Tramon Williams retires - appreciation thread

It's so Tramon to announce his retirement on one of the busiest news days of the year, his birthday to boot. That timing ensures his retirement will fly under the radar, as did he from high school to the NFL. I think his career deserves a bit more appreciation than just a mention in the news thread... Hence this thread.

For a UDFA at a speed position to carve out 14 seasons and a Pro Bowl selection, that's quite something. Keeping Williams as the 6th CB and KR/PR was one of the very bestest moves TT ever made.

Not only great on the field, but Tramon was the kinda guy that would be on the top of my list of former players I'd invite to give a talk to the rookie class. He worked his butt off to get on the team and to stay on the team, and then to squeeze every ounce of talent he could, as long as he could. This team simply does not sign 35-year-olds. Except for Tramon.

The interception before halftime in 2010 against the Falcons is my all time favorite play from a Packers fan player.

I loved this guy on the team. The week prior sealing the game with a pick against the Eagles in the end zone is another one.

Just a likeable guy. Great player. Great career from a guy who literally clawed his way up from the bottom.

Setting that up that big play on the previous drive, huge Charles Woodson sack setting up a 3rd and very long, knocking them pretty much out of FG range. Tramon gets a bit burned, honestly, but amazing recovery and a bit under thrown, gets the pick in the end zone. Aaron drives them down for a quick TD, Atlanta in bit of quick panic mode, pushes harder than they need to, Tramon, honestly, game sealing pick 6 in the 2nd quarter.

loved TW, great press corner, played bigger then his size, real junk yard dog, tenacious, if he'd had Sam Shields speed he'd of been a PB every season, hope the best for him in his after ball live.

I'll always remember him covering Calvin Johnson and exceeding expectations. Don't know how he did it at 5'11". Sure he had help over the top, but so did every other CB that tried to cover Megatron.

Tramon was a true student of the game and he talked about what he learned from film study. Megatron was a long-strider and it took him time/space to get up to full speed. Tramon said that he could tell right away IF Calvin was going deep or not. And once he knew that - he could adjust his coverage accordingly, knowing he wouldn't get beat deep. After Tramon made those comments, the reporters asked MM about it in a presser and MM said he wished Tramon hadn't been quite so forthcoming about his film study. Hats off to Tramon Williams, heck of a player and an ever better human.

One of my favorite all time Packers players. And I'll always second-guess Pettine for not at least trying him against TB when the other guys kept repeatedly getting burned. Also, I hope he unretires so he can have one more season because I was going into this offseason thinking it would be nice if we could bring him back to our CB room for 2021. We already thought he was washed up once, in 2014, and he then went on to have several solid years after that, so I'm of the opinion we should have at least tried him out again this next year.

Also, I believe he graduated with an engineering degree, so that probably puts him in the top 1% of NFL players by IQ.

Man, I loved this dude playing for us. I wasn't a believer when we brought him back a few years ago, but he proved me wrong. He had plenty left in the tank and was getting more playing time than a lot of the guys on the roster. Williams was such a big part of that super bowl run... I'm not so sure we would have made it there without him.
