I'm surprised they let him have a ride home with the team.

:mob: :bears: :mob:

Making Flus do a press conference just before getting sacked was cruel and classless. Fitting of da Bears to fumble the firing of their coach.

Da Bears could've withstood the media being against the HC, but when I saw the player comments from the locker room, I knew it was over. You can lose popular support, but you can't lose your locker room.

The ruining of Caleb commences...

Post-thankgiving thankfulness:

As some may have heard, I became a Packers fan due to an exchange student year in Wisconsin in 1997. But there was some problem with my intended host family, and moving me to Illinois was a possibility. So, there was a chance I woulda been stuck in Chicago, and perhaps had become a.....Bears fan ( ).

Thank the old gods and the new that didn't happen! Da Bears have had measly seven >.500 seasons since 1997, zero SBs, and they still suck. The Packers have had 19 winning seasons and the one SB. :beer2:

That's beautiful
The bears keep drafting coach killers...and I suspect Caleb will kill one more bears coach before he moves on. I also think Ben Johnson and some other hot HC candidates will take a pass on the bears oppty - after watching that organizational failure play out in real time.

Ben Johnson knows the winning culture he is leaving.
Why on earth would he sign up to face them 2X per year with the dysfunctional, culture-less bears in a stacked NFC north ?

Ben Johnson is a perfect candidate for the Bears because he witnessed first hand going from a loser to a winner. Johnson started with Detroit in 2019. He saw the ineptness and he got promoted right as they were about to explode.

He could easily bring the tools he learned in Detroit to turn around the Bears. And the Bears would listen since he has a proven concept.

Mr. BSA :) that would seem obvious, the goal of every cord is to become a HC, right?

just like Detroit a few years back, it's possible for the Bears to right a sinking vessel, and Johnson seems like a perfect choice, he has experience coaching different positions, QB included, plus the Bears have some talent, good defense, this would seem a smart move for both parties.

I LOVE how da Bears fans are already locked in on one candidate, it'll make their heartbreak ever sweeter either if they get outbid for Johnson's services by another team, or if they actually get him, and find out first time HCs usually have to take their lumps while learning that role.

Reminds me of 2019 and how our fandom was convinced NE's Josh McDaniels (.377 winning % as HC) was such a PERFECT candidate for our HC that many couldn't even fathom any others. Oh, how we lamented missing out on Matt Patricia (.314 as HC). A shame we had to settle for some prissy LaFlair (.684 as HC).

Lots of attention on Ben Johnson, and for good reason.

The other one that might end up an even better coach is current Lions DC Aaron Glenn. Here's a very well written piece about Glenn from Dan Pompei at The Athletic. Its behind a paywall, but if you turn off javascript on your phone, you can then click it and read it.
(Alternatively, you can try pasting the article link into this paywall reader)

Bill Parcells is Aaron Glenn's mentor and has been grooming him to be an HC for a decade with help from Sean Payton too

typically, fans promote who the media promotes :idn: , which is a cord from a winning team, that's why fans liked McDonalds etc. my concern was that we get an offensive coach like Lafleur versus the Bear's choice of Eberflus, so for them to choose Johnson would be a step in the right direction, jmo

most Packer fans hate the Bears, I think it's ingrained, hell even genetic, if born near the Tundra it was considered treason ever to say anything nice about them :rotf:

Agreed- Ben is perfect for the bears

The missing piece in your comments is that Johnson's ascension came AFTER a change in ownership for the Lions. Sheila Ford Hamp took over for her Mom and completely changed the way the team was managed. She is brilliant, dedicated and put in the time to really learn the business
In order for that to happen in CHI, you have to either get the McCaskey's to sell or find a young, smart and driven McCaskey who is ready to ascend.
Ownership matters a lot for an HC's success and if Johnson has other offers, I can see him bypassing the bears because of it.

NYJ is gonna have a hard time securing a top HC too because of Woody Johnson

I’d say simply you can go from making maybe $1-1.5 million a year, to getting a $50 million guaranteed contract.

I know he passed last year, but &%$@ happens, chance for him and his kids and his grand kids to be financially set their whole lives.

Johnson will get the bag $$ regardless of where he signs. That's a given
But he has to be careful in choosing so that he has a fair shake at deploying his plan.
I don't believe the bears job is the best job for him and that's what I'll tell him when he calls me to ask for input.
