The Packers Players Theatre proudly presents.... The Old Man and the Draft - The Bob McGinn Story. A story about an NFL analyst who rises to prominence and then tumbles into senility and bad takes, and is cranky to boot.
You'll laugh! You'll cry! You'll wish we traded up or down!
Musical and "On Ice" versions are in the works.

Bob McGinn never met a GM he agreed with, if only GM's had time to spend with Bob and learn some of his time tested secrets on team building maybe they would keep there jobs after initial contract parameters
late news, the Packers are feeling up possible trade partners to maneuver up or down the board to position themselves to take several prospects they've shown interest in, the names of these players are top secret at this time, further information is on the horizon

I did enjoy Gute's presser - handled the needling naglers with aplomb
And he also re-iterated how Ron Wolf beat it into their young minds about "not drafting little people when you play in Green Bay WI"

I have a feeling that due to the lack of access to personnel the draftniks are going to be WAY off on prospect "rankings," especially after round 1. This will then lead the consistently cynical to claim how poorly we did drafting as they are basing their own rankings off of draftnik rankings. I could see us taking a player who the draftniks sees as only a late 2nd round guy and hear the screams of "REACH" and "FIRE!" It's going to be SOOO much fun...

So who is worth trading up for in your eyes?
Who is worth offering our 1 & 2 for they start slipping around 15 or whatever.
1 & 3, late teens early 20's.
1 & 4, around like 22-25.
What if there is a Chase, Waddle or Smith sitting there around 13, 14, 15.
Christian Barmore might be worth a 1 and 3 if he is sitting there, I think he is an impressive big man.
Deep 1st round CB class, but Newsome or Farley worth trading up to around 20 to get?

I'd say anyone we can get who could be a day one starter on defense would be good. DE, ILB, CB...maaaybe a WR but that's it.
Us reads viewers a fur. Thats guys a weeks shared reds.
Never forget where you came from....

BF, that's the question I've been struggling with. I can't pick out who might be there that the Packers would want. I've got a trade setup for us to go to 21, but now I don't know who since more info on Farley's condition came back. I don't think they go up for Newsome and I don't think Chase/Waddle/Smith fall enough. Surtain could be an option in the teens if we go that high. As could Vera-Tucker or Horn. But I don't think we trade up to the teens. 21 or 24 seem like good bets.

I am absolutely not trading up for Barmore.
I would give a 1 and 3 to go get Newsome, I think. It's tough because I LOVE the Day Two value this year, as always, and kinda hate the pick 29 value unless someone falls. So I want to see us move, and I tend to think back. But Newsome is definitely the last of a tier at a need position and can genuinely play inside or out easily. If he or Farley are falling, at the very least we'd likely need to usurp the Saints right in front of us to get one of them.
I won't even let myself consider a top-3 WR falling far enough to get us there. If that happens, I can't say I'd be upset with a move up; but it would also make the rest of the draft a bit less awesome to take in.
I think if we want Elijah Moore or Rashod Bateman, we'd have to move up a smidge, also. Probably ahead of the Ravens, for sure, but possibly as much as 22 or 23 in case the Titans or Jets see value there.
It's tough to envision moving up more than a slot or two (like throwing a 4th to jump the Ravens or Saints) in a draft that is considered so deep, though; with a tricky salary cap, a need for cheap labor, and a possible roster re-load coming in 2 years. Last year and this year's drafts will make up the young core of the next phase in Packer football, as they hit years 3 and 4. I'm anxious about thinning the haul too drastically.

Not sure if I like any of the CBs other than Surtain enough to trade up, might just see who all falls to 29.
I am willing to bet Gute isn’t thinking that way, lol.
I think I could definitely get behind a 1 and a 3 to go get Barmore. DL class at the top is super thin, maybe only option to get someone with real potential at the position. The guy is ideal size, explosive athlete, very productive. I think he’s gunna be a stud.

I mean he is a very young, traitsy defensive front 7 player whose biggest value lies in his upside, so he fits the team trends to a tee. I'm not saying it won't happen.
I just don't think there's a DL in this draft worth more than one pick and I like a TON of DL in the second through fourth at that value, rather than moving up for a guy whose value is inflated by a lack of depth at the top of the position in this draft.

