Mac still the favorite at #3, but those lines are narrowing. Most of the chatter is Lance today.

Obviously meaningless, but I wouldn't want pick #3 on such short notice.

On the other hand if a month ago they offered us 12 and 123 this year, 2022 1st, 2023 1st, + additional picks and players.

As much as I love Aaron, I would pull the trigger on that.

Wait until we're on the clock and don't choose a WR at 29. All I've been hearing today is how it's almost a sure thing that we're taking a WR.

I'll believe it when I see it.
we are going to have to take a receiver , maybe even two, our whole receiver room are due new contracts next year, granted we'll likely resign Adams, but depending on money demands over established production we could lose all the rest

I wouldn't be surprised if guty took one at #29 or even moved up a little for one, so many of these slot receivers fit well in MLF schemes, and there are a few edge receivers in later rounds we could groom up to take someones place next year.

To me it HAS to be Lance. If it's Mac Jones, Kyle Shanahan has too much power. This is why you separate evaluation and coaching. Mac Jones just doesn't merit the investment they made. I have never wavered on it being Lance even though I think the odds are that I'm wrong. Mac Jones is like repeating the Mitch Trubisky/Daniel Jones picks all over again. Learn from it.

What's good is that the scheme is QB-friendly. An average guy with good processing skills can make it work. So it may not BUST. But it's just in NO way worth the investment they made to get him.

What's the chatter? All I see are people on the board saying "the chatter is centering on WR" but I'm watching NFL Network and reading ESPN and checking in on various rumor mill sites and I'm not seeing anything more certain than Tony Pauline saying the Packers love Toney.

Yeah it would almost make more sense to offer picks for next season and offer a stud player in return.

It's interesting, right? Like if we did get 3 and Jimmy G QB is set and the pick becomes a major trade-up spot for anyone who really wants Lance or Fields. So we could slide back to 8 or 9, take Surtain or the best WR available. MAAAYYYYBBBEE Micah Parsons but I'd prefer the others... and also a boatload of picks in addition to the 49ers' picks.

It's the type of deal I'd listen to next season. But it's just not the right time yet. I like that it was offered and refused; mitigates the speculation about Rodgers a little. Like, saying no to a top 3 pick plus players and additional picks is a pretty strong endorsement for "he's our guy"

Not gonna lie.

This has to be one of the more "least excited" draft days I have had in a number of years. Sorry to be the downer. I can't control my emotions.

There really isn't a guy I am in love with this year. It started out on Collins but that has cooled off because I know it won't happen. I think I am hoping for Farley tonight.

But I am still trying to make the best of my usual favorite weekend of the year. Doing Carolina pulled pork sandwiches Rodney Scott style tonight.

Menu for tomorrow and Saturday to be seen.

The players who will get me most excited if their name is called. (in order)

1. Greg Newsom
2. Zaven Collins
3. Caleb Farley
4. Christian Baremore
5. Asante Samuel Jr
6. Rashod Batemen.

Player I expected to be a Packer after tonight.

Tevin Jenkins.
I have very little excitement for night one because we pick so late, there will be so many guys I like that will be gone, and then I will have to deal with an overreaction news cycle when we haven't filled all of our needs with one pick (or no picks).

So I feel ya. But I AM excited for the potential wildness of the first round around the league... how many permutations there are; how unlikely it is to be "chalk" in the middle of the round and beyond. That will be fun.

I'm watching the NFL Network coverage and I have been doing mostly draft podcast and the draft sites like ProFootballNetwork and The Draft Network and some Football Outsiders futures columns and stuff because I don't watch a ton of live TV shows.

And based on all the clips where they have said "what we haven't talked enough about is...." makes me really, really glad I haven't been listening to the mainstream NFL news coverage as much. Seems like they have only talked about the top ten and QBs.

"We haven't been talking about Zaven Collins..."
"We haven't had a conversation about the Saints' QB needs"
"We haven't talked a lot about what the Ravens might do..."
"Let's talk about trades you want to see that aren't involving QBs" (one of the answers was still a QB trade)

like... what the heck have you BEEN talking about then? You have a WHOLE network and it's the offseason.

I don't doubt that we will, but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't in round one. Pending on what direction we go if not a WR, maybe we won't hear a collective sigh across the state of Wisconsin.

The downside of picking late in the evening is most of the forum is rat !@#$ drunk and by the time we're up everyone thinks they're Al Davis.

I am going into this draft complete blind. New job has been keeping me very busy. Will enjoy the next few days nonetheless.

Miesfelds (Sheboygan) grand champion brats, MKE Brewing Hazy IPA on tap for this evening.

FWIW, don't want Farley. Having back issues while playing a violent sport like football isn't a good combo. Gimme CB, iDL or WR in first round to start. Beyond that, I'll have faith that Gutey & company know what they're doing.
