I don't believe the FO has given up on contending. They are doing their usual two feet in the future stance. We've dropped an old player and his cap to get younger guys more snaps. Besides the FO isn't out there fighting. You can't tell me the team doesn't believe they can win. And we did pick up Jamin Davis, we might see him take Smith's slot. He might fit in better in this D than Smith.LombardiTime wrote: ↑05 Nov 2024 16:56I definitely agree the Packers should not do something just because all the other (or nearly all the other) top teams are doing it.Labrev wrote: ↑05 Nov 2024 16:20... so, NOT every team with more wins acquired a player.LombardiTime wrote: ↑05 Nov 2024 15:29Every team (other than the Eagles) that currently has a better record than your Green Bay Packers acquired a player
We shouldn't do something just because all the other top teams are doing it, if it does not make sense for *our* team to do it.
I also agree that it may not make sense in 2024 for the Packers to trade for a player (or players) leading up to the trade deadline and that it might make more sense for KC or Detroit or Washington or Buffalo or Minnesota or Pittsburgh or Baltimore to make such trades to make a SB run this season.
Indeed, I believe the Pack's inactivity at the trade deadline makes complete sense if those in charge of the Packers do not view the team to be legitimate SB contenders this season.
I'd even agree that being the only team with a record of 6-3 or better to trade away a player might make more sense than holding on to Preston Smith.
What I do not believe makes sense is that, unlike other teams including some that have enjoyed more recent success than the Packers, Green Bay never trades FOR players in the lead up to the trade deadline, while having no problem trading AWAY its own players.

Even at 6 and 3 we're a solid contender still. Going 13 and 4 and securing at least 1 home playoff game should be the primary goal now. Our away games versus Minnesota and Detroit will determine how good we really are. 13 and 4!!

I bring more articles, content, and news than almost any other poster, so don't talk to me about bringing articles.

All,
I am ANOTHER forum member who is getting VERY weary of the back and forth between members who claim to be adults but can't extend any grace to each other. I'm sick of it. Have endured this for several years.
When a member or visitor like me joins the forum and genuinely wants honest and fair info exchange, it needs to be out of good will or dropped. Period. If this forum can't manage this better, it forces me to wade through numerous replies (and sometimes pages) that makes it difficult to read what I want to read.
I've seen the membership decrease in this forum. JustJeff would not be pleased. I'm not issuing any threats and I really don't blame any singular persons. But I am saying that the value of the info-sharing is BARELY rising above the arguing and name-calling. Please, for the love of God, LET GO of the petty and childish activity.
Thanks for hearing me. I'm writing out of goodwill too. And I hope it's only received that way. This forum can and should be a 100% positive and encouraging experience, if only we will make it that way.
Truly,
Scott in NM (formerly from Marshfield)

None of our EDGE guys look comfortable in the 4-3. It has been not only the most disappointing part of the new defense, but also the most confusing, because I felt like most if not all would look better out of a three-point stance.

The truth is that Preston missed covering receivers downfield who made big plays on him.APB wrote: ↑06 Nov 2024 15:10This may have had a little something to do with pt 2 of your discontent.LombardiTime wrote: ↑05 Nov 2024 16:56I definitely agree the Packers should not do something just because all the other (or nearly all the other) top teams are doing it.

Couple things here. They are frequently matched up 4 DL against 5 OL + an RB/TE and that's a stiff test for any DL. Hafley seems to prefer getting "some" pressure from the 4 DL and dropping 7 into coverage. Packers lead the league in turnovers - and many of those INTs included pressure on the QB. So while sack/pressure numbers are not tops in league, the overall game results have been decent.
GB Sack numbers aren't horrible either, with 2024 GB defense sandwiched between SF and Pitt in sacks/game. ( !)

When Hafley came to GB he brought with him coach Vincent Oghobaase, the DL technician he worked with in SF and other places. I don't know how Vince teaches his pupils in terms of hand-fighting, having a rush plan, multiple moves etc but its not a surprise it takes some time to get used to a new defense. We should see an uptick in the 2nd half of the season, if not, then it points a finger more at the coaching. But let's keep this in perspective, Packers D is still ranked # 13 in the league in sack %, despite playing 3/9 games vs running QBs.

IT. IS. TIME
Fair enough. Although I would have liked to see better from the DE/EDGE position, I am also of the mind that DEs are the least important front-seven position; DTs and LBs do way more for the defense, IMO. The best path to the QB is straight ahead.BSA wrote: ↑08 Nov 2024 14:42Couple things here. They are frequently matched up 4 DL against 5 OL + an RB/TE and that's a stiff test for any DL.
