Wyatt back in action this weekend. One of his strengths is a quick get- off, so we'll see if his ankle injury impacts that 1st step

https://www.packers.com/news/packers-dl ... going-2024

Outside of Xavier McKinney...
there may not have been a hotter player on the Packers' roster through the first month of the 2024 season than Devonte Wyatt.

The third-year defensive tackle shot out of the gate with seven tackles (five for a loss), five quarterback hits and three sacks in his first three games before suffering an ankle injury against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4 that sidelined him for the past three weeks.

With a wide smile on his face, Wyatt made his highly anticipated return to the practice field Wednesday as a limited participant. While his three sacks remain a team high, the 6-foot-3, 304-pound defensive lineman is excited to rejoin a surging Green Bay defense featuring 11 players with at least one sack this season.

Their offense put 41 on the Patriots the previous week with the same players out. Our defense held them to a WHOPPING 55 total yards passing! That has happened 5 other times since 1990. https://stathead.com/tiny/44W8N

Don't give us this nonsense that it was only because the Texans were missing key players. Other than the 2nd quarter run defense that struggled to adapt after Quay went out, they rocked it.
Keep guessing how to accurately assess the situation.
I never guess. I know. The Packers have a good defense.
Who was Houston even missing other than Nico? I know they were banged up on Defense, but this is a gross conversation.

I remember liking Wyatt in that class over team mate Jorden Davis, hopefully I was right, adding him makes this rotation should frighten every QB we face.

thanks for sharing :aok:

Agreed. I didn't even have Charles Jorden in my top 100 that year.

We are blitzing less than last season (19.9% vs 29.3%), but are still getting WAY more sacks from LBs and DBs: 8.5 already, had 4.5 all last season.

We'll see if better offenses can decipher our "everyone at LoS, rush from 3 to 6 of them" -scheme, but so far Hafley's camouflage scheme is working.

We won because our defense dominated. The Texans remained in the game because our STs and offense had stupid mistakes (especially the punt fumble).

I am not taking any less value in beating the Texans because they didn't have Robert Woods. Robert Woods in the game would not have tilted the table. The Texans longest drive was 55 yards. The Texans couldn't geta TD when they started at the 15.

The Packers earned the victory because the defense was awesome. Also injuries happen. I don't hear anyone here say we didn't beat MN because our top two CBs were out. You deal with them (and frankly the Texans did awesome at doing this).

The Packers are a really talented football team. I am confident GB can beat anyone in the league as long as they don't leave points or give points to the other team.

Oh you know I love big dogs. So I had Davis ahead of Wyatt. But I LOVED the idea of getting Wyatt with our 2nd 1st round pick. Didn't love the Quay Walker pick. I wanted the edge who ended up as a Jet.

I figured our first pick would be a receiver, or Wyatt, I didn't expect us to take Walker, I watched quite a few vids of Georgia pre draft, both had some great plays, but Wyatt just seemed more active, and much quicker, and Davis more like a 2gaping NT and his tackle numbers reflect that his 2nd season.

also figured since there are so few like him his value would be higher and he'd be gone anyway, so Wyatt became my choice, was surprised he was still there at our late first round slot.

glad he's back, he's got a great season going.

Oh man, I didn't like Wyatt, I thought he may have been a John McCargo (JAG who benefits from having an elite talent alongside them, e.g. Mario Williams in McCargo's case, or Ron Brace with BJ Raji) plus he is stupid and had character red-flags.

'Hated the pick, happy to have been wrong about it. 'Turns out, Jordan Davis was the McCargo of the group between himself, Wyatt, and Jalen Carter. You can dominate on pure superior size, strength, and athleticism in college. In the pros, you need superior skills or you're a JAG.

So, to re-cap. Our defense played well because the Texans had a bunch of defenders injured? They were down Nico and back of the roster players on offense. You belong in a looney bin.

If you watch the presser, the assembled reporters tried soooooo hard to create a rift, schism, issue, story and Hafley calmly explained to them they were completely ... totally full of excrement. Good stuff :aok:

Some clips on the Packers defense here- and how the Texans attacked the run defense as soon as Quay was out

https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2024 ... ans-part-1

Early in the 2nd quarter, linebacker Quay Walker left the game with a concussion after he got kicked in the head by a teammate. After that, the run defense was susceptible to large gains on the ground. When Walker exited the game, the Texans only had five total rushing yards on three carries. Afterwards, the Texans running onslaught took shape, but it was primarily only in the 2nd quarter where Walker’s absence was felt due to replacements and out-of-position gap defenders.

Fun to hear a coach admit that "halftime adjustments" are more of a myth than reality. Instead you're adjusting any time your unit isn't on the field, which make long, sustained offensive drives all that more important. Not only gives the D a breather, but gives the DC time to review and adjust.

Here's the presser in written form, with comments from a few players: https://www.si.com/nfl/packers/here-s-w ... jb12mraha9
