Gutey faces an interesting decision this week: DT Jonathan Ford is healthy, and has to be signed to the active roster or cut.

So, do we want a second pure nose on the roster, and if so, who do we cut?

Slaton has been shouldering the early down duties thus far, and is no world-beater. I wouldn't mind seeing what Ford can bring.

I think S Zayne Anderson is the most logical cut candidate, tho it leaves us thin with pure safeties. Having both Cox and Mosby riding the bench is a luxury, but it's a premium position and either would likely get poached if cut. OL is a possibility (Telford, Dillard or Glover), again OT is a premium spot and we love to be deep and develop our OL.

I haven't even noticed. Has Zane Anderson been active at all this year or has he always been a healthy scratch?

He's been active in every game. 63% of STs snaps, zero on D.

I'd imagine Bisaccia would mutiny if we were to cut him. So scratch him off the list.

Interesting post, but I'm not seeing it with Ford

Ford was on the PS all last year, nary a nibble. DL are pretty hard to find, yet there he languished. He's not a great fit for the Hafley defense and his one useful trait is being a very large man who is able to screw himself into the ground and handle a double team. So far he hasn't shown that trait consistently ( and that's being generous)

TJ Slaton on the other hand has shown an ability to handle the run AND collapse the pocket. Is TJ a World -beater ?
No, but he's light years better than Ford. There is no chance Ford beats out Slaton.

The Packers have had (4) DTs active on Sunday, which of these guys are you sitting to get Ford on the field - Clark, Wyatt, Slaton, Brooks ?
And if you're not gonna play Ford on Sunday, then why cut another player who does contribute on gameday just so Ford can be a healthy scratch ? Gute would surely love to keep and develop them all, but there's a limit to how far he'll go for a PS-level player.

Can they cut him now and then re-sign Ford to PS at a later date ? If he wishes to continue his development in GB, he'll go along with that plan.
IF he wants a chance elsewhere, he won't.

I think so because he is not a vested vet, but not positive on the mechanics of that. I wondered from the beginning if this was merely keeping an extra player on the wider roster for his practice window only to cut him and move on at the end. I think I still lean in that direction when this reaches it's conclusion this week.

As I understand, we can do just that. Guess it makes sense to keep him in the return program until deadline (sometime early in the coming week), see how this game goes, and then make a decision.

After thinking it over, I doubt we carry two NTs active. So unless Ford has somehow turned into a beast, we can just cut him and bring him back on PS.

No GM is perfect, nor will there ever be a perfect GM. Not even close. That said Gutekunst is doing an amazing job of getting players we need and at least trying to fill holes where there are deficiencies. It won't and hasn't always worked out, but at least he is trying.

To start Brian was incredible at free agent acquisitions and working to plug holes to get the team as good as possible. His true weak spot 2018 - 2021 was his drafting ability. It wasn't terrible but it also wasn't great. His teams were incredible because he absolutely nailed his 2019 large FA signings, inherited great players from the Ted era (namely Rodegers and Adams) and was also a stealth killer on finding players in the bargain bin (up there with New England in their glory days honestly).

The last 3 years, Brian has still kept up his great free agent game (think McKinney, Eric Wilson, Jacobs, even Nixon at this original low price point) but is also drafting so, so much better.

This team's talent is insane. They aren't playing good - sloppiness, drops, turnovers, penalties, STs blundres. Especially from their players who historically do play well and yet they are still winning. I am really hoping BG gets his ring or two so he gets the recognition he deserves.

The only real knock I see so far on BG's resume is he doesn't have enough first round picks that are bonafide blue chippers. I would give him 2 - I would love to see 3 if not 4. (Jaw and probably Love). If Love continues to progress and one of Gary, Wyatt, LVN steps up....BG will be there for sure.

I think we should wear the all whites (and white helmet) more often next year. Bust it out in a couple road games. And then bust out the all green with gold lettering again, but instead, wear your regular gold helmet with the logo. Do that for 2 Home games.

Should be a once a season night game thing only IMO. Especially late in the season when snow is a possibility.

The Packers are still doing their green throwback uniforms too vs the Saints.

The link shows the uniforms for both teams for the 2024 season.

Miami is wearing their throwbacks vs us on Thanksgiving night. I wonder if the league put a stop to our All Whites vs the Dolphins because we would look too much like a Dolphin. But screw it. We should have made Miami wear their throwback teal jerseys and our whites.

But the link is great. Cool to see all the uniforms.

:dunno:

So you'd prefer the Packers wear all white in a game they'd essentially blend in with the elements? Wouldn't that make it just a tad difficult to locate receivers in the passing game?

I would like to see Kraft become even more involved in the offense than he already is. Would love to see him become Loves Rob Gronkowski. That was certainly a key to a ton of success for Tom Brady.
I think he is arguably the best player "at his position" on the team. Meaning, he is better at TE than any other player is at their listed position. He is becoming a complete nightmare for opposing defenses. Teams can't cover him with linebackers and DB's he will run over if given the chance. He is becoming a special player right before our eyes. MLF needs to game plan even more involvement for him.

Just my opinion.

Great hands.
Good patterns.
Excels at breaking/avoiding first tackler.
Willing and improving blocker.
Fast and big.
And, learning how to score TDs!

If he learns how to camp in the soft spots of zones, he'll become a perfect TE.
Come on down and try some of our delicious green chili! Best in the world!

also says how good Love and Willis have been at avoiding the pressure, because although the sack totals are low, we are seeing our QB's being pressured, I'd be interested to see the total pass pressures against us.

I've seen the high grades for the OL, yet they get pushed around like teddy bears, Houston blew up our run blocking, and forced Love into hurried delivery's, off target throws and a couple picks.

course Love throws into traffic a lot, so a pick here and there is expected, but he looks to be hurried and forcing at times, usually because the blocking is breaking down. jmo.
