Probably a good idea to do it while the Jets were distracted by the Davante trade. The Jets kicker is doing worse than Narveson.
Yeah, but Jets may be banking on this being just a temporary slump for a 82.6% veteran career kicker Zuerlein, while Narvy had no NFL track record. Zuerlein was 92.1% last season.lake shark wrote: ↑15 Oct 2024 19:06Probably a good idea to do it while the Jets were distracted by the Davante trade. The Jets kicker is doing worse than Narveson.
Good. It’s something. He may not be the answer, either, but it’s not standing pat and letting another kicker ruin your season.
Was Narveson cut outright? Any word?

Should have happened a while ago. Clear Narv needed to go after Vikings. Could McManus be worse? Shire but if you’re gonna fail, fail fast. We failed slowly with Carlson and Narv.

Lupe would cut a guy after 1 missed FG, a dropped pass, or a missed tackle!

Frankly McManus looks like a Mason Crosby statwise. Overall fans were happy with Crosby for the exception that his cap hit was top of league when his kicking wasn't.
McManus is generally that 80% - 85% guy with two years out of ten in that sub 80 range.
The weak spot for McManus is generally the 50+ yard FGs which means outside of 2022, he was pretty solid inside 50 yards.

I’ll take an 80-85% guy at this point and be content.

I looked at McM's stats as well, and they're reasonable/should be good enough. He kicked for the Super Bowl winning Broncos team which implies he can handle bad weather. Let's keep our fingers and toes crossed that this is THE GUY this season. I'll be watching in person on Sunday.

Decent cold weather kicker. My concern is his leg isn’t as strong as his stats indicate because he kicked in a Denver where the ball carries better.

Yeah I don't see this guy being a kicker we trot out for a FG longer than 54 yards. But frankly that is so rare anyways. We just need a guy who is consistent inside 50 and can be 2 of 3 in that 50 - 54 range.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑15 Oct 2024 22:07McMan-ass.lake shark wrote: ↑15 Oct 2024 20:08McManus just sounds like a name Lupe is gonna have fun with if he starts playing bad

Just have your offense get to the 35 and consider yourself in FG range.

The VAST majority of his misses are beyond 50 yards since 2020. 4 true misses under 50 and 3 blocks under 50.

Also making 28 from 50+ the last 4 seasons. That included 2 55 yards, 2 56 yarders, a 58 yarder, and 61 yarder.
This is most likely the best scenario we could hope for at this point. It might even be the best scenario we could have hoped for before the season started.

Yup. He is Mason Crosby at I'm guessing a third of the Crosby price.Pckfn23 wrote: ↑16 Oct 2024 08:46https://stathead.com/tiny/LTX8J

Isn't that what we wanted for the last 10 years?
Frankly I just hope we have a kicker who doesn't have a college number.
I hated #44 as a kicker. Kickers and punters should be #1 - #19. I'm not a fan of single digit defensive players either but I'm willing to pass on that if the player itself is awesome.
