The Packers defense, from an individual and collective analytical standpoint, don't seem to be winning much at the point of attack. However, the collective defense seems to be working just fine. As pointed out here, it's working. Maybe it's by design? Or maybe it's just luck?

I don't know if the pass rushers just all decided to take a step back this year or if Hafley is asking them to do something different. Historically, the talent is there. I'm not sure if the addition of a Landry or other talent-equal rusher will make much difference in this scheme.

Obviously, a player like Maxx Crosby would make a difference. I don't think the Packers are the type team to chase a player of his caliber at the deadline, though.

As far as the secondary, Hafley asks a lot from his cover corners. I think Nixon and Stokes are players you can "get by" with...until it's playoff time. Then they become liabilities. If there's an upgrade possibility, I'd definitely be interested in pursuing it.

If Jaycee Horn is available? Absolutely.
Kendall Fuller? Yep.
DJ Reed? You bet.
Greg Newsome II? That's a player I'd definitely take a chance on as a reclamation project.

I just don't trust either Nixon or Stokes in January. Maybe Valentine, if he ever sees the field again, can be that guy. Who knows?
Meh. It’s been proven time and time again that in the playoffs the rules change for CBs. You can get grabby for free and refs are less likely to call it. Pass rushers in the playoffs though can completely carry a team through the playoffs.
Nixon got exposed again yesterday and it's not even January. Hard to put hands on the WR when he's trailing them by two yards.

Yeah, yeah...Jaire was out and he would have been on ARSB. Well, next go 'round Williams will be back for them and he'll be the one burning Nixon.

Nixon (and Stokes for that matter) is a coverage liability. When QBs are typically getting the ball out in 2.5 sec, signing a pass rusher won't matter. Upgrading at CB will.
I tried to get this across in the trade deadline thread, we have to do better in coverage because it is unrealistic to expect a 2 count pass rush every down, or for Haf to dial up a 5 man rush package, or for Evan Williams or McKinny to bail out these CB's.

If we see this, then we can be sure every DC can as well, and we'll continue to see these CB roasted the rest of the season

Okay how about addition through subtraction. Trade Wicks along with Dillard for some D. On the supposition that we have a packed receiver room and they might benefit by getting more reps. A little jolt might wake up the others.

Wicks has the worst hands. Somebody will still want him to get their QB a target. Somebody will always say they can fix him. And they might be able to. Somebody will have a spot for Dillard. Somebody is going to think I can save my job if I get our O moving somewhat.

Move them both for somebody who can help us on Defense.

Davante Adams had a horrible case of the dropsies in 2015. Horrible. Fans were saying "cut that guy" too.

I am absolutely not ready to cut ties with Wicks. The dude is too good at getting separation.

When you are a draft and develop team...you need to be comfortable with both the drafting and developing part.

But with Adams we didn't have 4 other WRs who could get open and a top TE.
Not that I think that this is going to happen but if we need some D and we can always use another player this might be a way to make a deal.

Only thing that would move the needle for me is a CB. Few out there, won’t be mad if we add a body there.

Marshon Lattimore.

Should Gutey go get him? Or be content with Stokes?

Mod edit: @RingoCStarrQB New thread combined with this thread. Not sure why you felt the need to start a new thread when this trade deadline thread was already active.

New personnel is not going to fix the problems that ail this team IMO.

Greg Newsome has been a named linked to GB that likely makes the most sense. Don't know what Cleveland would want for him.

Cleveland did exercise the 5th year option on Newsome so he will have a $13.4MM cap hit in 2025 but we also keep his rights for 2025.

Maybe a 3rd and Eric Stokes for Newsome? (Stokes would simply be a body with speed)

of course they will, teams add players all the time and eventually improve.

not sure what or who I'd trade for J C Horn, but I wouldn't get off the phone till I got a deal done, he's had some injuries, and plays on a defunct defense so his stats aren't great, but we need a man coverage CB, and he's about as good as they come, do it Guty

I don't think we can trade Dillard while he is on IR?

all the "contenders" are in a arms race currently with most making a move or two.

I guess we will see if Gutey considers us "contenders" because there certainly are a couple pieces out there that could help.

And to make things even easier, we have the cap space and the draft picks!

Dillard the OL is not on IR he just has only appeared on STs. I made the mistake earlier swapping the name Dillard for Dillon. Dillon the RB is on the IR.

more and more as this season plays out, Douglas had to really have pissed off the coaches to Guty because there is no other way to explain that trade.

Yeah I am in the camp that adding another player is not really going to do much. The defense is playing well, despite whatever issues people take at areas like CB or EDGE.

What is needed at this point is for the offense to put up the points to win winnable games. So what trade are you going to make there?

No team is trading away a starting-caliber OL, so forget about that. QB? Ha! Good one, Reptar. WR? No, we have guys, we just need them to play up to their ability. TE? No, Kraft is a stud, the other guys do their job well, plus Musgrave returns. RB? No, Jacobs is great, and if we want better than Wilson at RB2, I would just promote Brooks and relegate Wilson to 3DRB.

Just get healthy and play better.

The only thing I would trade for is a ST Coord who would elevate that unit to just not be a liability. That probably is not on the table, though.

Same with James Jones. His 2nd year was awful. I'm glad we stuck with him.
