Can't say that when the comment was that it was awful even before the contract terms came out...
Palmy - "Very few have the ability to truly excel regardless of system. For many the system is the difference between being just a guy or an NFL starter. Fact is, everyone is talented at this level."

Post Lions, I am big time disappointed by the Oline. They went up against backups, 2nd and 3rd stringers who had never started a game. And they got dominated. Embarrassed. Even worse, the only player with any passion was Rhyan.

I posted this photo on another thread. But will put it here in response to your comment. I do agree that our OLine should've done better, especially early. But here is my point.TheSkeptic wrote: ↑06 Dec 2024 12:26Post Lions, I am big time disappointed by the Oline. They went up against backups, 2nd and 3rd stringers who had never started a game. Was the DLineman (illegally) crowding Myers and then anticipating our silent count to boot? These two factors would almost guarantee that he would be able to get pressure on Love, whether there was a blitz or not. So, that would speak to the performance of our entire OLine too. Your thoughts?
Come on down and try some of our delicious green chili! Best in the world!

This picture of a vintage lighter is part of Sean Rhyan's pregame ritual with his Father...helps him prepare for the battles ahead

Coming into their own.
I am really digging the performance and the attitude from the OL ! The reports on Sean Rhyan are that he's just brutalizing people
And then there's always this one, from our 7th round LT. Ha !

This was actually a significant reason why he fell to the 7th round. It was a "character flaw" during the draft process.

Yeah, Rhyan seems like the weakest link in pass pro, but he's still good enough at that and he is FUN in run blocking
Our OTs being this good on rookie contracts has to be similar to the QB on a rookie contract bargain, given there are two of them and OTs make bank.
One thing of note, and I will knock on wood, but one concern we had going into the year was OL depth and we basically haven't needed it. Myers missed one game. Everyone else has been healthy all year. THAT is a huge key to success and hopefully we keep it going. No clue what the plan would be if Walker or Tom misses time, especially while Morgan is still on IR

I think the bigger flaw was that he didn't seem devoted to football; like he was in it for the fun and the women and the partying. That's one of those things where coaching and team atmosphere CAN turn someone around (not always, but it can happen). I think going to a small market with an excellent OL coach and great team chemistry is why he's good. I think if he went to, say, the Giants he'd be on his way to washing out of the league by now.
With that stuff set aside, he was considered maybe a Day Two talent (borderline) with development upside. With that stuff considered from the media perspective, they figured him for a 4th/5th round guy. But I guess it was more extensive than we knew because the league valued him in the 7th when all was said and done.

Larry with some cutups on the Packers running long-developing "over" routes and the OL giving them enough time to make it work

I know he gets more help than Tom, but holy moly has Rasheed Walker been an amazing pick.
7th rounder as a LT is nuts already, but while paying a top QB, it helps that Walker has made $2,640,872. Total. In three years. His cap charge is lower than Ty'Ron Hopper's.

There is no doubt that Tom is elite. There is no doubt that Walker was a steal. But the Oline is still the weak link in the O. Too often we see the RB getting hit in the backfield as he takes the handoff. Too often it is 3rd and 2 and we don't see a push and the RB gets 1.
The weakest player is Ryhan but that is to be expected as it is his first year as a full time starter. He is an average NFL guard, at best. He is getting better and probably he will be slightly above average next season. But that is next season.
The biggest disappointment is Jenkins. Missed assignments and dumb penalties. He is not as good as his pre-injury reputation. He is massively overpaid but the Packers are stuck with him for 1 more season.
And then there is Myers. He is not a liability. He does not snap to ball over Love's head or in the dirt or make similar mistakes. But he is not as good as we expected either.
Unfortunately the Oline as a group is not as good as the individual players. They should be better as a group as they have been together long enough.
The big problem is lack of depth. Except for an injured 1st round pick rookie, there is none that is probably going to return next season. Monk 50-50. It is very possible that some of the problem is starters that were dinged up and there was no credible backup so they played hurt.
