I was speaking in general terms and not specifically about Gute.Yoop wrote: ↑24 Jan 2025 13:08but do they actually reach? again Pugger unless we are drafting top 10, and even then, chances are there are more than just one BPA candidate, the grades are that close. for instance when we took Raji at the 9th slot, many said WR Crabtree was the BPA, two completely different positions,we were installing a new defensive scheme and needed DL players, so while the grades were close, our needs made the choice easier to make, and Raji was a stud till his rotator cuff injury, and CRabtree never became more than just a good receiver
B.J. Raji was the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2009 NFL draft by the Green Bay Packers. Clay Matthews III was also a first-round pick in 2009. Both Raji and Matthews were named to the All-Rookie Team in 2009, Crabtree didn't even receive an honorable mention

I mean, it depends on who is available, but I will say, I think that CB is our top need hands-down. An EDGE is certainly sensible and helps fulfill the same goal as a CB in that you are drafting a guy whose job is primarily to help your pass defense (they also help in the run, but that is the lesser of their roles).PackersMax12 wrote: ↑23 Jan 2025 13:42Who Should Packers Take In First Round?

But I think a new DL coach might do more for DE (and DT for that matter) than personnel additions. We actually have a lot of young guys with some talent: Brooks, Wyatt, LVN, Enagbare, Wooden, Cox, Mosby. If we can unlock and get a little more out of just a couple of those guys, our pass-rush can improve a lot. And then you do at least have Gary and Clark.
OTOH, the talent deficit at CB is way worse. I expect Jaire is on the outs. Stokes, pfft. I think Nixon is better than he gets credit for and is fine as a starting outside corner, and Valentine is also viable albeit a run liability.
Then it falls off a cliff. We do have Bullard for the slot, but then you have no one. CBs also get injured a lot.
And by all accounts, losing Ja really limited Haf's defense, because he no longer had a guy who could just cover his guy and be fine without help.
Jahde Barron looks like an attractive prospect. I think he has everything you look for at corner.

I don’t have any real evidence to support the notion but I think Kalen King is gonna surprise some people next TC.Labrev wrote: OTOH, the talent deficit at CB is way worse. I think he will too but if we learn anything from last year and how WR went we can’t just rely on guys taking a step if there is no answer present on the roster. CB needs to be heavily invested in. We are one injury away from probably having the worst CB crew in the league given that Alexander is probably fine.APB wrote: ↑24 Jan 2025 18:39I don’t have any real evidence to support the notion but I think Kalen King is gonna surprise some people next TC.Labrev wrote: OTOH, the talent deficit at CB is way worse. Cancelled by the forum elites.
Oh, I’m not saying they shouldn’t address the room. Not by a long shot. They definitely need to add to the CB room. I’m just saying I think King is gonna surprise a lot of people.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑24 Jan 2025 20:43I think he will too but if we learn anything from last year and how WR went we can’t just rely on guys taking a step if there is no answer present on the roster. The Packers need a CB, a WR and an Olineman in that order. It is way too early to be choosing a particular player for the #23 pick. In fact, even Gute won't know who he will pick until 20 or so other teams have already made their selection on April 24th.
Personally I would prefer if the Packers traded down into the 2nd round. Save that 7th round comp pick and trade up the other 7th, the 6th and the 5th to put all the draft picks in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds.
Oh, 1 more thing. Find a different long snapper among the UDFA's.

I'm actually at the point where I don't care what position we take, but for the love of god, could we please hit on this one and this player turn into a top 5 player at their position?
Amen. Position doesn't matter. Hitting on the pick matters. The only thing that matters is hitting the pick. Turning attention to shore up a position is worthless if the player we select sucks.
Yup. See 2015.
Would be nice if the pick both hit and didn't take 6 years to bear some fruit, too.
Everything okay personally?wallyuwl wrote: ↑27 Jan 2025 08:54Yup. See 2015.

Yes! And when you start to go back and pull every 1st round pick from the last 10 years for us, it gets pretty depressing. Hopefully we can turn that around, otherwise we're going to have to continue to live in Free Agency to stay competitive.
I think so. Pretty worn out, but that isn't too abnormal. From a football sense, I'm getting pretty tired of Gute and his bad picks.go pak go wrote: ↑27 Jan 2025 08:56Everything okay personally?

Just bad first round picks. Everything else he has done (day 2 and day 3 and FA) has been incredible. I truly believe the Eagles are the Packers for the exception that the Eagles get way more value out of round 1 with either trades or hits. And that is why they are going to the SB and we lost to them.wallyuwl wrote: ↑27 Jan 2025 09:38I think so. Pretty worn out, but that isn't too abnormal. ahhhhhhh, jmo, impossible, positions matter, ya can't field a defense minus CB and pass rushers, same with QB,WR, and RB on offense, if ya need those players they become a priority, and it's been this way for all teams since the 1970 mergers and expansion to more teams, and even more so since the addition of UFA, ya just can't load up on positions or keep these players since then
we draft DL hoping to increase pass rush because without that the odds of winning drop drastically, same with coverage, same with QB, WR, and we just witnessed how important a bell cow RB can be.
I remember hearing of G's or C's, or TE's etc. being the best at their position in many years in draft classes, and no one picked them top 10, BPA has with it discernment, how much am I willing to abandon obvious needs elsewhere

This is not another BPA vs Postional need arguement. This was a response to Acrobat's post.

I see a lot of DTs in the mocks, so if one of the top ones falls probably good value. There are several free agent options for CB. OL or Edge is possible. Either Texas WR Bond or Ohio State WR Egbuka will probably be there at GB pick.
sorry the near mention or insinuation that positions don't matter catches my attention, my bad , again this ain't the 30's through 60's era when a draft pick often retires 10 years later for the same team, now it's a mover league, and money talks, and teams lose stud key position players practically every yeargo pak go wrote: ↑27 Jan 2025 11:21not the point.Yoop wrote: ↑27 Jan 2025 10:43ahhhhhhh, jmo, impossible, positions matter, ya can't field a defense minus CB and pass rushers, same with QB,WR, and RB on offense, if ya need those players they become a priority, and it's been this way for all teams since the 1970 mergers and expansion to more teams, and even more so since the addition of UFA, ya just can't load up on positions or keep these players since then

I think DT, Edge Rusher, or CB will be our first round pick, we'll see, but Clark will need to be replaced soon, and this seems like a pretty good DT class.lake shark wrote: ↑27 Jan 2025 11:44I see a lot of DTs in the mocks, so if one of the top ones falls probably good value.
