Been thinking about it and I guess the issue I have with Q. Meinerz (via a trade back into mid-round 2 or at our late second round slot) is that I'm not sure I'd want him to be a Day One starter, but we'd have to draft him at a range where I'd expect a C to be a Day One starter. Like, there are guys who will go in rounds 5 or 6 that are more pro ready, while Meinerz has a much higher ceiling.
But it's hard to get excited about a small school gem who hasn't played football in over a year with the exception of flashing Senior Bowl dominance when we would be looking for someone who might compete for the position from the jump. I guess having a mediocre starter like Patrick for the position helps. But I dunno. I'd just much rather Drew Dalman in the 4th, Drake Jackson in the 5th, or Jimmy Morrissey in the 6th.

Wonder if we'll get to see a Mac Jones green room slide. Maybe a Caleb Fairley. Maybe Rousseau having to wait until Day Two.
I love a good green room slide. Used to have a knack for picking them, too (Rodgers, Cobb, and Lacy, I think, were all 'last guy left in the green room' their years)
This is normal "Draft Chatter", but supposedly Rousseau has been told be a few teams they'll take him in the 1st if he's there. But how many other players have gotten that assurance over the years?YoHoChecko wrote: ↑23 Apr 2021 15:43Wonder if we'll get to see a Mac Jones green room slide. Maybe a Caleb Fairley. A reminder, your favorite team does not have your favorite player on their draft board.

that's good. I do think he's got a pretty good chance. It's tough to imagine how these guys will be stacked since it will be so team-specific. Not often you have a position group where the top 8 guys are all probably within an eyelash of each other, depending on what you want... and none are sure fire types.

I just hope Gutey has his A-Game ready on Thursday. I am sure Aaron does as well.
trend line: the top ranked WR's in this class are much lighter weight than previous years

Bill Huber + scout look at who is likely available at 29 across multiple positions. Here are the CB comments below
https://www.si.com/nfl/packers/news/who ... kers-at-29
Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech: I would be surprised if he’s there at 29, even with everything. He’ll be fine. (Note: Farley is a question mark after a second back surgery.)
Greg Newsome, CB, Northwestern: I think he will be there. There’s definitely question marks on his medicals. He missed a number of games in every year across three years.
Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky: I think he will be there.
Eric Stokes and Tyson Campbell, CBs, Georgia: I think they will be there.
Asante Samuel, CB, Florida State: I think he will be there, as well.

I think Joseph, Stokes, Campbell, and Samuel will be there at 29, too. Because they’re not likely worth being picked at 29.BSA wrote: ↑24 Apr 2021 16:49Bill Huber + scout look at who is likely available at 29 across multiple positions. Here are the CB comments below

Living in the Ravens area, it has occurred to me that after the Orlando Brown trade, the Ravens are looking for a C, a long-term answer at RT, a DT, and a WR this year (in addition to probably an edge) and they pick within a couple picks of us in most rounds. Plus we have their old personnel chief on staff. Going to be a lot of competition for the same types of players between these two squads. Something to watch.
Here's McGinn scout comments on DT Jay Tufele
Jay Tufele, USC (6-foot-2, 305, 5.01, Round 3):
From Salt Lake City, Tufele redshirted in 2017, started 18 of 25 games in 2018 and ’19 and opted out in ’20.
“He’s legit,” one scout said. “He’s got size and strength to hold the point. Two-down player. Stays square. He’ll be your fourth defensive tackle. Needs to work on pass rush. The more you watch, the more you like this guy and admire how he plays. He’s real good stopping the run.”
Played 3-technique, but some teams feel he can also handle the 1-technique.
“With this list, it wouldn’t surprise me if he went in the third round,” said a second scout. “He ran well and benched 30 (reps).”
Finished with 65 tackles (11 for loss) and 7½ sacks.
“Inconsistent guy,” a third scout said. “He flashes. Jumps out of gaps. Lacks body control. Gets moved around a lot.”

Former Packers QB JT O'Sullivan with pretty hot ranking of the top QBs in the draft based on film alone...
1) Justin Fields
2) Trevor Lawrence
3) Trey Lance
4) Zach Wilson
5) Kellen Mond
6) Mac Jones
7) Davis Mills
8) Kyle Trask
Also could explain the 49ers logic to pay a crapton to move up to 3rd overall. If they have, say, Fields ranked as the best rated QB, they can bank on the Bengals and the Jets being stuck with Lawrence and Wilson due to all the hype, and thus SF could get their preferred QB at 3.

Keep a hold on that Herman Tweet and see what happens. Has Herman figured out Guty?YoHoChecko wrote: ↑25 Apr 2021 12:13The position breakdown seems more likely to indicate there is no position preference than to indicate there is a preference and it is these five positions.
I want to see if another writer figured out Guty. That said, I forget who it was, but one writer said that Guty is likely to draft at the position with the highest paid player closest to the end of his contract. In this case, that would be T David Bahktiari. So that would mean we draft a T at #1. I'm not sure if it counts if we trade back or not.
I'm not an expert at all. But the one thing that I think I'm hearing from the chatter here and other places, is that this might not be the draft that is best for the Packers at the current slot. In other words, underwhelming. It isn't that quality guys aren't available. But which quality guys are truly worthy of a round 1 selection that meet our highest needs? Or, who might be a potentially elite player that would motivate us to hold our spot? If my truly amateurish opinion had to pick, I think that Guty would trade back and pick a good guy at the need (CB, OL, or DL) in round 2.
Come on down and try some of our delicious green chili! Best in the world!

Ok, so think about this: 13 of the past 16 "first picks" takes us back to 2005
So it starts with Rodgers.
So 2 QBs were taken--Rodgers and Love
2 OTs were taken--Bulaga and Sherrod
3 EDGEs were taken--Datone Jones, Nick Perry, and Rashaan Gary
3 DTs were taken--Justin Harrell, BJ Raji, and Kenny Clark
3 CBs were taken--Randall, Alexander, King
1 LB (Hawk)
1 WR (Jordy)
1 S (HaHa)
So you're telling me that taking 2 OTs in the past 16 years is significantly different from taking 1 WR? That taking 2 QBs makes them a more common first-round selection than the 1 safety?
Taking 16 picks that break down by position into 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1, 1 does not indicate ANY pattern. If you want to group defensive front 7 and say there have been 6 of those, then you can point to that and say TT and Gutey like to build in the trenches. But considering that you have 3 DBs, plus the second-pick commitment at that position, that would be rather erroneous, as well.
Grouping 13 of these 16 picks into some 5-poisiton "likely pick" scenario is statistically irrelevant.

YoHo just said we are taking a kicker with our first pick. I read it, you read it. That's totally what he meant.

well we just made Bak the highest paid LT in the league, now we may take a tackle but it wont have anything to do with Bak, other then He might miss a couple games because of the acl, but he's got 3 or 4 years left on his currant deal
another mock with us taking Jamin Davis, ILB Kentucky, a month ago he's a mid to late 2nd round prospect, 2 weeks ago he's a mid to late 30 slot guy, now he's a first round prospect and some have him ahead of Zavon Collins, he's got the range and instincts teams want from the ILB position.