WHATTTTTTTTT? why would you move up for a DT that barely has a 1st round grade? and gets that slotting because he's the best of a very weak DT draft class at the top, sure I bet a couple of DT's go round one, but thats because GM's are forced to reach for talent at that position every year, this is a good year to let the talent come to you concerning DT, we can get one just as ready to play in the 3rd round, Barmore and that alphebet kid will be no more then rotating breather subs year one, mark my words.

lots of alphabeters, PFF has Barmore slotted #15 I think the only one graded first round, he had one excellent game in 3 years, I think we agree, where better off waiting till the 2nd or later to take a DT.YoHoChecko wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021 13:49I'm assuming you mean Levi Onwuzurike, but you could probably also be referring to Osa Odighizuwa, who I love, or Marlon Tuipulotu
It's hard to guess the direction we'll go round one, I like those two later first tackles Radunz and Jenkins, both sound like walk ons.
I'am really warming up to Elijah Moore, mostly a slot gadget receiver, but now some think he could excel any where, unstoppable at the los is a comment that jumps out to me, the best way to beat a pass rush is to get the ball out quickly, and Moore seems like a guy that could get separation quick.
Newsome is slotted early 20's, injury's and all I'd move up some to get him.
others I like and might move for are Z Collins, R Bateman.
I think we can sit pat and take A Samuels, J. Davis.
I'am so far behind researching the players this year, I'll probably add to these list in the next day or so.
Yeah... I fully assume "expert" big boards to be wrong to a comical degree. I mean, even the teams don't have all the info they'd want (and in normal years they still miss on picks).Pckfn23 wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021 10:07I have a feeling that due to the lack of access to personnel the draftniks are going to be WAY off on prospect "rankings," especially after round 1. At least in usual years fans can have plenty of recent tape to watch and easily comparable combine results. Since film is the most important eval tool, at least those few draftniks who bother watching tape can make educated guesses. Now you've only had a few games in a weird season, and many opted out of even those. I'd hate to be working in the mock draft industry this year... Draftniks will never have the medicals, interviews and character evals, and that causes a lot of error since we'll never know which prospects are off boards or severely downgraded due to that.

A) Gotta get out of that line of thinking about where guys are slotted based off a yahoo ranking. That clearly means nothing in the NFL, especially with no combine, and I also think since Mayock left the broadcast booth. He was very well connected and would kind of help push the general consensus.Yoop wrote: ↑27 Apr 2021 13:46HATTTTTTTTT? why would you move up for a DT that barely has a 1st round grade? and gets that slotting because he's the best of a very weak DT draft class at the top, sure I bet a couple of DT's go round one, but thats because GM's are forced to reach for talent at that position every year, this is a good year to let the talent come to you concerning DT, we can get one just as ready to play in the 3rd round, Barmore and that alphebet kid will be no more then rotating breather subs year one, mark my words.
B) I don't want him because its a weak DT class at the top, that is silly, I want him because I think he'll be a stud.
C) No, you won't find someone in the 3rd round who is just as ready to play. I mean maybe, because he is so young, but he's also a Bama kid, about as pro ready as you can get.
D) If he is nothing more than a rotating breather sub, I really don't care, Kenny didn't play very much as a rookie (only 333 snaps), more and more as the year went on. That happens, it's okay.
E) Anyways, I asked if there are guys you'd be willing to trade up for and how much, not just to be told how wrong I am. Anyone you like?

AND we already have the complaints based off of draftnik rankings, but the draft is 2 days away...
That said Barmore is listed as a top 32 prospect pretty much everywhere...

lis, one excellent game and a bunch of no shows, every year DT's are over drafted, and it's one of the higher bust rate positions, unless Guty is really convinced of a high ceiling, I'd rather wait till later to spend a pick on a gamble, when we took Clark I was like WTF to think we'll strike gold again like that is like rowing up stream on the fox in april
I know, we all fall for a player, something about them attracts us, for me (with limited high lite reel and vids) Jamin Davis did it for me, maybe because we've needed a 4 dn lber for so long, and the passing tree has shortened up some with most offenses so that makes the ILB position more pronounced these days, plus a bunch of hype saying he's a 1st round talent, when actually he's probably a late 30 slotter, I've had to curtail expectations on him, still if Guty could move back from round 1 or up from round two, I'd love to see us draft him.
your guy Barmore though will go around slot 20, and thats a lot to give up for a player I don't think should be drafted there, now if he fell to us at 29, well I'd still hate the pick
