Fiasco Mock 5.0 TDN
Im using the TDN mock draft simulator. This will likely be my final mock. I havent put nearly as much time into the draft process that I used to. Ive been deployed twice in this last year and just havent had the time or resources for that matter with the worlds worst internet. Im hoping it will improve the draft experience for me as I know that names but have way less love/hate prospects so maybe this year I wont get so bent out of shape when the Packers pick someone that makes absolutely no sense. To me the way I look at it a scheme always takes 2 years to come together, especially if the offseason is limited again. Get your defensive rookies now to grow into a scheme so that 2nd year jump in scheme is in line with 2nd year jump with the players. The team also took a ton of offensive players last draft and they finished best in the league. Its the defense that needs work.
Round 1:
Jamin Davis ILB Kentucky
There were some pretty good options here at 29 and honestly the draft kind of went the way I expect it to outside of 2 running backs going before us. The real decision for me was between Davis, Christian Barmore, and Terrance Marshall. I really wanted Barmore but I felt like Davis is that special player that can be everywhere in the middle of your defense. We already have a ton of speed with Savage and Amos but we lack speed at LB and I wasnt all that impressed with Barnes or Martin. Davis has the ability to cover pretty well do to some safety like makeup speed and against the run I think theres some work to do but this defense from what IVe read wants to keep their linebackers clean. If they do that Davis will be a massive playmaker shutting down any runs going outside and can beat lineman to their spot. Burks is in his last year, Summers is a year out and hasnt proved anything, Barnes is an ERFA, and Martin hasnt proved anything outside of camp hype. The Packers like to draft for the next year and I think this can fit that desire but I also see it as a huge upgrade now.
Round 2:
Asante Samuel Jr CB FSU
Again some really good options. Jaylen Mayfield was there which I think would be huge towards getting some cap relief getting rid of Turner a year from now and would help now if Bak wasnt ready. Amon-Ra St.Brown was here as well which I think would be a steal but the biggest robbery was getting Samuel here. Everyone knows Im big on Samual. He was a 1st round pick in my first mock this offseason and I have loved his game. Feisty, aggressive, quick, good ball skills, sticky, good technique, not an elite athlete or great size though. You could play him as the nickel guy now, groom him for a spot outside maybe a year from now when we finally exile Pan fried noodles from the league. Sullivan was ok last year and really good as a rookie but he has his limitations. This would be a huge upgrade I think and give you a good pair of CBs for years to come and just help King at all costs this season.
Round 3:
Alim McNeil DT NC St
Without the ability to trade without paying I had to stay here but I would have traded up and taken St.Brown who lasted until 78. I would have made the move with any team willing to make it happen from 63 until he was picked. This was an easy pick for me I kind of think might be unrealistic considering hes probably the top true NT. His testing numbers were really impressive for a NT as was expected considering not so long ago in HS he was a RB/LB. If he was the pick you let him eat the space, have Clark attack and disrupt and keep the LBs clean. I think this really makes the interior of our DL a strength of the team. Tufele was also available which I think at this point is a little more realistic and I also think is a good pick.
Round 4a:
Cade Johnson WR SD St
This is a slot receiver who offers value as a returner as well. This guy dominated his level of competition. He put up decent numbers at his pro day. He had the best grades for WRs at the senior bowl according to PFF. I like this value for a slot receiver this offense wont use much but can help as a returner on STs. Hes a good playmaker and does well in space. He fits as that gadget type guy who can work in motion and get YAC.
Round 4b:
Cameron Sample Edge Tulane
Sample is a beast. People talk about Tulane and only talk about Collins but I thought the guy who really jumped out was Sample. Hes big edge guy. Weighed in at his pro day at 267 but was playing mid 270s. He doesnt win with speed but has a nasty bull rush and sets the edge well. I think you could really develop this guy into a niche role of playing the run and collapsing the pocket. He will never be a huge stats guy but his game will enable other players. Hes no Brandon Graham but I think thats what he could be at his best. Theres no way Preston Smith stays on the roster at 20 million as a 3rd pass rusher. Getting someone ready now makes a lot of sense.
Round 5a:
Javian Hawkins RB Lousiville
I really like Hawkins. Hes on the smaller size but you already have a banger in Dillon. Hawkins doesnt need to be anything more than a guy who can come in and play. Maybe develop him to be a Jones replacement in 2 years. Hawkins is a dynamic back with explosion and play making ability. We need a 3rd back now who can develop to potentially be a #2 to Dillon post Jones. I can see Hawkins perfectly playing that role. By the time he needs to play he should have developed some pass protection skills which right now are non existent.
Round 5b:
Dan Moore Jr OT Texas A&M
Really experienced tackle here in Moore. Has all the physical traits you want from an OT with good length and weight. He still needs work. I dont think theres a ton of upside here for him to be a starter but I think theres a solid floor to have a decent backup swing tackle to play in a pinch. TDN claims he fits best in ZBS. Last season we went with 3 interior guys and we still have Njiman but I think adding a developmental OT is crucial this offseason especially if Bak reinjurs his knee or isnt ready to go.
Round 6a:
Ihmir Smith Marsette WR Iowa
ISM should be long gone IMO but hes here so we take him. I think theres a lot of versatility in this player. He offers a lot of value as a returner being one of the best returners in this class. Hes a very smooth route runner with some build up speed. Hes really thin and needs to put on some muscle but he should offer a ton of value as a gunner on punt coverage and on the kick coverage team. Honest to god this guy reminds me of Trevor Davis. Physical traits are similar, good ST value, some upside as a legitimate deep threat. I like this guy but think his value is late 4th early 5th.
Round 6b:
Shakur Brown CB Mich St
This was an easy pick for me. This is a high upside pick that has a ton of bust potential. He checked in at 5'9 and ran an awful 4.61 40 but the kicker is he has 7 interception on 79 targets. Sample size is incredibly small as well as his stature but this could be oe of those players whos just a gamer. Casey Hayward was like that although was better physically. If it doesnt work out youre out a compensatory 6th round pick.
Round 7:
Luke Farrell TE OSU
Big TE who has embraced the role as a blocking only TE. He should probably be a UDFA but I'd take him to guarantee his spot here. Would be a good player to replace Lewis a year from now but also learn from him to build on his strength.

