Lafleur gets discredited for coach of the year bc he has rodgers, yet doesnt get credit for basically resurrecting Rodgers career this year. Sad, but not surprising.
I Do Not Hate Matt Lafleur
The Packers were thought to be lucky to be a 10 win team. Yet LaFleur gets no credit for overachieving in back-to-back years vs. the narrative. I don't get it, either.

MLF is getting mentioned now, finally; broadcasts teams are brining it up. He got a shout-out in Peter King's morning column today.
He's not considered for coach of the year (should have been right up there last year), but the longevity of his success is juuust getting to the point where national figures are starting to take notice.

Ron Rivera getting some mention now for COY. Between the cancer and Washington surging, he's likely to get a few votes.

I did seriously consider throwing some $$ on Aaron like 2 weeks ago, really wish I would have.
He was like +3000 before the season started.
But still, +400 right now, that isn't a bad bet at all.

The sportsbook where I went pre-season for some reason didn't have MVP, or else I would have. I did a Packers for the Over, the division, Packers for the conference, Packers for the SB, small dollar bet; would have thrown 10 on Rodgers for MVP and Z for DPOY, also. Oh well.
Already got the W/L over and the division
What do you use? I've never put money on sports, outside of a thing or 2 on Draftkings contests.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑14 Dec 2020 09:37The sportsbook where I went pre-season for some reason didn't have MVP, or else I would have. Also, I BELIEVE that MVP voting begins taking place after week 14. Like, it's not the deadline, but voters if they want to can start sending their votes in. I'm not sure if that changed when they moved to the big award night before the SB, but I know that used to be the case. If so, good time for Mahomes' 3-INT game.
I still think the biggest difference in the MVP race is the week where Mahomes went down the field and got the come-from-behind TD when the Chiefs were tested by the Raiders while Rodgers went down the field against the Colts, missed the TD, got the tying FG, and lost in OT. They were within a few hours of each other and resulted in different narratives emerging for the late season push for a time, delaying Rodgers' ascension to front-runner status or even Mahomes' only challenger (Wilson was still getting love back then)
Fair or unfair, given the other circumstances, the to front runners had opposite late-game results in highly-viewed games that mattered for seeding and playoffs.

No legal betting in MD yet (just passed as a ballot initiative though) so I drive into DC where they opened a William Hill Sportsbook in the unused box-office of the CapitalOne arena. Not sure if it's permanent or not. But I've driven in a few times this year; stopped though now that the pandemic is spiking again. Pretty long lines to get in... Gamblers aren't the most socially responsible group it seems.

If everything continues like it has, I almost think its more fair to have Mahomes and Rodgers share it. It's a slap in the face to whoever doesn't get it.
Let's just hope Mahomes throws 3 INTs every week from here on out and makes the decision easy.

That's not a bad solution. Favre split it with Barry Sanders in 1997. It's not like it counts less. I don't know why they don't do that more often or how that is even determined, but with where we are at right now, I still say it's tough titty for Mahomes. This is Rodgers year.

I mean it's not like they get in a room and decide. 50 people vote and if the vote results in a tie, then the award is split. That's not something voters can CHOOSE to do. It happens by chance or it doesn't, and it's relatively unlikely to happen by chance, which is why it doesn't happen often.NCF wrote: ↑14 Dec 2020 12:05That's not a bad solution. As for "fairness," who cares. Mahomes is young and awesome and will have plenty of cracks at this. They haven't given it to Rodgers or Brady or Manning every time each has had a great season. Great QBs are great for a long time and occasionally win MVPs

It's either a tie or it's not.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑14 Dec 2020 12:11I mean it's not like they get in a room and decide. 50 people vote and if the vote results in a tie, then the award is split. The problem with this award is nobody really says what the criteria are. Is it for the best player or the most valuable? IMO there is a difference. I can't think of another player in this league who is more valuable TO HIS TEAM than Rodgers is.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑14 Dec 2020 12:11I mean it's not like they get in a room and decide. 50 people vote and if the vote results in a tie, then the award is split. Rodgers is going to win it because he is the better store.
More fans like him. He is the aging vet who has won the hearts of everyone with Pat McAffee Tuesdays and the Packers have more fans.
The NFL MVP Award is a promotional award. It is better for the shield of Rodgers wins it.
He will win it if he keeps putting together games like yesterday.

I nominate this for Block of the Year
seriously, do you think the 50 sports writers that do the chosing give a hoot about that? I don't, and what fans want wont play into it either, the worst thing to ever happen was to allow fans a % of the vote for PB players, look at how screwed up that has become.go pak go wrote: ↑14 Dec 2020 13:20Rodgers is going to win it because he is the better store.
