2025 Combine

Post by Pckfn23 »

https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2025/0 ... s-to-know/

Notes from Brian Gutekunst's presser to open the Combine.
Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst will be answering questions from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Tuesday morning.

Here are the important things to know from Gutekunst’s press conference:

— On dealing with dead cap: “I think you’re always going to have a little bit of dead cap if you’re doing things properly.” Says dead cap — the money left over on the cap from releasing players in certain scenarios — is part of maximizing ability to win each year.

— On the versatility of the offensive line: “We feel really good about the flexibility of our guys…I feel really good about our group right now.” Wants players who can play multiple spots, as always.

— Gutekunst says the Packers are expecting Lukas Van Ness — a 2023 first-round pick — to take a “big jump” in 2025. Also said the Packers “need to affect the quarterback more in the front four.”

— Gutekunst confirmed the Packers were the team that proposed a ban on the “Tush Push” play.

— Gutekunst said that Christian Watson’s injury, which will force him to miss time to start the 2025 season, will create opportunities for other receivers already on the roster. Also mentioned the possibility of adding in free agency and the draft.

— Gutekunst said the front four pass-rush “has to get better” if the Packers want to accomplish their goals in 2025. Said he likes the group currently.

Nothing surprising but do agree with his dead cap comments.

It's the new world we live in the NFL. Personally I don't like it but just like everything...you have to leverage to make smart financial decisions. Three or 4 year contracts with a large signing bonus just makes more sense than a 1 or 2 year rental contract. Even if the player is only on the team for 1 or (typically 2) years.

As for Jaire, frankly the best decision for GB is to hold onto him. We own his rights and there is no significant roster bonus so we can take our time.

That means you can trade him ahead of the draft if a team throws a nice offer.

After the draft if a team didn't get the CB they wanted in the draft

Or during camp if a CB on another team goes down and there is a limited pool.

Also could simply mean Jaire is a Packer and if he shows up to TC and balls...you simply keep him.

The only real risk to GB is if Jaire holds out and doesn't participate which would then do more of a force on GB's hand.

Gutensheissenbumpt's approval rating has plummeted. He needs to hit grand slams, not foul balls.

please. There is no adjustment in his approval rating. Those who hate him have always hated him and will always hate the next guy.

Fan response is getting very, very predictable here. All I need to do is google on March 1 each year "who won the super bowl" and I can paint a picture of 90% of what this forum will say and who will say it.

wow your so enlightened great one :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: if there is one thing for sure, we like to hang the hate monitor on people who simply do not agree with some of the stuff our FO does, not everyone here GPG agree's with Guty, doesn't mean they hate him, and I'am in agreement with Ringo, talks cheap, and so far Guty has under performed with some position, maybe last season was acceptable to you and others, seems that way with all the excuses tossed around the last few weeks, that list guty ran off are his responsibilities, and they still linger

yoop I have been quite critical of Gute's moves and you know that. But I also get specific in his short falls.

First round he is bad. And he also traded Rodgers one year too late. I have said that over and over. Getting into specifics and critical judgement is fine. But just as important as critical judgement, you also need to look at what he has done well.

He is very good at FA - both top signings and diamonds in the rough. He is also pretty good at Day 2 and Day 3. He is good at getting competent players. Where he needs to improve to get to that next level is getting elite players in Rd 1 or at the least not having misses. We have too many misses. As a specific example, LVN cannot be outperformed by a mediocre 5th round pick like Enegbare has done in 2023 and 2024. I don't need LVN to be a top 20 pass rusher. But I do expect LVN to at least be a top 50 pass rusher by year 3.

haha, I was referring to your psychic abilities to know prior how everyone would react to FO decision making, people are no more predictable now than they were 17 years ago when this forum started, we know how others will react because we have so much history with each other :idn

I love that Guty uses UFA more than Ted, only way to build a modern team, IMO Guty has to use round one on more ready to transition players, and less raw low floor and projected high ceiling players, most have not and will never reach that projected ceiling

I wonder why he has so much confidence in LVN? Based on what? So far he has been Mike Mamula.

I agree. Got to remember that what else is he supposed to do in that situation. Talk bad about him? Also the entire group disappointed.

I think the optimism may lie in how bad of a job the brass feels Rebrovich did. Like, a decent position coach should get some decent production from him just based on his God-given talent.

LVN did play a bit better after we traded Smith. He still needs to take a significant step forward, though.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said he's offered a first-round pick for a player before, and it's on table again.

to bad our pick is slot 23, might take a lot more to land one of the studs in this article, but at least Guty isn't shying away, we'll see.

This DL class is deeeeep.

Harmon can move for a big. Some nice 10 yard splits

Wish Grant was a go today but whatever.

Grant
Nolan
Harmon would all look good in GB

Gonna focus on some later guys today.

Miller and Kerwin raved about Oregon lb Bassa. IQ leadership and instincts. Compared to him to Bobby Wagner. Looks like a decent athlete but could wear the green dot early. Interesting bc I don't want quay or edge having to think just frickin attack.

Like Danny Sturtsman also. Listened to his interview. Talked about leadership giving back and his dog ha.

Write this guy's name down somewhere. Screams Packers WR.

Scouting report kind of reads like Jordy Nelson and I saw some of Jordy in his game watching some highlights.

Agreed. I love Coop and Walker being SAM and WILL. I would love a smart guy rocking the middle and letting Coop and Walker just attack.

according to draft buzz Bryant is expected to go in 4th round, he's still raw and could use some technique refinement, and with that could become a X receiver, best in iso verts, has adequate speed, have to watch for him at the combine.
