Jaire Alexander To Have Surgery

.
When a player seeks a 2nd opinion, he doesn't mean from some dumbass wannabe on the internet
The first line therapy now days is non-surgical and there are a variety of new techniques employed that have shown a fair amount of success
Non-surgical is the preferred treatment if at all possible. So when fans suggest that they should have done surgery months ago- that's the opposite of the current thinking in the field. Especially when it comes to athletes
A real 2nd opinion involves:
Reviewing all of medical history, previous injuries, previous recovery times, rehab protocols etc
Examining all of the available images; from before the injury, directly after the injury and current imaging on the recovery process
The MD will meet with the patient, conduct a thorough exam and potentially order new tests/images
Then they'll confer with the Packers MDs who have the most info, review the treatment options and confer with the other MDs in their practice
And do you know why they still call it a "practice" ?
Because every injury is different, every patient is different and nobody has all the answers- and the right answers can be different for different patients.
So unless the internet wannabe's have directly participated in all of the above - they should be shunned as charlatans talking out of their asses

Yeah. Can Guty hope to get maybe two-thirds of a season from him, or roll the dice and hope for a full season? It seems unlikely.Pckfn23 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2025 16:25His cap hit rises from $23.98M in 2024 to $25.86M in 2025. There is a lot being made of the 2025 number, but it is not much more than the 2024 number. Here are the numbers for cutting Alexander this offseason:
2025 Dead Cap: $19,092,000
2025 Savings: $6,772,000
He will count an additional $16,150,000 in base salary, $650,000 in roster bonus, and $700,000 in workout bonus, so $17.5M in total if we don't cut or trade him before 2025.
Media is definitely running with the cut him story, but I am not sure it's a great move to do it this year. He definitely has to play and that is a HUGE question mark with him.
I recall when Jaire was drafted. Seemed like his body didn't fit the profile that GB preferred. The coverage skill was definitely there. But many of us wondered if he would be able to hold up. So, that's what it's boiling down to now. The question is if he has passed a threshold for how much missed time the Pack is willing to tolerate. I'm sure we won't know until FA season begins.

Would it alleviate the uncertainty for GB if they pick up a very good FA CB in the spring? I'm trying to consider the various variables here.
:-)
As for those who "talk out their [posteriors]" Andy Herman never made a dogmatic comment about Jaire staying or going. He simply pointed how how the contract lays out for the different scenarios. Nothing wrong with that. What I took from that is that the contract situation might be weighted against keeping Jaire, more than not. And that still isn't certain. Truth is we don't know until we know.

Corners like him don't grow on trees so I have a feeling Gute and company will hang onto him. But this injury has been frustrating to be sure. I'm sure Gute will address this position this offseason.
The Packers have plenty of cap space to accommodate Jaire's contract as it is written. The cap savings justification for moving on from him doesn't really stand up for me.
His injuries are a real concern but, as far as this latest knee issue, we don't know the circumstances surrounding his opting to initially forego surgery. Was it his decision based upon a recommendation from the medical staff...or against them? In any case, it seems reasonable for him to have opted to go the rehabilitation route regardless of what the medical staff recommended based upon past history with similar player injuries.
It happens.
Now, about the other injuries that have held him out the past several years. It seems the main issue was the shoulder. Was that a fluke? Was it avoidable? Is it something to cause concern going forward? These are all questions I'd want answers to before I made any decisions on his future with the team.
From a fan standpoint, it would appear to me everything Jaire has suffered through of late can be recovered from. Sure, he's had some bad luck but it's not like the continual soft tissue stuff we've seen with other players. Assuming Jaire's prognosis is for full recovery, I heartily and enthusiastically welcome him back in 2025. He's too good a player to walk away from because they're spooked by a couple bad luck but recoverable injuries or just to save what amounts to be a relatively insignificant sum in cap space.

makes no sense to me to move on from players like Jaire or Clark or others, we have been rebuilding, even so we are a few plays from being a 14-2 team, we need to add talent, not subtract from it, both phases of offense and defense took on a new identity this season, there are always growing pains when ya do that stuff, jmo.
I think you bring him back for 2025, limit his reps, and if he misses a lot of games again is gone spring 2026. Draft at least cbsAPB wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025 10:31The Packers have plenty of cap space to accommodate Jaire's contract as it is written. I was initially of the mind that, of course, bring Ja back, it's not like we have many guys to absorb the hit at CB.
But the $$ amount we will need to pay to keep him, not worth it, IMO. On-field play, sure, worth almost every penny. I have to say "almost" because he will at times get owned, and more pertinently as good as he is in coverage he is pretty unhelpful against the run.
But he just cannot stay on the field. I don't think this is a Bakhtiari situation of a bad injury that will keep coming back, I just think Ja is not built to play a full season. Our defense has already pretty much figured out how to live without him anyway.
Besides which, I feel like CB is a position that flames out pretty quick. They are really good in their youth and athletic prime, but then they go downhill really fast. It is a really tough position to stay good at for very long.
Not to mention, he can be a headcase. The Carolina thing. The weird IG post after last season ended where he sounded like he was leaving, then deleted it. It's just more reason why I wouldn't feel fully confident giving him the bag for another year.
And we are already paying a lot of money to a few guys on D, who arguably are not living up to their expectations.
Time to part ways. There will be plenty of FA CB options, plus there's always the draft.

I think CB FA is garbage. You’ll pay a premium to get the top guy. The draft is decent at CB but not as top heavy as it has been in the past. Last year was really the opportunity to get a good player when all the CBs fell for some reason.
My opinion is you try to get something out of him one more time. You have nothing else at CB. I doubt his trade value is anything more than a day 3 pick when it comes to his contract.
19M I’m dead cap is just too much for my liking. If he still can’t stay on the field next year then you move on for just $10M in dead cap.