Okay. A little ridiculous nobody has commented this.
Another great mock. You can tell there is a lot of group think happening here. Basically we are all going for the same type and same positions in the early rounds and even the same Day 3 guys.
Starting to look like we are going to have a lot of options at ILB if we want to go that route. I too really like Davis. I would be absolutely shocked if we go ILB before Day 3 because we never do.
I like that you like Javian Hawkins. I too really like him and would love him as a day 3 pick for the Packers.

Sorry i read yesterday and didnt comment. I dont dislike any player. A few I have been high on for along time.
At this point I need to know who is on the board whem we pick at 29. I like davis but I'm sure there is a few guys I like more there. Not a bad pick just preference for me
No prob with this group

Yeah, that is a good way to look at it. Looking back to a guy like Kenny Clark, he had almost zero impact September and October, started seeing the field more in November, became good pretty quick in December and then was actually a force in the play-offs, particularly against Dallas. I could see this going that way. A rookie LB is going to take his lumps, but if the instincts are there, things can click pretty quickly.lupedafiasco wrote: ↑08 Apr 2021 00:28The Packers like to draft for the next year and I think this can fit that desire but I also see it as a huge upgrade now.

Or db or wr or ot. All is true. The 1st quarter is ok. Playoffs is time to shine. Not that it has to be a OL but both green bay and TB won bowls with rookie RTs. Wirfs was struggling early then went on a crazy second half run. BB was a monster down the stretch for us. Point being. Great point these guys will be late season upgrades to a strong roster.

Woah! I swear I commented, which is the only reason I hadn’t jumped back in.
I’m struggling with Jamin Davis in round one. But I can’t tell if it’s because I personally don’t like the value or if it’s because I feel that the Packers definitely wouldn’t like the value. I dunno.
Day 2 and early Day 3 I adore. I’ma huge McNeal fan especially.
I’ll have to look more into the later rounds guys

I have wanted an athletic LB for years. Pretty much since I saw how the 49ers could use Willis and Bowman in a nickel defense and still shut down the run because they were so good at ILB. We kind of saw some of that this year out of the Buccs with David and White how their athletic and dominant LB play really carried their team. Its not like the Harbaugh 49ers or Buccs had a great secondary but they could get away with a lot because the speed and playmaking of LBs. I have wanted that for years.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑10 Apr 2021 11:31Woah! I swear I commented, which is the only reason I hadn’t jumped back in.

I would really suggest looking into Cade Johnson. I havent seen him talked about much as a slot prospect but hes really good I think.

Oh I LIKE Cade Johnson. I don’t know if he’ll ever be A DUDE but I also think he’ll be in the league for a long time
I’m just wondering, like, the value added of Davis versus say, Derrick Barnes two rounds later, is difficult for me.

I'm with you on this. I am cautiously optimistic for a Barnes/Martin duo, so it's not an urgent need in my eyes, but I am not going to complain if we add a guy who can be a stud. I hadn't heard of Davis 'til now but I am intrigued by the skill-set. That, plus DL and CB help in Day 2, and some guys to give us some depth around the offense with our mids would make me a happy camper. =]lupedafiasco wrote: ↑10 Apr 2021 17:13I have wanted an athletic LB for years.
