He deserves it. Now, he needs to prep to spend another 1st on defense next year! Hahaha.

Reed?

Did you mean Kraft?

Side note: they’re both pretty damn good.

This information is reflective of much of the conversation on this forum, although I am surprised to see Nixon graded that well.

agree, could just say the same for both, I'd be fine lining both out wide just to be deceptive, both will draw support coverage almost any where they line up.

I think thats the biggest thing with having a true number 1, they demand over the top support as soon as they leave the los.

How badly do you need to misspell Kraft to get it auto-corrected to Reed?

We should bring in our subject matter expert for this one.

@Yoop, how 'bout it?

That's a good question. But you haven't seen how many autofill corrections I've had that were no where close...

If I edit my original post from "Reed" to "Kraft" then nobody can know that I made the blunder. Sneaky, right?

@APB I think that completion from Love was mostly due to luck. It was not the best throw of his career thus far. He threaded the needle on a TD throw against the Cowboys last year. That was a better throw and also not a dumb decision. Love is going to need to play with more consistency. He makes at least 2 very dumb decisions per game. He needs to improve his accuracy. If he can’t do these things, then this organization I will be in a bad spot. But hey, I can remember the days not too long ago when players had to sort these issues out before they were awarded generational wealth.
I think bad defensive play was what caused the luck. Love threw the ball as accurately as it could be, but when the ball was in the air, there were three defenders round Reed; when it came down, all the defenders were on Reed's right with no-one between him and the touchline. They should never have let Reed make the catch.
When I saw the ball coming down and how many defenders were there, I was screaming in my head (maybe out loud  ) WTF!!! Of course Reed makes the catch and we are all happy. IMO Love has at times made these deep throws(into coverage) that I personally have not cared for. It usually has burned him (first half of last year). Throws where its clearly man coverage without safety help over the top I have no problem with and he should be taking shots like that.

It's a throw I'd wish he not make again unless we are in desperation mode. I didn't like it then, I don't really like it anymore now. Yeah it was a huge play, but there were much better throws underneath, still huge plays, and no where near as dangerous.

I haven't met a person who thought it was a smart throw or even a moderately decent decision. It was not smart. many, not all, but many will say it was a great throw. It was a long throw, but I don't think it was all that great. Tossed to an open section of field that 4 people were able to get to. Luckily only Reed located the ball and caught it. It went thru a defenders arm by luck, not laser pinpoint throw. He didn't exactly "throw him open"

He just threw it,and it wasn't to a place only Reed could get to. he was 1 of 4. Considering the other options on that throw, I hope the HC and QB coach are having a nice sit down with JLove.

spot on, Love to often does not throw his receivers open, like this deep desperation type throw, he hangs his receivers out to get big hits, throws into double coverage to often, obviously we applaud tight window throws that are successful, but we shouldn't be seeing so many of em.

Yup. It was a 2nd down! And it wasn't about throwing a jump ball down there. The coverage couldn't have looked any better. It was a BAD decision that Love got away with.

I'm going to start calling those plays the "1%" plays. They have no chance of working and will usually result in bad stuff (i.e. turnovers or injuries). But they happen anyhow. Praying that JL minimizes those. Else, we give him jersey #4. Or isn't that retired now?

yep ol Favre was great for the "up for grab" throws, but they all do it, off memory, and I know we don't like him much any more, but Rodgers was so good at fitting the throw between 2 defenders with there back to Rodgers, he'd flick that ball there so crisp they had no time to turn and defend the ball, awesome stuff, Love did it to a few times last year, ya have to have a quick release and arm speed to pull that off, not that Favre didn't throw bullets, I think a announcer quipped once (might have been John Madden) he put that ball right through the guys ear hole :rotf: ol John had a way with words.
