I don’t think we need DBs. Defensively we are struggling to affect the QB from the pass rush.

I'm not concerned really with corners unless we can't stay healthy. That said, you can never have too many great DB's and if one worth the cost is available i'm not upset we pick up another.

As this team has been so far we need someone along that defensive front that can put pressure on the QB. We've had spurts of success but there are way too many clean pockets to throw from for opposing teams.

I'd still like a better LT but I know we're not trading for one of those. Too much in resources to bring in one you didn't develop thru the draft.

can't expect the DL to get pressure on every snap, and we've tried every combination of em, our innovative 5th man rush packages is how we get to the QB.

what we need is better coverage, and there are CB's available, no DT's.

I'd be speaking to NE Johnathon Jones, should be cheap or Horn, Ward, or even Reed today, did you watch Bullard toasted, roasted, and served up like thanksgiving day turkey?

The Packers defense, from an individual and collective analytical standpoint, don't seem to be winning much at the point of attack. However, the collective defense seems to be working just fine. As pointed out here, it's working. Maybe it's by design? Or maybe it's just luck?

I don't know if the pass rushers just all decided to take a step back this year or if Hafley is asking them to do something different. Historically, the talent is there. I'm not sure if the addition of a Landry or other talent-equal rusher will make much difference in this scheme.

Obviously, a player like Maxx Crosby would make a difference. I don't think the Packers are the type team to chase a player of his caliber at the deadline, though.

As far as the secondary, Hafley asks a lot from his cover corners. I think Nixon and Stokes are players you can "get by" with...until it's playoff time. Then they become liabilities. If there's an upgrade possibility, I'd definitely be interested in pursuing it.

If Jaycee Horn is available? Absolutely.
Kendall Fuller? Yep.
DJ Reed? You bet.
Greg Newsome II? That's a player I'd definitely take a chance on as a reclamation project.

I just don't trust either Nixon or Stokes in January. Maybe Valentine, if he ever sees the field again, can be that guy. Who knows?

It's more difficult to integrate a player into the secondary at this time of year. I agree, a pass rusher is our #1 need. A true speed rusher would move the needle immensely.

hard to integrate a youngster, true, but were talking about vets, a guy like Jones is walk on ready, specially in a man scheme, same with Reed, and some others, they've seen it all.

Seems obvious that Hafley wants our d line to play responsible, control there gaps versus just rushing blindly, thats bound to slow the pass rush, then on pure passing downs he mixes in deception and possibly a 5th rusher, basically it's worked well against the run, not as well with pass rush though.

I'd like to add both, but there are no reasonable DL available, and there are CB's, I'll take the budget alternative, thank you very much  :aok:

It seems every time I do see pressure from our guys up front, good things happen on the back end in terms of INT's. We need to hurry more throws because it seems every time we do, we force errant passes or turnovers.

The problem being, we don't generate that push consistently enough. No DB's can cover well or long enough when the QB's have nothing disrupting timing, footwork, etc. It's easy for even barely mediocre QB's to be successful under those circumstances in this league.

agreed, a team can never have to many CB's, Stokes and Nixon have played ok, same with Alexander, but this is going to keep getting tougher now, better teams, we've got to get Evan Williams back, Bullard looks like a leaky faucet in coverage, or at least did sunday

again I think it was a trade off, we needed to do better against the run, so Hafley wants gap control, but I wont argue we rank 30th in the league in Pass RWR, but have improved to 20th in Run Stop win rate, where we were border line worst in the league, agree the change affected our pass rush, thats if I'am right about Hafley adjustments, if so will another DL prospect actually help?

Gary is #6 in edge run stop WR, and TJ Slatoon is #9 with interior RSWR, I think this reflects Havley adjustments.

Thinking about where I would most like to add another impact player, honestly, it's LB for me, but more for next off-season than at the trade deadline.

You see what a playmaker like Edge Cooper at LB does for our defense. Now, add another such guy; double the playmaking.

I hope we don't get complacent and tell ourselves we're good at LB just because of Cooper and go EDGE/CB as we usually do. I hope we look to keep improving there, the way we did this past offseason at Safety, and be like SF with two studs like Kinlaw and Warner in the middle.

Meh. It’s been proven time and time again that in the playoffs the rules change for CBs. You can get grabby for free and refs are less likely to call it. Pass rushers in the playoffs though can completely carry a team through the playoffs.

Gute just snatched up a former 1st round ILB and handed him over to Campanile for finishing school.
There's no complacency in Titletown; rust never sleeps and neither does the Packers front office. 8-)

3 weeks ago we signed the kicker who just won us the last 2 games.

Yup, I saw that. Nice low-risk flyer, but I want to see bigger investment in LB, like another Day 1-2 pick, with the intent of having a Kinlaw/Warner-type duo at the position. I wouldn't count on getting more than depth, if that, out of Davis.

people have such a low opinion of Quay WAlker, he may not have the instincts, or coverage ability of Cooper, or even Wilson, but he's starting MLB, and right now we have 3 solid starters and McDuffie, did we sign this Davis? WAlker had 70 tackles in 6 games, he aint coming off the field

I expect and hope our 1st round pick is a CB or OL.

i still have hope for Walker. He has made plays in the past, so I know he can. He has physical build and skills to be everything you'd want from a stud LB. At times he seems to get caught, which I hope is just because he's thinking too much and once he gets it or just lets instincts take over he plays freely. My fear is he doesn't have those instincts so what we see is what we get. Though I've seen him better than he has been and certainly better than the prevailing perception, so for now, hope is winning out.

Saying he doesn't have the instincts of an average player like Wilson but he's still starting caliber is absurd. Instincts are everything at LB. It's like saying an RB with below average vision is starting caliber.

Walker at Wil or possibly Sam should be more than sufficient. Get him to a spot where he can run and chase and cover and he will be good. We misplayed another 1st round LB years ago and he was a fan favorite whipping boy for years.

We didn't misuse Hawk, we played him at Will by the same thinking as folks are saying Quay should play there: let him just flow to the ball and make plays. Barnett was the mike. Yet Hawk was never much of a playmaker in that role. Hawk was average, it is what it is.
