I’d like to see a few more snaps and responsibilities from
Barnes before getting too excited here.
MLF also seems to really trust their TC outcomes of starters, so wouldn’t be surprised to see Martin come back sometime after the bye and take all those snaps back from Barnes.

Wow. Would have never guessed that.

Jared Cook 2 catches 21 yards. cap number = $9 Million
Robert Tonyan 5 catches 50 yards. cap number = $750k
season #s
Jared Cook 9/114/ 1 TD
Robert Tonyan 7/75/ 2 TD
Saints paid $ 8.25 M for 2 extra catches

IT. IS. TIME
We still should have resigned Cook rather than paying the big $ for sh*t players in Bennett and Graham. Looking back, that was a very, very big mistake.

How about when Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera left ............? I still have not gotten over that rotten GM-ship.
Why? Neither did squat after we dumped them. We didn't replace them with anything better, but we didn't lose anything.RingoCStarrQB wrote: ↑30 Sep 2020 19:13How about when Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera left ............? I still have not gotten over that rotten GM-ship.
RIP JustJeff
It amazes me how teams like the Saints play around with the cap. Seems like everybody on that team is one of the highest paid players in the league.
Brees has to be top 15 in QBs, Kamara top 4 or 5 at RB, Thomas is at least top 5 at WR, Cam Jordan is top 10 at DE. Throw in Cooks 9 million plus Sanders has to be getting about the same as Cook. And they always have extra money to play the free agent market. Somethings not right.

The Saints maneuvered to make this their all in year before likely rebuilding. Brees is the only player making more than 10mil.Christo wrote: ↑30 Sep 2020 22:17It amazes me how teams like the Saints play around with the cap. Next year they have 12 players making more than 10mil and are projected to be close to 80mil over the cap.

I hadn't even noticed that. Just looked at their 2021 contract rolls and...wow. This looks to be the last year, for a while anyway, we should expect them to compete for the conference crown. There's gonna be a major roster purging coming, especially if the cap does indeed shrink this coming year.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑01 Oct 2020 06:22The Saints maneuvered to make this their all in year before likely rebuilding. They're paying Taysom Hill 21 mill for 2 years. 16 million guaranteed. Cap is going down next year due to no fans in the stands.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑01 Oct 2020 06:22The Saints maneuvered to make this their all in year before likely rebuilding. The Saints missed their window. Their prime window was 2017/2018 and they know it.
2019 and 2020 is their last gasp with 2020 likely being the slow death. I do feel for them though because Covid hurt them hard with no home field advantage.
I think the Packers in 2019 are where the Saints are in 2017. I think our window is likely similar to theirs for the exception of we may be able to squeeze another year of effort beyond New Orleans.
I really think we gotta strike when the iron is hot and 2020, 2021 being our best shot years with 2022 and 2023 being marginal shots if we play it right.....but if we do play it right and go all in, 2024/2025 is time to meet our reality too.
Unless we just draft amazing.

I just think they know this is Brees last year and they set themselves up for a one year test run with Hill where either he busts and they get an early pick or he ends up being the future. There’s no way they pay Brees 30mil+ to throw checkdowns.APB wrote: ↑01 Oct 2020 07:32I hadn't even noticed that. Just looked at their 2021 contract rolls and...wow. I really feel this is our best shot in the next 3 years. We are gonna lose some really good players next offseason. I still think the best move is to keep Bak because he is the absolute best at his position but if we do that we really can’t afford anything else. Gutey has done a decent job pulling together a winning roster but I think he’s made a lot of poor decisions in terms of managing the cap.go pak go wrote: ↑01 Oct 2020 07:47The Saints missed their window. The moves that have killed "the cap" on this team has been Graham and Lowry. So far the tandem of Wagner/Turner has been earning their paycheck. Preston Smith is creeping to the edge of "oh boy".
But you nailed it. I too think this is our best shot because we have some contracts coming up and we just can't keep em all. Aaron Jones, Kevin King and Bakh. I want them all. The fortunate thing is Alexander is a first round pick so we could 5th year him and have him locked till 2023. So maybe we can play with King a little bit.
But why roster building is so hard and why it is always so easy to say "we neglect ILB or WR etc." is because the constant churn in roster means we have keep re-loading all the time. A deep position such as our CB group can go from deep to not so deep in one year based on losing one player.

Comparing apples and oranges. Different QBs and different offenses. Cook is a much better TE than Tonyan.
But at the same point you watch the talent of Sternberger and the smarts of Tonyan and the effort of both with the leadership of Lewis...this is a fun group. And a group that is only going to get better.williewasgreat wrote: ↑01 Oct 2020 08:25Comparing apples and oranges. Different QBs and different offenses. Cook is a much better TE than Tonyan.
I mean this TE group put out some BIG plays on Sunday. If we are being perfectly honest, our offense was operated with Lazard and the TE's on Sunday night.
And my gawd Lazard. Did you folks check out the block Lazard put on Cam Jordan (yes..THE Cam Jordan) on the Mercedes Lewis touchdown?!
