Structure is everything. That's a pretty low signing bonus. Average is several million below what his supposed asking price was.

And now every Packer analyst out there is pissed. No deal with Jones was going to make anyone happy. But I'm reserving judgement until I see the full details.

Wow! At first glance that seems like overpayment, but I'll wait to reserve judgment until others who know more than me analyze it.

Wow, gotta say I’m happy with 4 for 48.

I can live with that for sure. Hope that comes with an Aaron Rodgers restructure!

Good job Gute being patient and getting the best deal we could.

But I can understand if he goes for a nice payday. The career of most RBs is short so if I were in his shoes and some team was gonna pay me $10+ million I wouldn't hesitate.
Yeah I wouldn't blame him either. And guys like that don't get where they are unless they are willing to repeatedly bet on themselves. However, the chances are higher than anyone wants to admit that if he leaves, he won't be nearly as effective as he was in GB and will get cut after a year. Because teams that give big money to RBs regret it like 95% of the time. And if he's one and done in a new location, it's unlikely he ever again sniffs even what we're offering him now.

But yeah $10m right now is hard to pass up.
blah, blah, blah, it's rumored he'll be offered 12 or more, and just a couple weeks ago I brought a list of over a half doz second contract RB's that excelled on second and 3rd contracts, so Jones could easily be another,.

if this was a normal year Guty would have a hard time not resigning a RB that just produced 3200 yrds and 29 TD's in the last 2 seasons, to you those stats don't seem to matter. :thwap:
Imo you should lighten up yoop. I have you on mute but every time I choose to display one of your replies to me, it's always vitriolic even in the case of pretty boring and reasonable posts by me like this one. I think you've let politics spill over into everything else.

I love Aaron Jones so I’m happy to have him back. Devil will be in the details. Only thing is that it makes that 2nd round selection for a RB when we already have an RB1 seem like it could have gone to help elsewhere but... :idn:

I guarantee that Dillion will have a big role in this offense as well. I expect to see both Jones and Dillon on the field at the same time. You people wanted a smaller slot receiver? Why not Jones? I expect him to line up there and other places even more this year with Dillon getting plenty of carries too.

Love Jamal too, but this pretty much guarantees he's out the door unless he gets no attention in free agency.

Yeah I also love Jamaal. Bet he is a patriot next year. It will be sweet to have jones and Dillon on the team, just hope we stick to using them even when it requires patience :)

Im happy for Aaron Jones. He is one of my favorite packers in a long time.

Woah. This was literally the LAST thing I expected to see today.

Aaron Jones is special. Really glad he is a Packer. Looks like we are going all in after all.

I think this will also have us NOT prioritize an offensive playmaker in the first two days of the draft.

This news makes me considerably more optimistic about next year, especially if Dillon is set to take over in Williams' role.

It will be curious to see the contract structure.

If it's a $13 million signing bonus, I have to imagine he will make VERY little in base salary in 2021 to keep his cap hit low.

My guess is it's something like this:

Year 1: $13 Signing Bonus (which is $5 million more than the tag Jones would get) plus $2 million base.
Year 2: $8 million base
Year 3: $10 million base
Year 4: $15 million base

So his cap hits would be roughly:

Year 1: $6.25 Million
Year 2: $11.25 Million
Year 3: $13.25 Million - Dead Cap of $6.5 Million
Year 4: $18.25 Million - Dead Cap of $3.25 Million

That's my guess.

Yup. I think we actually may have a shot now at being a legit contender. Our offense should really be expected to be a top offense again.

The pack love him and I'm happy he got paid. That fumble is still bugging him. Jones Dillon train will be nasty. Thunder and lightning 20 + TDS between them write it down. This is good. I dont care about 2024 right now
