Hey Elgton.

Don't sign long term deals. I absolutely hate it when players do this. Like everyone knows the cap will raise through the years.

I doubt contracts specify anything about "what if" a player changes positions. Just shut up and play Packers football. :bkw:

It's certainly a gamble. In Jenkins case, he appears to be losing. In Jaire's case, he's come out a big winner.

Yeah.

I think Elgton's issue is he knows he will likely be cut in 2026 as there is $20 million in cash outlay and he doesn't like that he will be Center in 2025 which is a devalued position. My guess is Elgton is looking for a restructure or extension so Elgton can stay in Green Bay after 2025 and not be released into the wild with Center as his most recent resume bullet point.

The challenge for GB is if they want to absorb 3 high priced Olinemen in 2026 and beyond or do they want only 2 with Banks and Tom which is what they likely were planning on a month ago.

Jenkins has been here long enough to see how the organization does it’s aging players. Guards are paid more and the teams moving him as an aging player to C which he didn’t have a great game at last year (in a monsoon) for a player they paid that is significantly worse than him.

The writing is on the wall that he’s going to be cut next season so he doesn’t have any career stability which most players hate. They like the long term guarantees and Jenkins doesn’t have that. Just the way the Packers operate.

I think there is a happy medium here to add a short-term extension, reduce his cap numbers and give him stability for 2026 without making it a bad deal for the team.

Very interested how this plays out. Agreed that a 2 year extension (through 2028) is likely with 2028 being the dummy year but the Packers really don't like doing 3rd contracts. And history tells the Packers that 3rd contracts are usually not worth it.

On the other hand, there is a lot of historical evidence that Center is a position where players can play a long time and play effectively. This will be interesting.

Yup I was thinking just give him a fake extension to make him happy, use void years or whatever.

I say this mainly because we have no clear replacement at C and want to compete this year, otherwise I would not really bother doing anything. See if he caves and if not, see who rises to the occasion there. Rhyan didn't look too bad at C last year, Belton could slide in at RG, and maybe Monk is an option at either position.

Is it true that Elgton is about to turn 31? Man. I love the guy. But how is Guty gonna break the bank for him. He's really close to being on the wrong side of the age curve.

I didn't realize he was there yet either. I think he still has a number of really good years though, but seems closer to the end than the beginning. That's when you really have to scrutinize large investments. a lot of tackles are done in that 32-34 range. Centers I think play a little longer on average, so maybe this will be good for him and us? I guess if I had the crystal ball I'd be making more important decisions LOL
