Damn, that's a hefty contract for a very good young TE.
that's why I think Tonyan will have suitors. He's not the best receiving TE or the best blocking TE- but he is one of the few who can do both with equal aplomb. And that's what makes him a valuable piece for any offense.

Yes, but if we tender him, very possibly at 2nd round level, they may have to give him that contract plus a 2nd round pick. Which I think is unlikely.

Sure. So you slap the 2nd round tag on him to protect him. No one is going to pay him big money AND trade a 2nd.
Damn, people still handing out contracts like there salary cap going to 220.
That Barrett contract is even bad.
haha his production decline last season over 019 is almost as much as Preston, cept he's been a stud longer and had 19.5 two years ago, Barrett was one of the players I used to say sack counts in general took a dive in 2020.
he also had 4 in the play offs which did bring his total to 12, thats still a monster 3rd contract for a older vet imo.

Meh, Smith is only 25, already been better longer, and requires no draft compensation (other than maybe missing out on a comp pick).
Tonyan 27, had one flash in the pan season, a season where his QB had one of the best statistical seasons in NFL history, and would likely cost a 2nd round pick.
Hate to say it, but I'd almost be fine taking that 2nd round pick if we get him, just turn around and got get like Zack Ertz for a 4th.
Sucks to lose out on Bobby, hell of a guy, but I don't see any reason to put the 1st round tender on him. I think only like 4 TE's in NFL history have traded for a 2nd round pick.
