I know a lot of people will hate this take, but I'm still leaving the door slightly open that Malick can be our Franchise QB if Love doesn't progress in a positive manner this year.Cdragon wrote: ↑22 Jan 2025 07:02As I look at it the only real trade bait we have is Malik Willis. This is exactly the type of reclamation project Belichick would get for nothing, and dump after one year, for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd rounder. We paid a 7th for the guy. He showed he can play at the most important position and win games. There is one cheap year left for him, huge selling point. While back up QB is important, getting a stud corner or edge might put us over the top. GMs desperate to keep their jobs over pay. If he ends up as a star we'll probably be moving him to one of the many QB needy teams in the AFC and we won't see him often. Good or bad we can get maximum value for him instead of nothing. A first or even a high second can move us into position to get a stud.
Indy, Cleveland, Jets, Giants, Vegas are all in need. The Steelers only have, Reach for the Skylar Thompson, on contract at QB. We could move easily into the top 10 with their 1st pick.
This is a gamble, but you have to take chances in order to compete and win the . This is playing with house money.

This dude still have any juice?
Gotta admit, I don’t pay the Chargers much attention but if Mack is still a menace at Edge, could solve one problem.

He had a really high pff grade with 7 sacks and strong against the run. Dude can still play and would benefit to a rotation

He'd be nice to have sure, but I think we need to find an answer first. I don't think he's an answer at this stage. Rotation player, and a high level on, but they're place fillers for short term. I think we need to address with full timers and multiple positions. If there's money left for someone like him after we address some other stuff, sure.

I think Mack is still a very good player but doesnt offer up what we need. Hes basically Rashan Gary and LVN. He still dominates against the run and sets an edge but he doesnt have that speed off the edge anymore. We need a guy who can win fast off the edge. Someone that if the OT sets wrong hes just going to blow by him and get to the QB. Mack doesnt seem to have that kind of game anymore.
At least for what he would cost to get in here I should say. I would rather spend and get us a go to veteran pass catcher or younger faster edge.

If he came for not much money, sure. But I doubt that is going to be the case, so I'd rather spend that money on people peaking rather than not. It would be different if we were pretty set everywhere and just need to sprinkle in some high quality rotational players, but we're not.
I view Mack at this stage of his career in the same light as Julius Peppers at the relative same stage when he was signed by the Packers: a still highly capable veteran rotational piece who could provide a heckuva lot more than just a few plays on the field.
All the complaints about no leadership on this team yet every time a veteran name is brought up, be it Adams or Mack or whoever, it's always...nah, past his prime/not enough years left in the tank/doesn't provide elite production type responses.
I really don't understand some of you.

It wouldn't excite me but I could get behind it, which definitely makes it sound like something we'd do lol. I didn't watch LAC but what I have heard is good run defender, just okay pass-rusher. He is a better #2 than LVN/Enagbare so I could somewhat see the value in signing him. It would have to be a pretty modest deal for me to support it, but given his age, that is likely what it would be.

Yeah the inconsitency on "in-season complaints" vs "offseason desires" seem to always contradict.APB wrote: ↑22 Jan 2025 11:11I view Mack at this stage of his career in the same light as Julius Peppers at the relative same stage when he was signed by the Packers: a still highly capable veteran rotational piece who could provide a heckuva lot more than just a few plays on the field.

I alway laugh when we would hear complaints of our guys always being injury prone during the season but then read mock draft after mock draft of "X player was hurt which may mean he is available and we have to take a chance at the potential/value."
I don't either. In another thread I speculated how a veteran presence like Adams would be a good mentor in our WR room but was told it wasn't necessary. I firmly believe the lack of veteran leadership is missing on our roster.APB wrote: ↑22 Jan 2025 11:11I view Mack at this stage of his career in the same light as Julius Peppers at the relative same stage when he was signed by the Packers: a still highly capable veteran rotational piece who could provide a heckuva lot more than just a few plays on the field.

Mack would be an interesting acquisition but I don't know if Gute would pay him what he would want.

Mack sounds like he wants back to Chargers and they want him back so I doubt GB gets him without substantial money difference.

For the right I would kick the tires on pretty much any player.

Adding a player for trade consideration: WR Jerry Jeudy Browns. Former 1st round pick, produced 90 catches for over 1k yards last year with a QB carousel. Age 25. The Browns are in cap hell and almost need to laughably extend Deshaun Watson as the only way to get out of it. Jeudy as a post June 1 trade would clear some space and his contract would fit in well with GBs structure with a window through 2028.
I wouldn't mind sniffing around a number of veteran reclamation trades. Jahan Dotson, Treylon Burks, etc. Elijah Moore is someone linked to the Packers in the draft, he should be an UFA. Jeudy is a good one, though, given Cleveland's usual plight.
Read More. Post Less.
While you're at it, throw Jakobi Meyers into that mix. One year left on his deal in Vegas, I believe. Has produced everywhere he's gone.

I’d be onboard with Meyers - he’s the Raiders no. 1 after Bowers. I’d have to look deeper into Dotson, Burks and Moore. Aren’t they busts at this point?
I'm going to do the PH dot com thing...

All of those WRs listed aren’t better than what we have now. What’s the purpose in paying more for physically declining players?

I think the Julius Peppers mention is a great analogy. You beat me to the post. No reason to not take a look at least. He could be very effective in limited snaps. Like Peppers, Mack in his prime was a man among boys. He clearly can still be a factor even past his prime.APB wrote: ↑22 Jan 2025 11:11I view Mack at this stage of his career in the same light as Julius Peppers at the relative same stage when he was signed by the Packers: a still highly capable veteran rotational piece who could provide a heckuva lot more than just a few plays on the field.
