Denied the Bears from interviewing him, then do this. Pretty crappy by Jerry.

He moved on from them. Just a hunch.

From what I hear, it's equally about MM moving on from the Boys. Andrew Brandt (whom I consider credible) seems to think that McArthy has some (more than one) suitor.
My first thought was da Bears too!

Yeah the initial word was they wanted to keep MM, but now they are letting him go. Sounds like they couldn't come to an agreement.
Anyway, he can still audition for the Bears gig; it's not like they hired anyone yet. Only NE did and they were not going to hire anyone other than Vrabel.

I can just see it now. Deion will only come if Jones trades up to get Shadoo-doo Sanders. Cowboys trade Dak and 2 1sts to move up to 1 overall to take one of the worst college QB attitudes I have ever seen.

This. Jerry likes his football team as his toy. And he likes the game. But he hasn't prioritized getting a championship team ever. He's happy to win more often than not, have enough star power to promote his team, and have his relationships with his coaches/players.APB wrote: ↑14 Jan 2025 10:36Yes, but the media coverage and merch sales will go through the roof!lupedafiasco wrote: ↑14 Jan 2025 10:16I can just see it now. Am I the only one who thinks Jerry is a reasonably competent and largely pretty rational owner? McCarthy was a nice, non-flashy hire he made for them and got them in contention for a couple season before the wheels fell off this year. To the extent he seems to "meddle" in the team building, it does not seem to hurt them too much. They put some pretty good rosters together. I don't see this guy who mismanages the franchise like crazy the way that Woody Johnson or the McCaskeys do.

The lame duck coach thing is completely avoidable and is a huge distraction for the HC and franchise alike. There was no reason to get cute with it. Tried to nickel and dime McCarthy then forgot how leverage works.Labrev wrote: ↑14 Jan 2025 11:55Am I the only one who thinks Jerry is a reasonably competent and largely pretty rational owner? He does more than meddle; he’s the Owner/President/GM and his son is his right hand man. If that isn’t ownership meddling, I don’t know what is.Labrev wrote: ↑14 Jan 2025 11:55Am I the only one who thinks Jerry is a reasonably competent and largely pretty rational owner? To the point his GM decisions are hurting the team or not, I’ll just point to his playoff success over the past 2+ decades as the obvious answer.
I have had a front row seat to Jerry Jones and I agree that he is actually a good owner, and a great drafter actually, like top 5. He didn't used to be good, but now he is.Labrev wrote: ↑14 Jan 2025 11:55Am I the only one who thinks Jerry is a reasonably competent and largely pretty rational owner? I think where the Cowboys go wrong is that Jones is actually too loyal to both players and coaches (after famously being not loyal enough early on).
Dak is only good enough to win a SB if everything goes right, which it hasn't yet. Similarly, MMs scheme is inferior to the Shanahan/MLF stuff in the current era and can only win if he gets the right matchups in the playoffs. Cowboys can win if they catch good luck, but so far they haven't.
I am rooting for Prime Time to be their next HC. It will be very entertaining. Likely a 75% chance of a train wreck, but 25% chance of greatness. For their sake it is a good move because they can move on from Dak and the result will be that they either blow the whole thing up after a couple years or they finally get some success.
I really like Mike McCarthy to New Orleans. That makes sense to me more so than Chicago.

Cowboys are requesting to interview Saleh.

I'd much rather go to New Orleans if I am Mike. A team in obvious rebuild - so there is time and lower expectations. A friendlier division. Smaller market. And no risk of tarnishing a legacy by not going to Packers greatest and oldest rival.
